"I feel sorry for your best friend," Blake said as Mila told him what happened between her and Emma.
"Ex-best friend," she corrected him as she ate a slice of pizza. They were at Pizza Hut alone, he wanted to spend the rest of the day with her and she wanted that too."You can't ignore her forever, Mil." Blake frowned, "if anything, it looks like Emma needs you in her life. Best friends have fall-outs, you can't hold that against her forever. She made a big mistake, I totally agree with you on that, but she is just blinded by the whole new life she got herself into.""Let's just not talk about her now." Mila changed the subject. She did not want to talk about Emma or what happened between them. How could she forgive her after she accused her of stealing? How could she forgive her when she made fun of her writings in front of her friends? How could she forgive her when she told her that she has only been friends with her, so she could take advanAfter Mila finished working on Tuesday, she called Emma to see if she could pick up her things or not. Emma told her that she could come anytime she wanted and she did not need to ask. When she called her, Emma saved the number, feeling happy that she finally got her new number. Mila could sense how Emma was trying to fix what happened between them, but she could not find it in her heart to forget what happened and start over. She could not believe how Emma accused her of stealing and kicked her out. She could not forget how she made fun of what she wrote and made her feel bad about her job. She could not ignore how she told her in front of all of them that she thought she was only friends with her just to take advantage of her.Mila arrived twenty minutes after leaving the office. She was a bit dressed up, so she expected Emma to ask her about that; however, she did not want to give her any updates on her personal life. She knocked on the door and Emma opened it for he
Two weeks passed since Mila and Emma last talked. Emma was starting to accept the fact that Mila was out of her life and she had no plans to forgive her anytime soon, but she was still willing to wait."Don't forget, the party is at nine!" Cole reminded Emma for the third time. She did not want to party, but she has not gone to any party for long and she ran out of excuses."I will come, don't worry." She gave him a half smile then looked in front of her as they both entered the campus."Great, wear something sexy babe." He smirked before kissing her and she wanted nothing but to pull away, yet she could not do that. Emma did not want to admit it, but Cole scared her.She hated it when he got angry, she hated how he frightened her, she hated how he bruised her a couple of times before."I need to get to class, bye," she told him after they pulled away and hurried to her next class. She wanted to get away from him. She knew t
Emma's body shivered as Cole slammed the door. She was petrified and she felt like she was about to pass out at any second, her face was as white as ice and her hands were cold. Cole's face was red with anger, he looked scary. As he took a few steps towards her, she instantly started to walk backwards till her legs hit the coffee table, making her stumble."C-cole... what happened? Why are you looking at me like that?" she whimpered, he did not care if she was scared or not, he wanted to punish her although she did nothing wrong. Emma froze in her spot and could not move her feet as she stood beside the coffee table."What were you doing with that guy?" His voice was fuming with fury. He was standing just an inch away from her and it was like Emma forgot how to breathe."T-talking, th-that's all," she spoke truthfully."It looked more than that," he replied, and before Emma could say anything, she was met with a hard slap on her left cheek that left a cut
"Is that the one you told me not to be too harsh on? The one I should eventually forgive?" Mila hissed at her friends. She could not decide if she was more angry or hurt after the phone call with Emma. "I fucking called her to tell her about an internship and she told me to block her, forget about her, and never call her again! Wow! I'm so done with her!""There must be something wrong, this can't be something she has done by her own will." Julie tried to defend Emma. She was not siding with Emma, but she saw how Emma looked at Mila, how she talked to her. You could never talk or look at someone the way Emma did and be rude and mean to them at the same time."You're giving me more reasons to hate her," Hannah muttered. "Julie, quit defending her. The girl is bad news, period.""You can never be sure of that. They were friends for eleven years and now she suddenly became bad news?" Leila sided with Julie."People change," Hannah replied, shrugging.
Emma was alone in her apartment, looking at pictures on Instagram. As she scrolled down the pictures, she saw a new picture Mila uploaded a few hours ago. It was a picture of her with the guy she saw him with a couple of times before. The guy had his arm around her neck and he was kissing her cheek while Mila had a wide smile on her face; it was a genuine smile Emma could recognize from a thousand miles away. She liked the picture and set her phone beside her on the couch. She was thankful that Mila did not block her on social media; she needed to check on her from time to time even if the only available way was checking her social media accounts.Emma was happy for her best friend, she was more than happy for her. Yes, she still considered Mila her best friend. The guy, who she learnt his name was Blake, was Mila's first boyfriend and she was hoping he was treating her right. She could not help but think, what if he was just like Cole? Cole was all nice and loving, but it tu
Halloween came rather quickly, it was as if the semester was flying by. Too many things happened in the span of a month and a half. Mila, Blake, Julie, Leila, and Hannah were all going to the same party. It was a party thrown at one of Blake's friends’ house. Ashton, Blake's friend, had a thing for Leila and he wanted to get to know her more, so he asked Blake to suggest going to his party in front of the girls, and luckily, they agreed. However, only Mila knew about Ashton's crush over Leila and knew about the reason behind the suggestion."Are you going to match with Blake?" Hannah asked Mila, who was putting on make-up. Mila was extremely excited about her first Halloween party with Blake."Yes! I am, as you can see, Daisy and he is going to be Mr. Gatsby." Mila sounded ecstatic as she spoke. This was all new to her. She was not used to having a boyfriend, going on dates, having somebody to pamper her, and all of those beautiful things."He makes you ha
Emma stared at her reflection in the mirror, her eyes brimmed with tears and her fingers traced the fingerprints on her neck. It’s been two days and they did not fade, they were getting darker. She took a thin scarf and wrapped it around her neck to hide the marks Cole left on her. She made sure that her long sleeves were long enough to cover the bruises on her arms. Emma mastered the art of covering her bruises on her face with make-up. She was dead from the inside and looked lifeless on the outside. How did Cole manage to turn her into somebody she never thought she would be? How did he manage to suck life out of her? How did she allow him to have control over her in that way? Emma looked away and moved to her bed, taking her backpack then left her room. She walked to the living room and went to the kitchen to make herself something to eat and to drink her coffee. She was about to make herself some French toast, but she quickly put everything back in the fridge, rememberin
I was at the college library trying to finish the assignment that was due next week, but I could not write anything down, I could not think straight. My mind was drifting to different places and by different places, I meant horrendous thoughts and scenarios. I kept thinking about Emma. I was worried about her, she did not look good at all. There was something bad going on in her life and she refused to talk about it with anyone, especially with me. Why did she feel the need to keep me out of her life? She was being abused, I was sure of that. I had a feeling she wasn’t attacked, but I had no proof. I knew I told her that I would not be there for her again after what she had done to me, but that was all some angry talk. I would never forgive myself if she got hurt and I knew that she needed me at that time, yet I was not there to help her. Nobody knew her like I did and during our whole friendship, I have not seen her that broken before, I have never seen her looking that dull
