Chapter 38

When they get to a safe spot, Jolene sets Ruby and the baby down. She remains in wolf form and goes for a run. She gets all her energy out, and transforms back into Jolene's body. Jolene is worried because the sun isn't rising. She makes her way back to the campsite. She sits at a distance and watches as Theo and Ruby hold each other, and feed the baby.

She holds her necklace, but there's no response.

She whispers, “Do you see this?”

She continues anyway, “This is how it should be. Them, together with their family. Us, together with our family!”

She can't help but smile when she sees that the sun is starting to rise.

The sound of his voice brings happy tears to her eyes, “Are you mine?”

His question needs no answer, but she knows that it will make him happy.

She abbliges with a giggle, “All yours. My wolf only wants him to be safe!”
