Chapter 133

Author: Cozy Season
The gates of the Frazier family estate burst open, and a group of black-clad bodyguards stormed in.

Ralph and Rosalie, who had just arrived home, recoiled in fear.

"What's going on?" Rosalie trembled, hiding behind Ralph.

"Where are the security guards? Get them!" Ralph tried to remain composed, but he saw the security team being escorted in by the intruders.

His face turned pale with shock.

"Who are you people? What do you want?" he demanded.

Marion walked in through the gates. Ralph nervously swallowed, "Marion?"

Marion strolled in casually and took a seat.

"What are you up to?" Ralph asked, his voice strained. "We have never offended you."

Marion nodded, smiling. "Mr. Frazier, you haven't offended me."

"Then why invade my home like this?" Ralph's voice rose in frustration.

"You haven't offended me, but your son has," Marion replied.

"Stanley? How has he offended you?" Ralph looked bewildered.

Marion gestured, and someone brought over a laptop. On it played footage from

Rosalie could only hold Stanley and sob.Marion looked on indifferently. With so many people still there, Ralph turned to Marion and said, "Mr. Huston, I understand your intentions, but this is a family matter. Could you..."Marion stood up. He hadn't intended to trouble Debra's family, only to ensure Ralph found out the truth."Well then, I'll leave it to you to handle," Marion said casually. "But if you can't do it, I wouldn't mind taking matters into my own hands."Ralph's face turned pale as he understood what Marion meant."I understand. I will make things right for Debra," Ralph promised.Marion gestured, and his bodyguards dispersed."Let's go!" "Yes, sir!"They quickly left the villa.Stanley stood up defiantly, pointing at the now-vanished figures. "Who were those people? Why would we believe anything they say, Dad?""Shut up!" Ralph slapped him again, leaving him incredulous.Rosalie quickly stepped in. "Ralph, why are you hitting him after everyone has left?"

"Debra, this is all Stanley's fault. I'll take him to the police station and let the police handle it," Ralph said.Stanley was exasperated. "Dad! How could you send me to the police station?" "You reap what you sow. This is already lenient for you."If Marion handled this privately, Stanley would have been dead."Uncle Ralph, you don't have to do that," Debra said calmly. "He's unreliable because Aunt Rosalie spoils him too much." Ralph nodded. "Exactly! He's lawless now.""Yesterday, Stanley came to talk to me about the distribution of Frazier family property. I merely said a few words, and he wanted to kill me. That's a serious lack of upbringing." "What property distribution?" Ralph was bewildered.Stanley's face flushed red. "Shut up!" "You shut up!" Ralph snapped out of it and kicked him. "You brat, I'm not dead yet, and you're eyeing the family fortune?""I didn't!" Stanley's bravado weakened. He would not admit to it whatsoever.Debra said nonchalantly, "It'

Erica came in after Ralph left. She had just been listening at the door. Though family feuds were deep, she hadn't heard of family members trying to kill each other before."Marion has always been decisive," Erica pondered, "but this time, he seems hesitant. Back then, he wouldn't have bothered with evidence. He'd have thrown them in a black box, and by the next day, his cousin would be half-dead. Handing him over to the police like this seems too easy for him.""A black box?" Debra looked puzzled."I think it's some term in their line of work." Erica shook her head. "Randy didn't elaborate."Debra fell silent.Someone like Marion, always walking on the edge, must have his own methods.Otherwise, how could he inspire fear?"He probably didn't want to put you in a difficult position." Erica said, "After all, Erbo has been treating you well."Then she added with some frustration, "Marion knew you were in trouble, yet he didn't come right away. Doesn't he understand girls' feeling

Randy nudged Erica, signaling her to stop talking. But Debra spoke up, "Yeah, I don't like staying here."In her past life, she had died on the operating table, giving her a deep fear of hospitals."Okay."Marion got up to leave the ward.In no time, the discharge procedures were completed. Randy went downstairs to get the car. After changing her clothes and leaving the ward, she glanced at the room next door, where Juan was. Eventually, she left with Erica.Outside, Debra saw Joe's car, with Shelia's face reflected in the rear window. In the evening, Juan woke up to see a blurry figure bustling around him."Debra?" His voice was low.Shelia paused and turned around with a smile."Juan, you're finally awake." Shelia set down the water and said, "I came right after class to see you. How are you feeling? I'll go call the doctor."Juan was disappointed as he found it was Shelia. With a hoarse voice, he asked, "Where's Debra?"Shelia's smile froze momentarily, but she soon re

"Give me the car keys!" Juan demanded.Joe froze, then reluctantly handed over the keys.Juan grabbed them and left the hospital. His face was pale as he hurried away. Joe followed closely behind, watching as Juan got into his car and sped off."Sir!" Joe called out from behind. But Juan didn't stop the car. Soon, it disappeared.Debra rested in bed at her apartment. Randy bustled in the kitchen with Erica assisting. Marion just sat on the sofa, quietly reading a newspaper. It was a heartwarming scene that Debra cherished. After her parents' untimely deaths, she had been living with Ralph's family. Everyone was guarded, and she hadn't felt this kind of familial warmth in a long time. How she wished it could last forever!Juan arrived outside the apartment building and called her.But no one was answering. He gripped the phone so tightly that his knuckles turned white. He got out of the car and headed towards the security office."Sir, who are you looking for?" asked the gua

"Marion, you..."Before Juan could finish, Marion interrupted, "Debra seems to have woken up. You're advised to take care of Shelia. That's it."With that, he hung up.Juan's face darkened, his hand gripping the phone turning white."Mr. Nichols," the security guard said, "why don't you come another day?"Juan shot a cold glance at him, and he shut his mouth.Debra woke up in bed. Rubbing her eyes, she groggily asked, "Was there a phone call just now?"Marion picked up the newspaper again, calmly saying, "No, you were dreaming."Debra was puzzled. She distinctly heard the phone ring while she was asleep.'Is it all a dream?'Rubbing her temples, Debra reached for her phone on the bedside table, noticing a missed call from Juan.Frowning, Debra wondered, 'Juan is awake?'Just then, Erica came out of the kitchen and called out, "Debra, wake up and have breakfast!""Alright." Debra set her phone aside. The next day, she received a drafted divorce agreement from her lawyer.

"Do you think I won't divorce because of our cooperation with the Frazier family?" Juan approached step by step.Debra looked up at him and countered, "Isn't that the reason?""Of course not!" His eyes were bloodshot as he pressed his hands on Debra's shoulders. "Listen, I will never agree to a divorce. You're not leaving the Nichols family.""Let go!" Debra pushed him away. "Don't tell me you won't divorce because you love me.""I..."She cut him off. "I don't think I have such charm to make you favor me. You embarrassed me in front of others for Shelia repeatedly, causing trouble for my friends. I've had enough of this marriage. Whether you like it or not, I'm divorcing you.""Where do you get the nerve to say that?" Juan snapped. "Haven't you been hanging out with Marion? Aren't you two close? Did you care about my feelings?""Me and Marion?" Debra laughed as if she had heard a joke. "So, that's what you think of me.""Aren't you divorcing me because you're involved with Mar

"You...""From now on, I don't want to hear you mention divorce again. As long as I forbid it, you will always be my wife.""On what grounds?""Just because I'm Juan, and I rule Seamar City. If I disagree, you won't get a divorce.""You!"Juan threw the divorce agreement into the trash and stormed upstairs.Debra angrily watched his retreating figure. She couldn't figure out why he was against divorce so vehemently. In her past life, she had cried and begged Juan not to divorce her. He hadn't even looked at her. But now, when she initiated the divorce and tore into him, he was reluctant. She glanced at the divorce agreement in the trash.Juan was right about one thing. In Seamar City, his word was law.If Juan didn't agree to the divorce, she couldn't get it.It seemed she needed to up the stakes. The next day, Debra went to register her business, taking over several of the Frazier family's loss-making companies.Arriving at the company's entrance, she saw the lazy recept

Ivan had no idea what was going on. Presumably, Debra should be on the third floor, but now the attic had suddenly caught fire.On the second floor, Erica and Randy stepped out to see Barton help Andrew back to his room."Mr. Andrew Potter?"Garland and Liza were shocked too. They'd never seen him in such distress."Minor fire. Mr. Andrew Potter needs rest," Barton said flatly. "Please keep quiet about this, especially from Mrs. Houston."Liza frowned. "Why?""No questions. Trust that it's for her sake," Barton replied. After they left, Liza muttered, "Weirdoes!"...Debra jolted awake the next morning, shooting upright before dizziness slammed her back down. Drake watched silently from a chair."Quick. I need to go upstairs." She tried to kick off the blankets, but Drake stopped her."Let me go." Her usual calm shattered into a raw panic. "I'm going to the third floor."Drake hesitated. For once, he felt guilty. But he couldn't cave.Clenching his fists, he lied, "You've

Drake carried Debra downstairs on his back.A warm teardrop hit his shoulder. He frowned, glancing sideways at her unconscious face. Even when she passed out, her brows stayed furrowed. Tears kept soaking into his shirt."What a fool," he muttered.Andrew slumped against the wall. The tiny attic room glowed with remnants of Debra's childhood. This had been her sanctuary years ago.Back then, when her parents were busy with business, they'd leave her at the Potter Mansion for weeks. Young Debra's first word wasn't Mama or Papa. It was Brother. She'd trailed him everywhere like a shadow. The mansion's vast emptiness scared her at night. She'd cry until he moved her bed near the attic's stained-glass window. His mother had joked that he would have a good husband someday, just like his dad.Debra's laughter had thawed the mansion's cold halls. She'd painted his gray world in color.Andrew looked at those familiar items and struggled to his feet. His chest burned like coals as he fl

The room was a cozy paradise. A small plush bed sat in the center, topped with a giant teddy bear. Two fairy tale books lay on a nearby desk. The floor had a fluffy pink rug, a tiny wooden rocking horse, and half-built toy blocks scattered around. Miniature castles, dolls, and delicate tea sets filled the space.Every detail hit Debra's nerves like a hammer. Something buzzed in her memory, just out of reach. Her head throbbed as the room spun around her. She forced herself forward, step by shaky step. Then she spotted a pile of yellowed newspapers crammed in a corner. She tried to go over, but each movement flooded her mind with fragmented images."Almost there," she muttered.A memory fragment flickered. Someone was reading fairy tales by her bed.She heard her younger self ask, "Brother, why do princes and princesses fall in love at first sight?" "Because they're meant to be," he replied softly."But can't the princess love someone else?" "She might have many knights, bu

Marion drove through the night, streetlights flickering across his face.A weathered old newspaper lay crumpled in the passenger seat, its yellow pages detailing every grim detail of that decade-old kidnapping case, but not a trace of warmth touched his expression. When he reached the coast, he killed the engine. Clutching the newspaper, he strode to the water's edge. A lighter flashed in his hand. Flames crawled across the brittle paper, casting dancing shadows on his tense jawline. He watched until the last ember died, then scattered the ashes across the sand....Debra had drifted into an uneasy sleep. Her dreams swirled with half-remembered fragments—a ship's deck, choking smoke, a cramped dark space.Saltwater stung her nostrils as waves pressed down on her face. She thrashed against the suffocation until she was exhausted and helplessly sank into the water. Suddenly, a child's scream pierced the darkness. "Brother, save me."Debra jolted awake. The fading image of a face

"I didn't mean it.""Just heed my advice. Marion's sweet-talk game is stronger than you think. The news must have covered both kidnapping cases. Figure out why those three are hiding it from you."Drake went back to his room, leaving Debra outside. Her mind was a mess. She couldn't understand why even Marion chose not to tell her the truth.Footsteps creaked upstairs. Debra looked up to see Ivan descending. Her eyes narrowed. "I told you not to clean the second floor and above. What were you doing up there?"Ivan stammered, "I'm sorry. Someone mentioned the attic hadn't been cleaned in years. I wanted to help." "Attic?""The one on the third floor. It's locked, so I came down."Debra's pulse quickened as she realized the mastermind was feeding her clues through Ivan. She played dumb. "Alright. Remember, don't come up here again without my permission.""Yes, Mrs. Houston." Ivan retreated.Debra stared at the staircase for a while and turned to look at Andrew's room. It was

"I..." Erica was lost for words.Debra came upstairs, suspicion flickering. "Are you hiding something from me?"Erica shrank back, and Randy jumped in. "How is that possible? I was just helping her pick an outfit. Right, Erica?"Erica forced a nod. "Y-Yeah." Marion also came up. Randy seized the lifeline. "Marion, take Debra back. I need to help Erica change."He dragged Erica away like the floor was lava.Debra's suspicion grew. Marion gently brushed her hair. "I'll find the newspapers. It's been a long day. You need to rest.""What if they're gone?" she muttered. It was a major event. She had no memory of it, and her parents had never mentioned it. It didn't make sense."Do you think Vickie's kidnapping is connected to what happened to the Potters?" she said, recalling what Erica had once told her.It was Jordan who had been kidnapped. The incident killed their parents and crippled Andrew. The thought of it always made her chest tighten. When Vickie had mentioned it, her

Erica rolled her eyes. "We've been over this. Everyone knows Vickie's a fraud, but Juan's backing her is real. In this circle, folks cozy up to powerful families to climb the social ladder. They just play dumb and prop up Vickie to get close to Juan."Liza blinked, clueless. "Why don't they just work with Debra instead?"Debra laughed bitterly, "The business owners surviving in Seamar City aren't fools. The McKinney Group and the Nichols Group are at war. From this drama, they can tell Juan is targeting me. He is untouchable here. When he wants someone to be gone, they're gone. And with Caleb's sudden death, Andrew's illness, Jordan's betrayal, and Drake's downfall, we're clearly in a tight spot. Who would bet on the underdog?"Liza gasped, "So, this is their power play to win allies?"Debra nodded.Garland gaped at Liza. "You figured that out?""Didn't you?" she asked back.Garland bristled. "Of course. I'm the family pillar. I saw through everything."Liza side-eyed him.Deb

"Seriously? Someone named Vickie popped up claiming to be the real heiress. No one said Debra isn't.""Oh," Garland exhaled in relief. "So, that chick is a fake?""Fake," Debra said firmly.Liza tilted her head. "Why are you so sure? What if she's legit?""Girl, you're smarter than this." Erica rolled her eyes. "It's an obvious scam. No one's buying it.""Then why bother?" Liza pouted. "If everyone knows she's fake, why embarrass herself?"Debra explained, "Truth doesn't matter. She wants the title, not assets.""Why is that?" Liza remained puzzled. That title alone didn't seem so alluring."She wants the identity because of the hidden treasure," Debra replied. "One of the fou

Trapped too long, it had forgotten how to fly. Yet it flapped its wings and pushed onward until it took flight and disappeared into the distance."Sir, that was your favorite bird," a servant said hesitantly."Loving something doesn't mean clutching it in your hand," Andrew replied with a smile.
