Chapter 3

******

A week passed and she did not get a call from the studio but she did not let it bother her much because she had better things to worry about.

She was in her room trying to pick out dirty laundry when she heard Jen curse then scream from the kitchen. Little bìtch probably saw a spider! She ran out and found her standing with her feet apart, looking like she just saw a ghost. Following her gaze she looked at the floor then cursed too.

"Really Jay? You couldn't hold it till you got to the bathroom? Now I gotta mop the floor again!"

"Shut the fúck up Kaia, my fùcking water just broke. Call the freaking ambulance."

Kaia knowing herself very well closed her eyes and started counting to ten in her head trying to concentrate on breathing in through her nose and out her mouth. She knew if she started panicking all hell would break lose and Jenny would probably give birth on the floor.

Grabbing her phone out her purse, she dialled for the ambulance while helping Jen with her breathing exercises because her contractions had already started. She pretended to listen intently to the nurse blabber on about things she already knew about because she knew if she didn't Jen would be up her àss with annoying questions and she was not ready to answer how she knew about labour and all that śhit.

They got to the hospital and after what seemed like an eternity, though it was only four pain-filled hours for Jenny, her baby girl Kimberly was born. Kaia was standing as far from the baby as possible.

"You can hold her Kay!"

Kaia internally freaked out as she fought tears that were threatening to make their way down her face. She had made sure to steer clear of any babies after the incident and she had thought she would be strong enough to be with Jen through this but she was far from ready.

Images flashed through her mind and for a moment she thought she would pass out when she felt that familiar tightening in her chest and she silently thanked God when Jen's mother came in. Without a word she passed Kimberly to her grandmother and bolted out the door.

Holding Kimberly had brought back memories she had thought were buried deep in a dark pit of her mind and she started hyperventilating. She considered getting coffee but she knew it would only make things worse; she considered grabbing a smoke and remembering how hard quitting had been, decided against it.

The pain in her chest was getting worse and all she wanted to do was shout and let everything out. But that was old Kaia, who cried about everything. The new Kaia had learned that life was a ruthless bìtch and crying only made you one too.

So she sat down in the hospital cafeteria and did what her therapist had taught her all those years back, she cleared her mind and focused on breathing normally. Moments later her phone rang, but she ignored it and just stared into space, calming herself.

The third time she heard M.I.A's Bad Girls chime on her phone she answered it, cursing at Jenny for disturbing her 'time in the bathroom'. "Can't a woman do her business in peace? Or did you want to wipe my àss for me?" Kaia said as she entered the room.

Jenny could always tell when Kaia was not okay and she also knew never to bring it up if her friend was avoiding the subject. That was why she chose to just smile and pretend she believed Kaia's bathroom story. As long as she was okay, Jenny had no problem.

"Mom will pick me up tomorrow so you don't have to worry about it. And knowing how much you are going to miss me, you can come for dinner anytime you like."

Kaia rolled her eyes though she knew her friend was right. The apartment would be quiet without her and she would be bored out of her fùcking mind. But she was still grateful that she would not have to help out with Kim for a while. She had to get her śhit together first!

Her phone rang again and being annoyed at whoever was calling her with a private number, disturbing her time with her friend, she picked up and said the closest thing in her head, "Who the fùck is this and what the fùck do you want?" When that sexy bedroom voice chuckled, she felt like dying over and over again; it was Beau Navarro.
