Chapter Four

It’s been a few hours and Luna is picking on Jolene, “What if your mate is a grandpa?”

Jolene makes a mocking, gagging noise.

Luna laughs, “I am serious! What if he has been waiting for you for like fifty years?”

Jolene shakes her head, “That's gross!”

Luna shrugs but argues, “I agree, but wolves live by different rules. Your soulmate could already have a wife and children. If he has been waiting for you for over ten years, he’s allowed to marry an unmated she wolf.”

In slow motion, Jolene turns her head to look at Luna.

Seeing that she's not kidding Jolen freaks out, “What if he is old, Can he protect me? If hes married to another wolf, then where does that leave me?”

Luna’s tries not to laugh, “You’d have to share him..”

Jolene freaks out, “Ewe!”

Luna can’t contain her laughter, “I’ve seen where two unmated 40 year old wolves got married. Both of their mates came like 20 years later. They all lived together and were a very powerful four-some.”

Jolene would normally laugh but she shakes her head, “I will not!”

Luna shrugs, “You can say whatever you want, but once bonded.. You can’t undo that.”

Jolene sighs, “He’d have to divorce her!”

Luna shakes her head, “That’s illegal in the wolf world. If you made him, you’d be held accountable.”

Jolene groans and screams into the palms of her hands.

Luna pats her shoulders, “Let's talk about your training.”

Jolen is filled with confusion and excitement, “What do you mean?”

Luna raises her eyebrows, “I love you, but we have sheltered you. You will get eaten alive if you don’t learn how to fight like a wolf. Even then, that won’t be enough. I am going to train you to be a self proclaimed witch.”

Jolene is confused, “What?”

Luna doesn’t make eye contact but her tone is warning enough, “I will teach you to use the earth and the moon, to do small amounts of witchcraft. You are not a natural, so whenever you borrow from the earth, water, or the moon. You need to ask before you borrow.”

She takes in a painful breath and starts to tell a story, “A long time ago, a witch fell in love with a wolf. She taught him so much, but other wolves killed her. He got so mad, he forgot to ask for permission and he used the three elements to kill the wolf pack…”

Jolene gasps, “Oh, no!”

Luna nods, “He has been trapped and used by the moon Goddess, as an example. He has been her slave ever since.”

Jolene argues, “This sounds dangerous!”

Luna shrugs, “Not having the three elements on your side is dangerous.”

Jolene can’t argue so she changes the subject to, “How are you going to teach me how to fight like a wolf?”

Luna is filled with frustration when she blurts out, “I don’t know! I don’t have all the answers!”

Jolene nods and remembers, “How did you do that, back there?”

Luna plays dumb, “How did I do what, my love?”

Jolene playfully slaps her, “That, you slammed both of them up against the wall.”

Luna chuckles, “I’m a witch!”

Jolene shook her head, “No, Rora is a witch too..”

Luna cuts her off, “So?”

Jolene gives her a knowing look, “Rora always uses verbal enchantments. Every witch that I have met does verbal chants. You didn’t say a word, you just flung your hands around!”

Luna is obviously hiding something, “I guess, I never noticed that before.”

Jolene doesn’t believe her, but knows that Luna won’t tell her. Out of frustration, she lays her head on the window and closes her eyes.

Rora pulls over to the side of the road and climbs out. She motions for Luna to come, Jolene is sleeping. Luna quietly climbs out of the car, and makes her way to her sister.

Rora tells her, “I think we need to go and see the queen..”

Luna cuts her off, “Not going to happen..”

Rora argues, “We need help!”

Luna agrees, “Yes, but not from the queen.”

Rora is impatient, “Then from who!”

Luna grabs her arms and with her touch, eyes, and tone she lays down the law, “I will summon the Goddesses and get advice.”

Rora argues, “but, you know the Goddesses are still mad..”

Luna shakes her head, “No, they aren’t..”

Rora questions, “How do you know?”

Luna shrugs, “Whispers, chats, secrets in that air..”

To most, her ramblings wouldn’t make sense, but Rora knows what this means. Luna has started worshiping again. Rora isn't nearly as powerful or adventurous as her sister. She would never dabble with uncontrollable power, but Luna puts all her faith in the Goddess's.

Rora asks, “So how do we teach her to fight like a werewolf?”

Luna shrugs, “I am hoping that the moon Goddess, will show me?”

Rora gasps, “No!”

Luna goes to argue but Rora continues, “What if you ask her to show us who the mate is, he can train her, and fall in love before the full moon!”

Luna laughs and hugs her sister, “This is the Rora I know and love! That is such a charming idea!”

Rora pushes her away, “So where is a good spot?”

Luna points a knowing finger at her, taking a few steps back. She flings her arms into the air, and spins. Suddenly she stops. Rora just stares. Luna's eyes are white, this shows she’s tapping into her powers.

In a deep voice that isn’t Lunas she demands, “Go to a river and wait. When the moon lights up the grass and shows it’s self to the water, the one you need will appear.”

A gust of wind blows both sisters to the ground. They stare at each other in fear, and excitement. They jumps up and hold hands, spinning around in circles. Laughter fills the air. They abruptly stop at the sounds a confused voice.

They look to see Jolene, “Where are we, why are you two dancing in the middle of the rode, and what on earth is so funny?”

Rora runs to Jolenes side of the car, “Luna has found the answers!”

Jolenes watches as Rora runs to the van and Luna climbs back into the car.
