Chapter 7

Evelyn opened her eyes and saw a familiar face. She clung to him like he was her last salvation.

Her voice was weak as she said, "Seth, please, take me away."

She didn't want Warren to see her in a mess like this. She didn't want to see the pity in his eyes. She didn't want anything but to leave this place as quickly as possible.

Seth Yarrow, her senior, looked at her anxiously and asked, "How are you supposed to go home like this? I'm taking you to a doctor."

"No! Please, Seth, I just donated blood to someone, so I feel lightheaded. Just send me home, please."

Seth looked at her with concern and empathy in his eyes. He bent down and carried Evelyn in his arms, saying in a soothing voice, "Don't be afraid. I'm taking you away now."

When Warren finally ran out after Evelyn, he happened to see Evelyn being carried into a car by an unknown man. The man was looking at Evelyn with deep concern. It made Warren so angry that he clenched his fists as he watched the car leave, his eyes turning darker than ever.

...

The next time Evelyn opened her eyes again, it was noon the next day.

She hadn't eaten anything since yesterday morning. And to add to that, she'd just donated blood. Her stomach felt flat and empty.

Just as she stepped out of the bedroom, the delicious aroma of food wafted into her nose. She went over to the kitchen inquisitively.

A tall figure walked toward her. It was Seth. He held a bowl of soup in his hands. He was also wearing a pink, ruffly apron around his waist as he smiled at her.

"I asked the doctor about your condition yesterday. She said that you lost too much blood and needed to increase your blood count as quickly as possible, so I made some lentil soup for you. Come and have a taste."

Evelyn looked rather embarrassed. "Seth, I'm sorry for troubling you for the whole night. I'll buy you lunch sometime later."

Evelyn and Seth were both alumni of the Law Faculty at Rothson University. Seth graduated two years earlier than she did. They were both students personally trained by Steven Bennett, one of the biggest authorities in the law industry.

Three years ago, Seth graduated with his Master's degree and went overseas to further his studies, while Evelyn stayed back to be Warren's secretary.

They each took their separate paths after their graduation.

Seth smiled and said, "Sounds good. Mr. Bennett also said that he missed you. Let's ask him out for lunch after you've recovered."

Evelyn scratched her head and said embarrassedly, "Mr. Bennett did a lot for me in the past, but I didn't continue being a lawyer as he hoped, so I feel bad meeting him now. I don't think I'm worthy."

After all, she was Steven's favorite student. He had high hopes for her and even once told the law industry that if Evelyn were to enter the scene, she would be making waves anywhere she went.

However, after graduating, Evelyn gave up on her lawyer dreams and became a secretary just so that she could continue to be with Warren.

Steven had told her many times that it was a huge pity.

Seth pulled out a chair for her like a gentleman. He smiled as he said, "We're all free to choose our own path in life. Mr. Bennett has never blamed you for it."

Evelyn felt a bitter feeling rising in her chest.

She looked at Seth and asked, "You're now a famous lawyer in North Yurope who's raking in millions every year. Why would you suddenly want to come home and continue practicing law here?"

The light flickered in Seth's eyes. His voice was warm and gentle as he said, "I couldn't get used to the food there, so I came back."

He passed Evelyn a soup spoon and pretended to ask nonchalantly, "So, what's up between you and him?"

Evelyn forced a smile at him and said faintly, "We broke up."

Seth's passionate eyes only lingered on her face for a few seconds. He then smiled and said, "Don't worry, I'm here. I won't let him bully you like that again."

He reached out and patted Evelyn fondly on the head as if he was comforting her.

There was no way he didn't know how much Evelyn had gone through while in this relationship. She never stopped crying in her sleep last night.

However, before Seth could withdraw his hand, the door was flung open by an angry Warren. His fierce eyes fixated on Seth's hand that was still on top of Evelyn's head.

He didn't give them any time to react. Instead, he stomped toward Evelyn, snatched the spoon out of her hand, and threw it away. Then, he picked her up from the chair and brought her into the bedroom, slamming the door behind him before locking it in place.

By the time Evelyn came back to her senses, Warren had already pinned her on the bed. Seth was frantically knocking at the door.

Warren emanated a chilling, menacing presence, causing Evelyn's lips to tremble in fright.

"Warren Larkin! You're crazy!" she screamed.

Warren looked at her with red, deranged eyes and growled, "I can be even crazier than now!"

Then, he leaned down and bit Evelyn harshly on the lips.

His mind was filled with the previous scene of Seth looking fondly at her. Warren had never lost his mind over a woman like this before.

He continued harshly biting Evelyn's lips, slowly making his way down her neck and then her chest.

Evelyn continued struggling as she screamed at him, "Warren Larkin! You fucker, we are over! Don't make me look down on you!"

Warren didn't stop. His bites only got increasingly harder and deranged. He clenched his teeth around Evelyn's boob and growled, "Found yourself a new sugar daddy so quickly, huh?"

"We are fucking over! It's none of your business who I'm seeing!"

"Oh, is it? What if I told you I could make him disappear forever in the law industry? Would that still not be part of my business?"

"Warren fucking Larkin, don't you dare!"

"He dared to lay his hands on my possession. You think I wouldn't dare to make him disappear?"

"He's just my senior! There's nothing going on between us. Don't fucking do anything to him!"

Evelyn knew Warren could be extremely cruel to those who made him feel angry or threatened. He would never go easy on them.

Seth was a famous lawyer abroad, but he had only just returned and didn't have a firm foundation in his homeland yet, so whatever Warren did to him would certainly destroy his future here.

Warren looked at her anxious look and scoffed. "Come home with me, or else I won't promise he'll still be alive or kicking tomorrow."

Just then, the door was kicked open by force. Seth didn't wait for Warren to react. Instead, he rushed into the bedroom and aimed his fist at Warren.

Loud crashes were heard throughout the room. Evelyn's cries for them to stop were weak.

A long while later, the commotion finally died down.

Seth's clothes were torn and messed up. He was also a little bloodied as he walked out of the room. He kneeled on the floor and looked at Evelyn with a pitiful look on his face.

"Evelyn, I won't let other people use me to get to you. Come, let's get some food in your stomach."

He then helped her sit on the dining chair. Evelyn looked at him with tears in her eyes as she said, "Seth, I'm so sorry."

"There's nothing to be sorry about. We studied together, so you're my junior in a way. It's my duty to protect you.

"The soup's probably gone cold now. I'll go and heat it up for you."

Seth then brought the bowl of soup into the kitchen.

At that moment, Warren also exited from the bedroom. He didn't look as disheveled as Seth, but there were scratches on his face.

He wiped the blood from his lips and looked at Evelyn darkly. "Follow me home, or stay here and eat his food. Your choice."

Evelyn looked at him coldly. "We are over. I will not be following you back anymore."

"You'd better not regret the choice you made, Evelyn Jefferson!"

Just as he was about to leave, Clara called him on his phone. He answered the call impatiently.

"Warren, Ms. Jefferson wiped off the whole footage of the pantry incident. My parents just learned of it, and they now want to sue her for causing intentional harm. Hurry, come here and talk them out of it! Otherwise, Ms. Jefferson is going to jail!"

Warren looked at Evelyn coldly and said without hesitation, "Then let her rot in there!"
