An Appointment.

"About the job, I don't really know much about the job description but I know that it will definitely pay well. You remember Betty White, our classmate in high school who now works as an assistant to a top model in the country? I met her by coincidence in a mall yesterday and she briefly mentioned the job. She did not also say much and just said that her boss needed a lady urgently for a particular job and she was going to pay well. They can't go public about the job for some reason. Anyway, that is not the case now, I was able to get the contact address of the person we can talk to. I really hope you can take this job, so I already helped you to book an appointment with them for tomorrow. I will send you the details too" Paige carefully said.

She secretly lowered her eyes and stole a glance at her friend to see what her emotions were like but as usual, Serene's face remained calm and expressionless. There was only a tint of redness on her cheeks that was caused by the alcohol she drank.

For a moment, Serene said nothing, her lashes lowered and covered the helplessness in her eyes. She pinched her glass between her fingers before she finally stretched out her hand and spread open her palm before Paige.

"..." Paidlge stared at the opened palm before her in confusion and she raised her brow, "what?" she questioned softly.

"The contact" Serene gave a quiet curt response.

"Ah!" Paige immediately understood what he lr best friend meant, she rattled her head and hurriedly reached out for her imitation Chanel purse that was beside her. She searched through it and took out a small piece of paper that she gave to Serene.

"Here, the contact of the person that I got. I already spoke to him and booked an appointment for you tomorrow, keep it well. I will also send the address of where you are going to meet them tomorrow to you now" Paige voiced.

Serene took the paper with a word of thanks, she pinched it between her fingers before hiding it away in her pocket. At that money also, her cell phone vibrated. She took it out and glanced at the new message she just got from Paige. It was the address of the place she would meet the person for the job. She read through the message in a single glance and put her cell phone away.

"That is it, you should try to message the person today or call him so that he can recognize you before tomorrow. I just hope you get the job this time" Paige uttered and sighed.

Serene smiled and nodded. "Sure, thanks" she muttered.

Paige rolled her eyes and glared at her friend, "what is there to thank me about? You are my best friend, remember? I am only doing what I should and I haven't even done enough for you. But, what can I do? I am helpless myself and I am only stuck at being a third-rate actress with almost no future. Since my parents disowned me after the abortion I got in high school..." Paige paused and sighed while Serene looked at her and pressed her lips together.

A hint of bitterness flashed through Paige's eyes but it disappeared as quickly as it came. A mocking smile spread on her face.

"You know, I was young and stupid then but, to keep up with their impeccable history, and help promote my father's political ambitions, my parents threw me out of the house over a single mistake. Who would have expected that a Minister's daughter is struggling with being an actress in the entertainment industry" She sighed and then looked up only to meet Serene's sympathetic gaze. Then, she realized what she had done.

"Gosh! Look at me, spewing rubbish before you when you have your life to face. Don't mind me, I was just talking rubbish, none of this is true. I am just a poor girl like you" She hurriedly said and forced a laugh.

Serene arched and brow and shook her head, she pushed her glass aside and turned to her friend.

"There is no need to hide, Paige, I have always known about you... This is not the first time you are saying this" she said and Paige gasped almost falling off her seat.

"You... you know?!" She voiced and Serene nodded. Paige did not want to believe but Serene had never lied to her. She thought she had hidden it well since they were in high school. At the time when she first met Serene, she had just transferred to the school in her senior year after her incident with her parent happened. They had sent her far away from home to a tiny school in the city after they disowned her. To avoid embarrassment, she never mentioned herself or her family to anyone. She would not even make the mistake of mentioning that her family was influential!

"How..." She murmured.

Serene looked at her calmly and opened her mouth, "the time we were bullied in a school gathering, you were so pained that you drank a lot, when we got back to the dormitory, you wanted about this for a whole night" She simply explained.

The memories from that night were still fresh in her head, Paige had cried very much that day until she no longer could console her. She said a lot about her family, her brothers, and how much she missed them. She even should her some pictures in her diary. But, since she knew that this was a scar that Paige never wanted to talk about, she also acted like she did not know a thing until now.

"You... forget it, it is nothing now... am I not living well? I have forgotten all about them and it is in the past. I don't need any family now that I have you. We've got each other's back, right?" Paige asked.

Serene did not dispute Paige words, she merely nodded and answered, "Yes".

"It is getting late, it would be hard to get a cab to your district if you stay any longer, you should get going, a friend will pick me up later" Paige uttered.

Serene looked at the time on her phone and nodded before standing up.

"Call me when you return from the meeting tomorrow, okay?"

"Yeah"

The girls hugged lightly before Serene left the Club, she flagged down a cab and returned home.
