The next day, Caitlin and Kathryn went back to Creeksville on their mother’s order to find the girl’s family and see what the people are up to and while Kathryn won’t stop talking, Caitlin’s mind drifted back to the two priests she saw yesterday and what she overheard. The priest, Aiden, had referred to them as demons taking the form of humans and he had said they will be responsible for the end of the world. It was not as if it has never crossed her mind about the dangers lurking because of the other Covens, especially the Lifeblood Coven that is ruled by Aamon. At least, he was the reason for the different Covens they have now after the death of Lady Renee, the human wife of Lord Dante. But then, Caitlin remembered him mentioning about a sacred book. What could it possibly be? And how is their kind connected to it?
“Caitlin!”Caitlin stopped walking immediately and she turned her head to look at her sister who held an annoying look.“You are not listening to me,” Kathryn said.“Oh, you want attention?” Caitlin asked and received a frown from her.“I just got a whiff of a witch. Are you not even paying attention at all?” Kathryn said in a low voice.Caitlin’s brows furrowed a bit and she took in the air around them which smelt bad but soon disappeared and not a second later, they heard screams coming from the opposite direction and saw people heading towards the direction. She looked at Kathryn and as if in sync, they both also start to head towards the direction of the scream. They soon got to a few gathering which soon started to fill up with curious people who wanted to witness what had happened and both Caitlin and her sister managed to find their way to the front. It was then she saw what had caused the scream. In the small river where a bridge to cross over to the next side was, a man had been slaughtered alongside two other people and their bloods had mixed with the clear water, polluting it, but Caitlin could already discern what it was.“Clear the way!” a man shouted and some few men came rushing towards the spot with ropes and sacks. They were going to take the body out.Caitlin looked at her sister and a nod from her, they separated from the crowds of people. They needed to find the witch as soon as possible and hoped she has not gotten away and while the people were being distracted by the floating dead bodies, Caitlin made use of her ability and sneaked away silently. In the deserted part of the town, a hooded woman walked in a fast pace while clutching something tightly against her cloak and as if sensing something, she suddenly stopped and held a deep frown.“Who are you?” she demanded as her eyes were fixed on the ground and just as she asked, she raised her eyes up to see someone standing in her way.“What did you do to those people?” Caitlin asked away without beating around the bush and she watched the witch’s every movement with careful eyes.“Blackburn…” the witch muttered and Caitlin caught it.“Was it you?” Caitlin asked. “You are the one who took a young girl hostage and plan to use her blood for what exactly?”“It’s you,” the witch said and Caitlin raised a brow.“Do you know who I am?”“No, but you will soon be known.”Caitlin became confused at what the witch said and it was then her eyes lowered to see that she was holding onto something which peeked out from her coat. She saw something black which looks like a book and it gave her the description of the sacred book the priest talked about which she had pictured from the mind of the other priest.“I see that you’ve stolen the so-called sacred book. What is it about this sacred book exactly?” Caitlin asked, looking curious.Seeing that she had been caught, the witch made to use a spell but Caitlin caught on quickly and grabbed the book from her coat which the witch held on to tightly and they both dragged the book where Caitlin was determined not to let it go.“You know you can’t win, right?” Caitlin said and the witch looked at her with anger in her eyes.“You don’t know what you are dealing with,” the witch said sternly.“Then help me know,” Caitlin said. The witch glared hard at her and then finally stopped dragging the book with her but still had her hand holding onto it and when Caitlin thought she was about to tell her, she suddenly felt another presence of a witch and it seemed the witch sensed it too because the next second, she casted a spell that sent Caitlin flying several feet backwards and crashing into the dirt.Caitlin felt a sharp pain on her knee where the skin had torn but was quick to heal back and she made to stand up when she suddenly stopped and looked down on her hand.“The sacred book…” she said with slightly wide eyes when she saw that she was holding on to it. “Why did the witch—”“I told you these things are not to be said outside because the walls have ears and now here you are telling me that the sacred book has gone missing!”Caitlin heard little whisperings which belonged to the Father priest and she quickly hid the book in her cloth before standing up. It seems the bodies had been taken away because the townspeople now walked in the area where she was and she took the advantage to walk slowly in their midst while following the priests who walked in the front, whispering silently to each other.“Father, I told you before about these things, these visions and signs, but you chose to ignore me. It is not because the walls have ears, Father, it is because the prophecy is coming soon. And now we have to face what is coming. Destruction, deaths, demo—”“Enough!” The Father stopped him from speaking further.“You think it is enough?” Aiden asked. “What if we are about to reap the sins of the first leader of our church? What if they knew about this prophecy all along because they brought it upon us? Remember those women they slew on the streets and burnt alive and staked to the cross? Even the children…”“Aiden!” the Father cautioned him in a loud voice while stopping and the people who were walking turned to look at them before they resumed walking. “You have said enough already,” he said in a low voice and started to walk away, leaving him standing there.Caitlin also stopped walking and tried to know what was going on in his mind but it was all void and she wondered what kind of man he was, and as if aware that she was looking at him, he turned to the back and they both locked eyes. Caitlin wanted to look away and walk in the other direction, but for unknown reasons, she found herself standing there and staring at the strange man.Aiden looked at her with a look of recognition and it was when he started to make his way towards her that the spell broke from Caitlin’s eyes and she felt a hand on hers. Looking at whose hand it was, she saw that it was Kathryn’s and she tug at her to start moving. She couldn’t be more than glad that her sister had saved her from such an awkward situation as they head back to Old-Vine Town.On their way, Kathryn was moody, and when Caitlin asked her what it was, she said, “They somehow knew we were coming so they got rid of all the evidence. I went to the place and it was all burnt down. They must have killed the man and Bathilda’s family before dumping them in that river.”“Bathilda?”“That is the girl’s name. She told me herself.”That night, Caitlin stayed in her room and after an hour, she dropped the sacred book on the table and held a torn-out page close to the burning fire. Her breath shuddered as she stared at a picture of herself in the paper she held and confusion was written all over her face. She does not understand how she is connected to the book or what was written in it but one thing she knows is that, it is not her, but her own child. From everything she read and understood, it says that she is the key and her child will be the savior of mankind when evil is near. She has to offer her own child to save all mankind, including their own kind. Now it made sense to her on why the witch had said to her that she does not know what she was dealing with but then, why did she leave her with the book?“No! I am not sacrificing my own child for the sake of mankind. The fate of my child won’t be determined by a book.” And after saying that, she took her cloak and leapt out through the window.*In Creeksvill
“Mother?”Caitlin snapped out of her thoughts and turned her head to look at her daughter who sat up on the mat.“You are awake,” Caitlin said and smiled before standing up with the cloth in her hand. She cut the thread and straightened the dress for Kyra to look at.“Are we going somewhere?” Kyra asked, guessing what it meant.“Yes,” Caitlin replied. “We are going to see an old friend.”*Kyra walked with her mother in the night and she felt safe. Night times are the times where she did not have to worry about what the people are saying about them because they would hardly see that they are the ones walking. Caitlin made sure not to walk in the path where the street torches burnt brightly and she made her way towards an old bookshop. On getting there, she moved her eyes to look at the side before pushing the door open and as soon as they got in, the door came rushing back and it slammed itself shut.“That was a good save.”Caitlinheard a female voice and she pulled Kyra along with h
In the outskirts of the towns, there was another world, a world for vampires and they were divided into four sections and distributed at every parts. One of them is Arkadia, ruled by a powerful leader; Aamon. Just as the name sounds, he is the devil himself and he was the one who broke the coalition between the Vampires after Lord Rexius reign. At one side of the border was Kyle; Aamon’s loyal servant, and few other men of his coven, hiding behind the bushes and waiting for what seems to be their prey. They had gotten information that some humans were trespassing and Aamon had sent him to go inspect things himself. Being the one who receives orders directly from their leader, Kyle felt superior than other members of his coven and this gave him the authority to act like a leader himself. It was what he has always wanted, to be a leader and rule thousands of armies, to see his people adhering to every word he says. He had always thought it was his fate and he would one day achieve it. I
Kyle sat there in silence, sucking in his anger and when the wind blew in their direction, he closed his eyes and thought back on his past. He and Gazzeus have been friends since childhood. They didn’t belong in the same coven at that time but they had met on a fateful day. During those times, they still live amongst humans but hide their identities and he had followed his mother to the marketplace where she was getting foodstuffs. He had sneaked away from her side and went exploring all by himself when he got to a stand where hot buns were being sold. The aroma of the buns alone made him salivate but he didn’t have any money to buy one so he watched the vendor closely and waited until he turned to attend to something when he stole one from the tray.“Thief!” Kyle remembered the vendor catching him in time and he was in a fix where he had to decide to put the bun back and face the shame as other people were now watching them. But his greed wanted to have a taste of it and so, he ran a
Athens is known to be the largest of all Covens and it is more like a Vampire Headquarters. Vampires from all covens, from all corners of the world are gathered at the council and nothing happened in their world without their knowledge about it and in most cases, without their approval. They ruled in all matters, gave permissions or took it away. That is how powerful and respected it was and they are called the Silver-Crest Coven. After Lord Rexius reign; the man who brought about the coalition to rid the hunters, the next leader chosen was Lord Dante who married a human lady named Renee. The Vampires had all frowned on the matter and would not accept a human to be amongst them and that was what had caused the alliance to be broken which was led by Aamon. It was not long after that Lady Renee died after giving Lord Dante a heir and the Elders of the council blamed it on the humans limited life-span. And yet, they refused to accept a child born out of a human and because he did not pos
“Are you doing okay?”Lady Phoenix turned around to the sound of the voice and she saw Elder Donovan walking towards her. He joined her at the gallery and seeing her wrap her arms around her body, he pulled off his coat and covered her with it.“Thank you, Donovan,” she thanked him and looked at him briefly before staring ahead of her, into the night sky.“How is Sage? I didn’t get to talk to him,” she said, shaking her head.“He is in my room, asleep,” he let her know and didn’t take his eyes away from her. Finally breaking after few seconds, he said, “Listen, I know it is hard for you. I know how you feel, but please trust me, I never wanted this for you.”“No no, Donovan, don’t say that. You can’t be feeling pity for me now,” she said, turning fully to him. “You also lost your brother today. It might be hard now but it’s going to pass. And don’t blame yourself for any of this. It was never your fault. Renee was my friend and she would have wanted me to do the same. I couldn’t watch
Rune held his hand up at a sea side, stopping his men and keeping at alert. They had travelled several miles from Athens in just few minutes and ended up at a vast sea. From their visions, they had seen another building, probably another coven which they are not aware of. Rune had travelled through this route before but he had failed to notice the place, probably because it was always covered by a mist. After waiting for few minutes when everything had gone silent, he motioned again with his hand and they took up to the sky like a bat before descending on the grounds outside of the building. Like shadows, they sneaked inside through the window and Rune ordered them to separate, but not so fast because a strange wind blew suddenly, sending them crashing to the wall and a force held them down.“Something is wrong,” one of the men said in a strained voice and even Rune felt the power of the force that he started coughing up blood.A torch was suddenly lit and they all saw a man dressed
Rune walked with Elder Donovan on the cobblestone and they both seem to be in deep thoughts. His men sighted him and they came to him immediately.“What happened? Where is the man?” one of them asked him.Rune looked at him and said, “We didn’t find him. That is what you should say if anyone asks.”They looked at one another and Rune called their attention by saying, “Do you trust me?”They returned their eyes back to him and nodded one after the other.“Then from now on, only do as I say,” he said.“What about the Council?” another asked.“The Council have deceived us for too long. There has been a new change as I speak. Silver-Crest Coven will now be ruled by the Elders. Right now, we can only trust Elder Donovan,” he said and looked at him with a nod of approval. “Let us return to Athens.”His men turned around and at once, they leapt into the air, returning back. Rune turned to look at the building and he asked Elder Donovan, “Can you accept it? Being mortal?”“It is a hard choice
