Doctor King’s next entry to Jayden’s office was not empty this time. He followed behind Anita, carrying a file with him, and Jayden ordered that they should not be disturbed as Anita walked out.
His grey eyes regarded Doctor King as the latter pushed the file across and observed that Jayden had changed the swivel chair to a bigger and more comfortable leather brown seat. He smiled at the lad, admiring his taste.Jayden, however, was not looking at Doctor King, but through the file. There were a bunch of forms, each of them carrying information about the women who had applied for the surrogacy with profiles of them stapled to the top left corner. A smile lit Jayden’s face, one of his broadest smiles in years.“You have seen a woman you like?” Doctor King asked, noticing the smile.“No,” Jayden answered, his smile vanishing like magic. “I only like how well I can predict humans. Look at all of them, ready to carry a baby they will never see again for money. A she-wolf would never do this. It physically hurts them to stay away from their cubs for more than a day.”“Oh.” Doctor King replied, his disappointment written all over his face.Jayden picked out one form in particular and leafed through it before keeping it away. He took another one, flipped through the pages, and tossed it where he kept the former. And then he took a third one, flipping the pages carefully, his eyes going through every word.Doctor King stood up and went to the window, and marvelled at the view of Palm Springs City from here before turning to look at Jayden, who was concentrating on what he was reading.“This young Beta seems to have the world in his palms. He is so in control.” The doctor thought, and then looked back at the view, his eyes concentrating on the rocks where the wolves held their pack meetings.“I was there the other night. I am sure you heard me howl.” Jayden said, almost causing the doctor to jump and morph.“Oh.” The doctor replied, his answer more out of relief for himself as he turned to look at Jayden, but Jayden was still looking at the form in his hands, and then it dawned on him.“Are you reading my mind, Jayden?”“I don’t usually do it. Being in other wolves’ minds is no pleasure for me, as their thoughts disgust me. But you are not as strong-willed as I am and I want to know if you specifically have one of these human women at heart.” Jayden replied, his eyes still on the form. And he then spun around in his swivel chair, his eyes concentrating on the doctor, the form in his left hand as his right index finger touched his lips.“This is the woman I want. Inform her that I have chosen her.” Jayden said, his hand with the form outstretched. The doctor, heavily intimidated by Jayden, subconsciously came and took the form from his hands.“Her name is Elizabeth Woodville. I like her qualities, and I want her to have my baby. I will contact her myself at a later time and speak to her in person.”“Consider it done, boy.” The doctor replied, smiling. He then shook Jayden, took the rest of the forms in the file, and walked out of the office as Jayden put a call to Anita, giving her more instructions. The door closed, and Jayden leaned back in his chair to relax and think. He shut his eyes and then took in a deep breath, crossing his legs and then placing his hands on the table, his fingers drumming a beat he liked. And then his sharp wolf hearing picked up the sound of a paper rustling somewhere. His eyes jerked open, looking for the source of the sound, and then he saw it. Something that looked like one of Doctor King’s forms on the floor. The old man must have had it blown away.Jayden went to it and picked up the form, and then he saw the profile. Her blue eyes almost immediately jumped out at him, and his heart raced.Avana.Avana had the same blue eyes, eyes that seemed to carry the peacefulness of the ocean and the beauty of the sky. Her hair too, the blondeness. And the same white skin that reminded him of Avana’s pure white fur.“Oh fuck.” He groaned, rushing to his table, his hands frantically searching for his phone. He finally picked it up and rang Doctor King, who picked up the call after what seemed like forever.“Hello, Jayden. I was just about to call the girl you chose for—”“Fuck her, Doctor. Drive back to my office. You left a form here.” Jayden cut in.“Well, I could always pick that form another time Jay—”“No. This form has the woman I want. I want her.”Doctor King was back in minutes, and as he walked in he found Jayden leaning on the edge of the table, a form in his hand and his eyes expectant. And for the first time, Jayden was smiling at him. Not the usual Jayden Wells smile that barely ever touched the corners of his lips, but a broad grin.“I left a form?” The doctor asked as Anita closed the door, herself surprised by Jayden’s sudden change.“Here.” Jayden handed over the form. The smile had completely evaporated.“Oh holy Moon Goddess!” Doctor King exclaimed. “She looks a lot like Avana.”“She is the one I want.”“I will put a call to her immediately. Thank you.”Jayden shook the doctor and grinned again, and the doctor felt a kind of pity for him, seeing how a lookalike of his mate had filled him with a kind of hope, hope enough to make him smile.“I’ll be leaving.” The doctor said, the form in his hand. He looked at the name written on it.“Alisa Grant.” He whispered to himself.“Yes, King. Her name is Alisa Grant.” Jayden said, his grey eyes brooding, concentrating on something Doctor King could not see. And then Jayden whispered.“Alisa.”When Stacy had suggested the idea of being a surrogate, or a baby’s mother to Alisa, she had expected Alisa to reject it.And that had almost happened. But Alisa seemed to think it was her only hope. Carry a baby and make a family, or an individual happy while making enough money to save her brother through it— At least thinking of it that way made it feel honourable and good enough for Alisa to want to do.They got a form from Doctor Felix King, and Alisa applied. Part of her was pessimistic about it because for all she knew there were several other women with more desirable qualities going for the same thing. It was a legal thing in Palm Springs City, and it got women rich overnight, but elder members of the society frowned upon it and respectable people refused to partake in it, deeming it a thing for harlots.Alisa did it anyway. Her brother’s life was her stake. She had tried her best to remain calm during the period she spent waiting for a reply, in case she was chosen, and when
She felt sad to leave the woman and scared to be alone. Her joke had brought a kind of rapport between them, but she had to get this over and done with. She went inside and saw a room that looked so endless it was the size of her entire house. A polished wooden table sat in the middle, large cream-coloured sofas were around them, each with smaller tables beside them, and in one of those sofas sat a man. He was so damn gorgeous. He had a white dress shirt on, the first three buttons were undone, and a gold chain peeked out right above his chest. His sleeves were rolled up, a gold watch hanging on his hands, and part of his hair fell across his face. His eyes, grey, dark and cold, were fixed on hers. He didn’t even look like a businessman, not to talk of owning one of the biggest construction companies around. “Miss Alisa Grant?” he smiled, so thinly she could barely even call it a smile. “I have been waiting for you. Make yourself comfortable. I am Jayden Wells.” Jayden motioned he
Elliott Hansen. The same Elliott that had spoken to her at the parking lot in the afternoon. The one that was in love with her. He had pulled her to him and held her tightly to himself, and it made her feel very uncomfortable. “What the hell—” Alisa started. “I want to say the same too, but you should be thanking me for saving your life, Alisa.” “Saved me?” “You were about to drown.” “The girl is a fine swimmer, Elliott. You just wasted your time.” The duo turned in surprise and saw Jayden watching them, one of his slight smiles adorning his face, his arms folded across his chest, and the woman who had brought Alisa to the pool standing behind him. Alisa suddenly remembered that Elliott had her in his arms, which could seem compromising to anyone watching, and she pushed herself from him. Elliott let her go, but more because his attention was on Jayden. “She looked like she was going to drown.” He defended himself. “Well she isn’t drowning now, is she?” Jayden asked, lookin
He could see a flash of white fur in the woods. Running through the grass in the light of the full moon. He knew it was his mate, and so he followed as fast as he could. His paws hit the ground aggressively as he followed, his heart beating hard in his chest. At first, he could find her no more, but then he saw her standing on top of the rocks where the wolves' meetings were held while he stood on the ground opposite the spring-fed pond. His Luna. Her fur was pure white, as white as snow, and her grey eyes glowed like polished rock. The wind blew through her fur as she stared at him and wagged her tail, and he wagged his too. She howled, the sound echoing and sounding like music to his ears. He howled in harmony with her, and then she looked at him again. But this time, her tail was wrapped in between her legs. He howled, calling out to her, but she turned and jumped headlong into the spring-fed pond. Jayden clambered up the stones and looked down, howling for his mate, but he f
“Hello?” “Oh, God. Alisa. Where the hell were you? I’ve been trying to call you since.” “I’m sorry, Stacy. I kind of—” Alisa stopped. “What?” “I’m on the verge of signing the contract.” “Oh my God, Alisa. You didn’t even tell me that you had gotten it.” “I’m sorry, but it all happened so fast. I was called and offered a ride from the college’s park and then—” Alisa stopped, thinking of what to say. “Then what?” Stacy asked. Alisa could detect excitement in her voice. “A lot happened, but I’m almost through. We have agreed on terms.” “How much will you get paid?” Stacy asked. It was as though she was getting more excited with each passing second. “I asked him for $500,000.” “You are joking, right?” Stacy asked, her excitement level going down by half. “There will be nothing left if we do John’s damn transplant.” “I will come to see you and we will talk about it, okay?” Alisa promised. “Get your ass to the hospital first. Johnny’s condition went a bit high yesterday, but he’
“How will the artificial insemination happen if I am a virgin?” “Are you a virgin?” The doctor asked. There was a kind of caution in his voice that scared her. But whether she lied or not, he was bound to find out anyway. She decided to come clean. “Yes, I am one, Doctor King.” “Then all of this is a really bad idea for you, Miss Grant. First, we are not sure if you can carry a baby successfully if you have never had one. And as a virgin, I will have to break through your hymen if I have to inseminate you.” Alisa went blank. Between her, and her brother’s kidney transplant and $500,000 stood her virginity. “So right now, if I choose natural insemination, I will have to have sex with Mr Wells, and if I choose artificial insemination, you will break through my hymen?” she asked. “Yes, Miss Grant. That’s right.” “I am sorry I can’t go through with this, Sir. I quit.” “You what?” The doctor asked, his tone a tad higher. “I said I quit.” “It is done, then. We will find somebody e
Alisa gasped. “Every breath that Johnny takes is numbered and being counted down, Alisa. He’s dying and holding on to life with that dialysis. Last night, I was scared because I didn’t want you to come and meet a dead brother. I did everything you would have done, Alisa. I held his hand and kissed him and begged him to hold on.” “Oh, my God.” “All I need you to do now is to take his life into your hands, and go into Doctor King’s office and tell him you want the contract. Five hundred thousand dollars will be yours after it.” Alisa’s hand covered her mouth. If Stacy was right, then virginity was nothing. She couldn’t afford to lose Johnny. Her heart skipped several beats as she took off, nearly bumping into several sick patients until at last, she was right in front of the doctor’s office. Without thinking, she pushed the door open and the startled doctor’s eyes almost bulged out. “All he wants is a mother for his baby, isn’t it? I’ll do it.” Alisa spilled quickly. Her mind had
“He asked you to meet him at dinner or he asked you on a date?” “He asked me to come with him for dinner.” “Open your eyes, Alisa darling. Jayden Wells likes you. He could have just discussed everything with you there in King’s office, not invited you to dinner.” “But,” Alisa started. “He’s not like Elliott. He does not try to get my attention like Elliott does, or go out of his way to do things for me like Elliott.” “Observe him at the restaurant. I swear he likes you. In fact, go home and get ready. I will take care of Johnny for you.” Stacy offered. “I want to see him before I go.” They both went back to the ward, where Johnny lay sound asleep. Alisa kissed his forehead, and his eyes instantly came open. “I will be back, Johnny. Please stay strong for me. I will solve this problem for us.” “I know you will, Alisa,” Johnny answered, managing a smile. His words tore at her heart. They carried so much confidence in her. Alisa went back home and picked out her favourite dress,
