Book 1: The Lost Luna - Ch. 6 Performing For The Alpha

Adriana's Point of View

I went out onto the stage and was greeted with applause from the dark. It was funny how it seemed so dark where the audience was sitting that I couldn't see them. When I sat in the audience, you could see your table and food without a problem. As for the applause, it was nice that I was making a name for myself as a singer and even a songwriter. Life was pretty good at the moment. I just needed to control my mind and focus on life right now.

My usual routine was to play for 30-minute blocks and then have a short break before starting another block. I mixed the music selection with covers of quiet background music with some more popular songs. Every now and then, I would add in some original songs I composed during my free time. It was a good routine, and I earned quite a few tips.

Tips were the lifeblood of entertainers. I was a very accomplished musician, if I did say so myself, and I had managed to save quite a bit of my earnings. I figured if it turned out that I didn't want my mate, I could always take my savings and go somewhere else. It might be tricky because wolves usually want their mate, but to give up my independence? I'm not sure.

I was almost at the end of my second 30-minute block when I smelt the most incredible smell. It was like chocolate mixed with the scent of forests. It was so strong that I could almost taste it and wanted to.

"Our mate is close by, " said Calliope.

"What? I can't concentrate on that right now!" I answered.

At least I was no longer talking out loud to my wolf. It took a few weeks to learn how to speak to her in my head without saying anything. It also explains why she was off tonight.

"You better not miss him," she warned.

"Trying to concentrate… Damn! What if we don't like him?" I asked.

"How could we not? He's our mate, and he'll be perfect," she softly growled, almost like a purr.

I managed to push Calliope to the side and ignored her while finishing my set. It wasn't easy as she was so excited about meeting the man we would potentially spend the rest of our lives with.

After finishing my set, I said to her, "I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I'm not sure I am ready to meet our supposed soulmate just yet. At least tonight, I need to focus on the rest of my perfomance."

Despite this, she was still sitting there in the back of my mind, wagging her tail.

Once the applause had died down and the overpowered stage lights were dimmed, it was time to look around. I sniffed the air, and the scent was overpowering. I could determine where the smell was coming from, so I looked over toward the group of diners in that area. There was our Alpha, Beta and Gamma with three other females. All of them were stunningly attractive, and all the bland humans couldn't take their eyes off of them.

Daemon Corbeau, our Alpha, was a supernatural being that stood out from the rest. He was tall, with broad shoulders, and a tanned complexion. His black hair was immaculately combed, and he looked like a Greek God, fit for Selene, our Moon Goddess. Even normal werewolves had difficulty resisting his looks, let alone humans. I must admit, I had trouble keeping my eyes off him.

As there were no other werewolves present in the vicinity, only humans, I realised that my mate could either be one of those werewolves or a human. At that precise moment, my gaze fell upon the Alpha who sniffed the air and then glared at me. Our eyes met and it was apparent that he was not pleased.

Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! You had to be kidding me? The Alpha? My mate was the Alpha of our pack? My mind raced with questions and confusion, trying to make sense of the situation. I felt a mix of emotions - surprise, excitement, and a hint of fear - as I realised the weight of what this meant for us. This news would change everything.

"I can't believe it!" I told Calliope.

"Our mate is the Alpha," purred Calliope.

"As he should be. I was not meant to be a lowly Omega."

"You do realise that he thinks I am an Omega?" I reminded her. "Also, we are technically violating his laws by living outside the pack."

"You are destined for greater things, remember," she answered.

Sure I was. Great, my werewolf was completely delusional, and now the Alpha is my mate. I didn't know what to do. It was a lot to handle, but I knew I had to stay strong and keep my wits about me.

"He won't like it, so prepare to be rejected," I warned. "This is not going to go well."

I quickly got up and made my way to the backstage area. I didn't want to face rejection in front of the entire audience. Despite being an Omega, the lowest ranking member of society, I still had some sense of self-respect and dignity that I didn't want to compromise. Hurrying backstage seemed like the safest option, as it would allow me to avoid any unwanted attention and maintain my composure.

I made my way to my dressing room, a small but cozy space that had become my sanctuary over the last few months, determined to spend the break composing myself. As soon as I closed the door, I heaved a sigh of relief.

As I sat down on the plush chair, I gazed at my reflection in the mirror. As I sat there, lost in my thoughts, a sudden idea struck me. I could always tell James I wasn't feeling well, and needed to go home. It was a clever plan, and it would take me away from Alpha Daemon for tonight at least. I could deal with it tomorrow afetr a good sleep. Yeah! That's what I'll do.

"Why are you running away from our mate?" demanded Calliope.

"Alphas do not mate with Omegas! He thinks we are an Omega, remember?" I snapped at her out loud as I still didn't have the whole inner voice thing happening. "I am not ready to face him or be rejected just yet. I need time to prepare myself."

Calliope was silent. I opened the door to go and talk to James, to find that the doorway was filled with an angry-looking Alpha. Fuck!

"Who are you talking to, and why are you blocking my mind-link?" he demanded.
