Maya's POV

Before I could rethink my decision of standing there rather than hurrying to hide, Chase stormed into the living room, his imposing height shrunk down the room.

Voices sounded behind him but I could not decipher anything beyond his dangerously darkened whiskey eyes. They scanned me from head to toe then met my eyes with ardent fury.

“Are you hurt?”

I arched a brow. “Do I look hurt?”

He didn’t get to talk to me the way he had last night then barge in here like a caveman acting all concerned.

“I felt your terror through our bond but I couldn’t reach to you—I still can’t. Why did you block me out of your mind?”

I shook my head in disbelief and replied tersely, “If you want to pretend like you don't know, I'm sure as hell not going to humour you by answering that question.”

I was close to yelling but refrained as we weren’t alone in the room.

Five pairs of curious eyes stared at us without a word, Ron— who came with Chase— was the first to break the silence.
