Chapter9- Proposal

“Miss Mondragon, your son was being diagnosed with Acute lymphocytic (lymphoblastic) leukemia (ALL).”

The news broke Felicity's heart. Knowing that his son has leukemia made her feel that she was a useless mother. 'Why does my son need to experience that kind of illness? What have I done wrong? Is it because I worked at the club as a stripper? But why does it need to be my son to pay for all the sins she committed?' Tears kept flowing down her cheeks as she was walking on the road without realizing that she was already in the middle of the street.

Felicity came back to her senses when she heard a loud honk of an approaching truck, which made her eyes widen in horror. It felt like her body froze, and she couldn't move her feet as the truck approached her direction. Felicity winced when she thought that the truck would hit her. But a muscular arm pulled her and they rolled to the side of the road.

She stared at the guy on top of her before she passed out. “Felicity… Felicity!” Jeremy tapped her face lightly like he was trying to wake her up. “Felicity, wake up!”

Jeremy stood up and carried Felicity in his arms, and he walked toward his car. Jeremy looked at the unconscious young lady, who was sitting in the back passenger seat, thru his rearview mirror. He remembered when he was on his way back home when Jeremy saw her wandering on the street. He called her name, but she did not hear him.

Jeremy frowned, and he slowed down his car. He noticed that Felicity had spaced out, and it stupefied him when the young lady suddenly crossed the road without thinking that the lights were still red. He immediately ran towards her to save Felicity from danger.

‘She seems problematic.’ he thought when he noticed the dark circles forming under her eyes. ‘What could it be?’ he wondered.

They arrived at the hospital, and Jeremy carried her in his arms until they reached the emergency room. The doctor on duty approached them. “Miss Mondragon?” Jeremy frowned and wondered why the doctor knew her.

“Do you know her?” He asked, which had him nod.

“Yes, she is the mother of one of our patients who was just admitted here. The news she heard from his son’s doctor may exhaust her.” She shook her head pityingly.

“Why? What happened? Is her son sick?” Jeremy asked. ‘No wonder she was not on her right mind earlier,’ he thought. The doctor nodded. But she said that it was better to ask Felicity. Because she couldn’t disclose the patient’s confidentiality.

They brought Felicity to a private room, and Jeremy sat on the chair beside her bed while waiting for her to wake up. Jeremy called his secretary to bring the documents he left in his office and investigate what had happened to Apollo, Felicity’s son. Not long enough, he received the news. Apollo was indeed in the hospital where Felicity was being admitted. Jeremy found out that Apollo was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic (lymphoblastic) leukemia (ALL).

Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow — the spongy tissue inside bones where blood cells were made. It is the most common type of cancer in children, and treatments result in a good chance of a cure. (a reference to this meaning was written below)

Luckily, in Apollo’s case, the cancer was in the first stage. And he doesn’t need to undergo a bone marrow transplant as soon as he gets his treatment right away. Jeremy pitied Felicity. He brushed his hair away from her face, which made her move. Felicity opened her eyes gradually, only to see his worried look.

“Mister?” Felicity asked, confused. She looked around and noticed the white walls, the dextrose attached to her hand, while she was lying on the hospital bed. “What am I doing here? Why are you here?” She asked while trying to recall what had happened earlier. Jeremy helped her to sit on the bed.

She remembered, that the truck almost hit her and that she could have died if not for the man who saved her.

“I brought you here,” Jeremy informed her. Felicity’s brows furrowed in confusion.

“What?”

“Are you out of your mind? How did you not notice that the traffic light was in the color red, and a truck was approaching? Do you really want to end your life? Are you going to abandon your child? Don’t you value your life anymore?” Jeremy was in a rage, but Felicity looked at him, speechless. She was dumbfounded that she couldn’t understand what he was saying.

“What? Why do I think of ending my life when my son needs me? And why are you mad? Who are you to meddle in my life?” Jeremy scoffed.

He couldn’t believe that after he saved her… This is what he reaps. “Shouldn’t you be thankful that I saved you? But here you are, ranting, without asking me what happened.” Felicity suddenly felt ashamed.

Felicity lowered her head when she realized that she was wrong. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have to get mad at you… And thank you for saving me.” she sincerely said. Jeremy accepted her sincere apology.

He understood that the young lady was having a hard time. “It’s alright. I’m sorry if I am being a busybody. But if you need help… I will gladly help you.” Jeremy informed her.

“Actually, mister… Regarding that matter, I desperately need your help. I will accept any consequence it may bring. Anything that you want to ask… I can be your slave, personal assistant, or anything you want me to do. Just please help me this time.

Jeremy sighed. “Alright, I will help you find the best solution to cure your son’s illness.” Felicity’s eyes twinkled as she found hope in Jeremy.

“Thank you,” she muttered.

“But I have a proposal to make,” Jeremy stated.

“I will do whatever you want me to do.”

“Be my girlfriend,” he announced.

Felicity froze as she couldn’t say anything. ‘Girlfriend? Why?’ she wondered. But like what she always has in mind… nothing in this world is free. And Felicity doesn’t want to owe anyone. But to help her son get the best treatment, she would do everything. Even if she will sell her life.

“Alright, I will accept your proposal.”
