Chapter 5: Tough Superiors!

Late at night, Emily stood at the end of a dark street. Even though her phone was disconnected, she still maintained the gesture of placing her mobile phone by her ear without moving an inch. Dani looked at her and quickly approached her, asking: "What's going on? What did he say?"

Emily's shoulders trembled as she turned to face Dani, her beautiful eyes filled with tears. She sniffled and said: "He... he dumped me! Wolfgang is fed up with me. My love just flew away! A a a. . . . . ."

Dani patted her back to comfort her and asked: "Don't cry, don't cry. What did he say to you?"

Emily choked back tears and repeated the words Wolfgang shouted at her on the phone.

Dani was slightly angry and said: "Why is he like that? Even if you called him late at night, he shouldn't have talked to you like that! His temper is so bad. How can someone with such good looks act like this?"

Emily wiped her eyes and said: "A a a, but I like him. I've never felt this way before when dating someone. . . . . ."

Dani felt sorry for her but didn't think Wolfgang was a suitable person for Emily. She could only try to comfort her by saying: "If he's that good-looking, it's normal to have feelings for him, but his bad temper and behavior are unacceptable. Let's forget what happened tonight, and maybe you'll find someone better next time."

Emily sighed and understood that this was the only thing she could do. Even though Wolfgang had told her not to call him again, she still had some feelings for him.

After Dani had comforted Emily, they both went home. Emily felt lonely when she arrived home, as the matter was unresolved. While living alone, her mother called and asked about her dating situation. Emily told her what had happened, thinking her mother would scold her, but instead, her mother was furious and said: "This guy is too much. How can he talk to my precious daughter like that? He thinks he's so great just because he has a little money? Humph! Don't cry, my dear. Next time, I'll introduce you to someone better."

Emily felt comforted by her mother's words and Dani's support. She fell asleep feeling a little better. But the next day, she woke up with puffy eyes from crying.

Emily looked at her swollen eyes in the mirror, feeling distressed. She didn't want her coworkers to make fun of her appearance. Especially Winston William, who was a complete jerk. She put on some makeup and left for work, feeling like a thief sneaking into the office. She peeked into the room and saw Winston sitting by the window, wearing a dark brown shirt, his head bowed, and his fingers typing quickly on the keyboard. The early morning sun shone through his short brown hair and handsome face, making him look like a perfect statue. If it were the first time Emily had seen him, she would have been swooning and shouting. But... sigh! She had been working with Winston for over half a year and knew he was nothing like his good looks. He was a terrible person with a vicious tongue. The first time she met him, he scolded her and made her cry half the night.

The situation is even more tragic at work, where she is on the same team as him! Typically, there are only three people in each group in the office, but the gentle team leader had given birth two months ago and gone home, leaving only Emily and Winston in the team. Winston had been in the company for a while and had been promoted to a higher position than her. For the past two months, he tormented her every day, physically and mentally exhausted, and had lost several pounds.

Now, she is trying to hide her appearance, fearing that he will ridicule her if he sees her. Emily quickly rushes to her seat when he is not paying attention and buries her head behind a pile of documents, hoping Winston will not notice her. But as soon as she sits down, she hears a cold voice from the window: "Hey."

Emily hits her head on the desk, screaming in her heart. How could he see her hunched over like that when they were several meters apart? Then she hears the sound of Winston's chair creaking as he stands up by the window. Emily accepts her fate and buries her head on the keyboard, not daring to stand up. Soon, footsteps stop beside her, and Winston's voice echoes: "No need to hide. Your appearance was already unattractive, and now you look even worse with those puffy eyes. It's easier to look at you now, though."

Emily is furious and wants to retort, but as in the past, she lacks the courage and can only bow her head to work, pretending that he doesn't exist. Winston doesn't leave, his handsome face carrying a hint of humor: "Failed the blind date again, huh?"

He mentions her again, and Emily feels her nose burn. Unable to control herself, she snaps back at him: "What's it to you? Don't bother me!"

Winston notices her reddened eyes and narrowed pupils, then walks back to his seat as if nothing happened: "Just talking about the blind date. It's not worth your attention. Anyway, don't waste time and finish the product report you haven't sent me yet."

Emily grits her teeth, opens her computer, and immediately sends the report. She throws herself into her work and completes every task Winston assigns her. But he is annoying and unbearable, scolding her for every little mistake she makes. In just two hours, he scolded her three times.

"You're so clumsy and foolish! Did you even go to school? So many spelling mistakes!" Winston is scolding her: "Go fix it! Check it carefully again. If you cause trouble at noon, don't bother eating!"

Emily doesn't say a word, bowing her head to check the document. She used to make fewer mistakes, but maybe she failed the blind date last night effects. She finds it hard to concentrate, and she thinks of Wolfgang's mesmerizing face whenever she lowers her head.

Finding a good man is hard, but unfortunately, the other person hates her! Emily regrets not calling him last night, and who knows if she still has a chance now.

She's busy all morning, and by lunchtime, her colleagues come to her and ask: "Emily, do you want to come to eat with us?"

The company is significant, and they have a cafeteria for their employees with delicious food. Usually, Emily loves to go there for lunch. But today... She looks up and sneakily glances at Winston by the window, seeing that he has a cold expression and probably has no plans to eat. She cannot bow her head and say to her colleagues: “I'm sorry, I'm still busy. Please go ahead without me.”

My colleagues agreed and gave her a sympathetic look. One of them whispered: "Think of a way to tell the manager to change your team... it's not good for you to continue working with Winston like this. You'll suffer."

Emily couldn't agree more. When she first joined the company as a fresh graduate, she was powerless and ignorant of how to please her superiors. She couldn't even remember her manager's name. She didn't dare to bother him in case he disliked her. But somehow, Winston, who spent all day scolding people, was praised by the company management. Emily didn't understand it. She could only silently bear the frustration in her heart.

She waved goodbye to her colleagues and slumped onto her desk. She opened a movie to watch. She had finished her morning work early, but Winston didn't go out for lunch, and she didn't dare to leave without him.

Soon, even the movie couldn't distract her from her hunger. Emily took out her mobile phone and secretly called for takeout to be delivered to the restroom so she could eat. Suddenly, she heard Winston's cold voice: "Stealing to order takeout?"

Emily immediately put away her phone: "No, no!"

Winston snorted, glancing at her: "There's no need to be so cunning when you lie!"

Emily hesitantly lowered her head: "I'm sorry, but famished. Can I go out for lunch?"

Winston tapped his finger on the desk and asked: "Are you hungry?"

Emily nodded eagerly but hesitated to look at him.

Winston's lips curled into a faint smile, then quickly disappeared. He turned his face away and said coldly: "Then hurry up and follow me, don't be slow."

"Uh, okay!" Emily grabbed her purse and followed him into the elevator. After the door closed, the air didn't circulate, and Winston's nose twitched. Suddenly, his face darkened, and he glared at Emily: "Did you touch a dog?"

Emily was stunned and shook her head: "No, no."

Winston was not easy to get along with, and he especially hated dogs. When Emily worked with him, she once gave a stray dog food on the way. As a result, he saw it and scolded her. In the end, Emily had no choice but to go to the restroom to wash her hands, only to barely get Winston's forgiveness.

At that time, their former team leader explained to her that Winston might be allergic to dogs, so he disliked them. But Emily felt strange. She didn't give the dog food before him, so how did he know? It wouldn't be because she smelled like a dog, right? She thought it was too bizarre.
