I looked around at his home as Emily gave me a tour, and I could see they didn’t have much. But judging by the joy on her face, they didn’t need it. They appreciated what they had instead of what they could have.

This made me think of how ungrateful I had been my entire life. She was only five years old, and she didn’t need more than her father’s love and care.

“So last, but not least. My bedroom. I have so many teddy bears and I love them. Let me show them to you!” she said, grabbing me by the hand and pulling me inside a small space with a big bed full of the stuffed animals.

“Here is Suzy, Gaby, Leon, Herbert and here we have Lilly, Julie, Peter and Little Kit Kat.” She introduced them while pointing at each one.
