Chapter Six - Zion

I drop the file after scanning through the content with a sigh. I don't know if what I did is right but I know I don't have the intention of getting to know her. Mentioning dating for two months to get to know each other was a lie. That's just me stalling. I need to show Nana romantic relationship isn't for me and two months is enough for that. I plan on making Laura willingly break off the engagement during that time. I won't get entangled in a forced marriage.

Another wave of headache hits me and I hold on to my desk for support as I groan in pain. I have been feeling under the weather since I woke up this morning probably from the stress I went through yesterday.

Speaking about yesterday, after Laura left my office in such a dramatic manner. I had dashed out of my office when I received a call saying my Grandma was in an emergency state. I remember how hard it was for me to breathe in the car, I had to whine down the car window. I was scared, I couldn't afford to lose another family member.

I couldn't go through the phase of losing someone I love again. The thought scares me a lot.

But right there in her room, with her eyes closed in deep slumber from the effect of the drugs administered to her I was on my knees beside her bed, shaking in tears. I had decided to grant her wish. I would marry Laura just as she wanted.

As much as I hate the words love and marriage, I have to do this for her but I'm not promising to love Laura. That would never happen.

Sudden spots flash in my vision as another wave of headache hits my head. I place my head on the desk, groaning as I wait for the headache to calm. This is getting out of hand I thought. I've never been sick and I won't be surprised if I do after what happened yesterday. I bolt up and round my desk, sending a quick text to my driver Lucas to meet me at the entrance of the building as I exit my office.

I glance around noting Laura as left as I had informed her. I round the corridor with a long stare unfazed by the usual stare from my staff. They do that every time and I wonder if they ever get tired of drooling over me

The ride home is silent except for the worried look Lucas keeps giving me through the rear mirror.

"Are you alright sir?"

"Yeah, I'm good. Thanks Lucas"

"You sure you're alright sir? You look unwell. Should I turn around and drive to the hospital?" he asks again in concern and I sigh trying not to get irritated After he is only concerned about my health

"I am alright, Lucas. It's just a headache" Lucas gives me the "Are you sure" look again through the rear mirror. "Okay fine, get me medicine for my headache. I should be fine after taking that"

He keeps his eyes on the road but takes a few glances at me through the rear mirror before nodding "Alright sir"

I nod and sigh, closing my eyes as I lean back to rest my head on the chair.

I breathed a sigh of relief when the car pulled into my mansion. Without waiting for Lucas, I open the car door and step out squinting at the sun. "I'll be right back sir" Lucas calls out as he drives out of the building probably to get the medicine

I nod while I walk slowly to the door entrance. My head pounded harder with each step. I push open the door, making my way to the stairs ignoring how silent and unhomely the house is After some minutes, my feet finally come to a stop outside my room door and I push the door open again as I drag my feet lazily towards my bed before collapsing on it with a huff

Just as I am about to sleep, a soft knock sounds on my door and I turn my head to see Lucas standing at the doorway "Sir, your medicine". I could only manage an "oh". However, he steps into my room, walks towards the bedside drawers he places a paper bag containing the medicine and a bottle of water on it"

"Should I get you something to eat?"

I slightly lift my head to meet his gaze "No, no, I'll do that myself. Thank you, Lucas, you may leave"

I watch him leave, shutting the door softly behind him before resting my head back on the bed. I lay in that position for what felt like minutes until eventually, sleep overcame me.
