Chapter 02

Hugo's POV

“Oh, this place is bigger than I thought it would be,” I said to myself as I entered the main gate of the university I transferred into. As I let my eyes wander around while walking, I cannot help but get mesmerized to the beauty that this place serves. I mean, I am a man, and very much alive, but appreciating the beauty of such things does not make me feel less of a man, does not make me less of a human – I mean, temporary living here in a human world meant to live temporarily here as if I am one of them. Powerless. Yikes.

As I continue walking into this big place, there were always tall trees that are erected from literally everywhere. I also noticed their field that has an enormous size. It would be heaven for a vampire like me to have that kind of training ground. Maybe I can also build myself a field like that in the near future, when the most awaiting event already came. I am confident with the result regardless of the power my brother, who is my great rival, holds. Maybe compared to my skills and abilities, his are always on top. But man, competing with someone who will do everything and has always seemed to know how to get what he wants is tough to beat.

This place has a high-level of beauty, yes, but some of the people here seemed to be nosy. I was certain of that. There are at least ten pair of eyes that are examining either my looks or the way I dress. I am so much aware of the looks they were giving me, even though I gave them zero shot of look or any of my attention. And though the paleness of my skin were very much conspicuous because of my all-black-style, I am certain that I have the looks and charm that can drive the people around me in any possible way, much in a way I want to. That is how I get my wants and desires. Speaking of that, I need to get in my class on time if I want to have clean records and start making a move on this particular person to finish my mission smoothly, as soon as possible.

I am now walking through the aisle of the hall way in the building where the rooms for Psychology students were located, when I suddenly spotted this girl who looks so familiar to me. Right, she is the girl who accommodated and guided me in the process of passing all the important and necessary requirements that are needed for my successful transfer in this university. Instead of making such an effort in wandering around that would likely confuse me with all the rooms they have here and intersections that are God knows what for. I bet that would be the source of switching my mood into something that no one wants to witness. So I walked towards the girl who is wearing a name tag, indicating her name, “Faith”.

“Hey, Faith,” I called as soon as I got to stand in front of her, making her look like a small creature beside me because of my tall height towering her. It was actually so funny how she exerts effort in looking up at me just to scrutinize who had just called her. As soon as she finished trying to recognize my face, she smiled. “Hey, Hugo, do you need help?” she asks.

“I was just going to try to ask you where the room is for class Psychology – B? I am having a hard time looking around, given that I am the new student here and was not familiar to all the corners that this building has,” I told her while subtly scratching my neck and faking my shy smile to show her I am quite embarrassed for asking.

She bobbed her head to nod and proceeds to answer my question. She even gave me a few basic instructions, while trying my best not to get pissed of all the talk she makes, because this conversation is surely eating my precious time. “Just go to my class, by the way, that was just located beside yours, if you have any more questions regarding the policies and such. See you around!” she finally said after being satisfied of all the talking that she did. I said my gratitude and decided to turn my back on her before she decided to say another word.

I took a deep breath before entering the doorway of the classroom that was supposed to be ours. The first thing that I did as soon as I stepped inside was to locate my target, which was not so hard. Because there I found her, sitting just in front of her guy friend, and beside the girl one. Shoulder length hair, round doe eyes that make her look so innocent, wearing the same uniform that all the girls in this class are wearing. Target locked. I threw a glance at my wristwatch, 5 minutes before classes. So she really is an early bird.

I spotted a chair at the back, where I can still see her, nodding and smiling as her friends bicker with one another. Such a goody two shoes just by the appearance. Makes me wonder where she got the guts to leave their pack and live in this powerless, below mediocre, and messy world. But, oh well, that does not concern me. That is not why I am here.

The professor came, who introduced me briefly to the class. I stood up and smiled at everyone around the room. The smile that have always been my asset growing up. And I am pretty sure that no one here is thinking anything weird about me, just a nice little transferee who smiles a lot and would talk to anyone who approaches him. Who would ever suspect anything?

“My name is Hugo, and I am looking forward to being friends with you all,” I said to the class, with my smile not disappearing the whole time. Majority of the class smiled back, some nodded my way. After this little introduction, I was free to sit back down.

“Hey, Hugo, say, are you free after classes? My friends and I are planning to play some billiards in a place just a ride from here,” my seatmate, whose name is yet to be known, suddenly spoke.

Billiards, huh? How lame could humans get? I would prefer blood hunting right now. “Sorry, but I still have these requirements to complete as a transferee. Maybe next time, uh, what is your name, by the way?” I answered.

“Oh, that sucks. And the name is Troy, man. I would invite you again next time.”

“Sure,” I concluded with a smile.

The professor started the lesson. And as it progresses, I noticed that the girl, Eliana, have been very active in answering all the questions. Sometimes coming up with her own questions to ask to the teacher. So she is the kind of girl who is nice and always seemed to be studying on her free time. What a frail target. This mission would be over before I knew it.

Classes went by until it was time for dismissal. I headed towards the door, but not without smiling to and having small talk with everyone on my way. I think that by now I have already interacted with half of my block, excluding Eliana and her little group of friends.

When I have successfully made my way out, I immediately went out of the school grounds to go back to the room that I was renting; without a roommate, of course. I opened the door swiftly and started for the fridge, where I am hoarding lots of blood to drink. This is the only thing that I stock up on. This is the only food that I would need, anyway. Sure, I could eat what the normal people here eat, but I refuse to stoop down to their level like that. Not when I am the only one around and nobody would be watching me savor my favorite thing to intake. The sole food that keeps me sane, alive, and stronger.

As I fill my stomach with it, I stared at the wall just in front of my desk. Photos. Lots of it. At the university’s main gate, at the convenience store, in front of the dormitory building, even on a random road. Different places, day or night. But with the same person in every piece of it. Eliana Deere, of the very powerful Deere clan. One of the biggest, strongest, of all the pack. The only daughter of Boss R, with the inheritance of the throne just waiting for her. Eliana, you make me go speechless by how dumb you are. Turning your back against your pack to bump shoulders with humans, live in a room where humans sleep, eat what they eat, learn what they learn. I refuse to be like you. A face so innocent and pleasing to look at, with a brain so stupidly small. You do not deserve a throne anywhere.

I finished what I was drinking and opened a device that they called laptop. I have mastered this, along with some other essential gadgets a long time ago, ever since I decided that I would go through with my plan. These things would be needed and helpful if I want to really blend with other college students. I was just unable to get a room in the university’s dorm, since it has a full capacity as of now and my time of transferring was not very convenient. Luckily, I was able to find a place nearby. Just a ten minute walk, five if I would get a ride.

The word “online shopping” was loading in my browser. I figured that I would need more clothes to wear, ones that match those that the other guys in my class wear. Like that guy Troy’s clothes earlier. I took a note in my mind to make sure to ask him next time about where he buys his attire. I browsed more online and when I finally stopped, the clock says that it is already eight in the evening. I gathered two more of the same liquid that I drank earlier and prepared for another long night, to prepare for my next steps tomorrow. Sleep is unnecessary for a man on a mission.
