I was starting to regret not meeting Brooke and Christine for dinner. I was starving and the two of them were slow. Walking into the kitchen I pulled the freezer open seeing a watermelon Popsicle. Tearing open the wrapper I frowned as I heard the doorbell ring. Who could that be? I knew Brooke wasn't seriously wanting me to open the door for her.
Walking to the front door I opened it up freezing in place. I was seriously thinking of pinching my self when he spoke, "are you going to invite me in or what?"
I blinked moving to the side as he walked in, Seth Greer was walking into my house. I must be dreaming. I watched as he walked straight to the couch and sat down. "Go get dressed."
Frowning at him I crossed my arms in front of my body, "for what?"
He grabbed the remote turning on the tv, "we are going to get you a new phone, now go on."
Shaking my head I walked in between him and the tv, "What? No, I told you I'm good."
Seth looked up at me, "look I owe you a phone, go get dressed Kennedy."
I opened my mouth to speak but I was too shocked that he knew my name. I started to ask him how he knew my name but it seemed like such a stupid question when he was in my house watching tv liked he belonged there. Of course, he would know my name from my Instagram but still, things like this didn't happen.
Walking to my room I put my makeup on and brushed my hair before pulling on a pair of jeans and a black v neck shirt. Looking in my mirror I frowned wondering if I needed to change into something nicer but I quickly decided that this was fine. For one it was raining and two Seth was in some sweats and a hoodie.
Making my way back to the living room I saw he had turned some ESPN bullshit on. He looked up at me and I looked down feeling like he was studying me. "Look for real, you don't have to do this. I'm not going to make a big deal about what happened and if you want I'll take those pictures off of social media."
Seth stood up, "you want to know why I'm doing this?" I nodded as he walked up to me, "cause you make things difficult when it should be easy and I accepted your challenge."
He was so close to me I couldn't think clearly, taking a step back from him I looked up, "I have a replacement on its way. And you don't even know where the Verizon store is down here?"
Seth shook his head no, "I don't need to know as long as you or google knows."
I made a face at him, "I don't have an upgrade." He turned toward the door, "did I ask you."
I stepped outside locking the door behind me. "Can I talk you out of this?" When he shook his head I sighed, "do you want me to drive?"
He shrugged, "shit it doesn't really matter."
Walking past him I hit the button unlocking my SUV before stepping off the porch in the pouring rain. Once we were both safely in my car I looked over at him, "you picked the worst weather to decide to be heroic in."
Seth pulled his hoodie off his head, "I know I'm going to need a fucking boat to get back to the airport."
Pulling out of the driveway I watched Seth flip through the radio stations, "you're not going to find anything. I usually Bluetooth my music from my phone but ya know."
He cut his eyes up at me, "no what happened?"
I made a face at him causing him to laugh, turning back to the road I grinned thankfully for the rain for keeping my attention off of him.
The store was about 15 minutes from my house and as we pulled up Seth pulled his hoodie up.
Glancing over at him I sighed sitting back, "ok this is your last chance to back out."
Seth cut his eyes at me, "if you don't get your ass out of this car." I bit my lip, maybe I was in a coma, they say you have some weird dreams when you were knocked out.
Watching as he stepped out I met up with him at the door. As he opened it I was afraid of how this whole ordeal was going to turn out, would he be recognized? There was only one lady in the store, she was a middle-aged lady who was currently staring at Seth as if he had grown two heads. I laughed to myself. She didn't know who he was, hell she looked like she was more worried he was about to rob the place.
"How can I help you?" She looked over her glasses at me and I looked back at Seth unsure of what to say. "My girl here broke her phone and we need to get it replaced."
As we sat down at the desk the lady rolled her eyes at me, "are you prepaid or contract." I frowned at her as I told her contract and gave her my information to access my account.
After several seconds the lady looked at me, " you have insurance, you can file a claim online." I hated the insurance word right now and was getting ready to tell her exactly where she could stick her insurance when I felt Seth's hand rest on my knee.
"We won't be doing an insurance claim we are replacing the phone today, whatever the newest one is with the same gig," he looked over at me, "you have enough memory." I nodded yes unable to talk as his hand was now caressing my knee sending my thoughts into a rambling mess.
"That is going to cost a lot of money."
Seth stared at the lady, "ok and..."
The lady stared at him, "we don't take checks," she said as she stood up to go get the phone from the back.
"I'm bout to kick that bitchs ass."
I looked over smiling, "I know I'm giving her a bad review."
He shook his head at me laughing as she came back. It didn't take long to activate my new phone And thankfully all of my info was saved to the cloud.
When she told us the total I looked at Seth shaking my head but he didn't flinch as he swiped his card. I wish I could blow that much money and not bat an eye but hell I stressed over every little penny. As we stood up the lady told us about the survey we would be getting and I couldn't help but laugh watching the look Seth gave her. She was not getting a 10, hell if zero was an option she would get that.
The rain had slacked up as we walked back to the car, cranking it up I looked over at Seth and he grinned, "are you happy now?"
I frowned at him, "you really didn't have to do this, I was never mad at you. Your guard...yes, the delivery guy...yes, the insurance people...yes, but never you."
Seth arched his brow at me and I had to hurry and put the car in reverse to keep from turning completely red. When gave me that look and it had me feeling all types of ways.
"You care if I stop and get a drink at Sonic."
Seth shook his head no pulling his hoodie back up, "no, you are good." I decided it would be faster and safer to just go through the drive-through. There was a car in front of us so I dug in my console for my loose change. Seth was watching me making me nervous, "what," I asked.
He shook his head as I pulled up handing the girl a wad of ones thanking her as she handed us our drinks. As I pulled off Seth tucked money back in my console,
"What are you doing? You are not paying me back for a soda. I mean I owe you, you just bought me a phone."
Seth shrugged at me turning some song that had come on the radio up. I made a face, ok ignore me hell. Turning on my road I saw Brooke had still not made it home. What the hell was she doing. It was awkward as we exited my car. I had no clue if was he leaving, should I invite him in or what?
As we exited the car I ended up not even having to speak to him, he walked to the front porch sitting on the bench texting while I fumbled to but my key in the lock. Once inside I sighed turning on lights as he followed behind me sitting on the couch.
"So is this like your good deed of the year?"
Seth shook his head laughing, "what? Do you think I'm an ass normally?"
I shook my head looking down, " I'm just trying to understand."
Seth leaned back, "so were you just in New York for New Years' or what?"
I rolled my eyes at his change of subject but nodded, "yeah both me and my roommate have birthdays coming up and we are both graduating so our parents surprised us."
He nodded, "did you like New York?"
I shook my head no, "not all, too many people. Brooke is currently trying to talk me into moving up there but I would be stuck in my apartment all day."
He laughed, "you would get used to it, I'm usually there once a month on business."
I looked over at him, "I just can't, that's not me."
I had to look away, the way he was watching me I felt as if I was being graded. "So when is your birthday?"
Looking up I shrugged wondering where that had come from, "February 13."
He nodded, "so you're what 21, 22?"
Nodding I sat back, "yeah turning 21."
Seth arched his brow at me, " you going to turn up or what?"
I laughed before I could stop myself, "me turn up, not likely."
He shook his head, "girl you need to get out more."
Rolling my eyes I made a face at him, "you really should talk to Brooke, ya'll can start a Kennedy is boring club."
My phone vibrated so I glanced down seeing it was done and was just finishing downloading my apps. "I have a concert in Shreveport," Seth said as he scrolled through his phone, "I think it's on Friday the 6th. I'll get you and your friend tickets for yalls birthday."
I started shaking my head and he arched his brow at me, " you need to learn the word yes, or thank you, or something besides no."
I looked down feeling my face flush. I over-analyzed everything and I was trying to decide if he just insulted me or what.
He took a deep breath, "Kennedy chill ok, you're going to make me have to hit a blunt."
I cut my eyes up at him and he grinned at me "I do know the word thank you, and if I haven't told you yet thank you, I don't deserve this. I don't know."
Seth looked at me, "you overthink things, you might need to hit a blunt with me." I shook my head and he laughed, "I just wanted to help you, like I said I like challenges. I don't need it to be easy I just need it to be worth it."
Standing on my porch I watched as Seth's taillights faded into the distance. Instantly I felt a little sad. We had sat and talked for over an hour before he had to leave. Turning around I walked back into the house heading to my room.Brooke had text me telling me they had stopped at another mutual friend's house and that they shouldn't be much longer but I really didn't care at that point. Seth's leaving had left a void that I wasn't sure how to replace. We had exchanged numbers and he had told me he would be calling me soon to get me my tickets to his Shreveport concert. I still wasn't a hundred percent sure that I wasn't dreaming, things like this just didn't happen in real life.Sitting on my bed I looked around the room and wondered what I was going to do after graduation. Seth and I had talked more about Brooke's wild idea of moving to New York and he supported the idea telling me I needed to get out more and assured me he wouldn't let anything happen to us
Walking out the front door I shook my head watching our driver load our bags into the SUV. Seth had insisted that he hire a driver to pick us up and drive us down. His concert was the week before our birthdays so the timing had been close to perfect.I had barely been able to sleep at all the night before and try as I might I was unable to sleep on our ride down. Brooke on the other hand was knocked out. Rolling my eyes I reread the text conversation Seth and I had last night. We were arriving on a Friday, his concert was Saturday, and we would return home Sunday.Pulling out my tablet I started working on an essay for school. I had thought taking my college classes online would be less stressful but instead, I had a huge list of deadlines and little to no instruction. I had wanted to bring my laptop but knew it would have been impracticable although easier to use.A couple of towns over we stopped through McDonalds for breakfast. This woke Brooke up long enough
I woke up the next morning squinting in the harsh morning light. Grabbing my phone I saw it was almost 11. Groaning I headed to the bathroom before walking out to see if Brooke was up.She was indeed up sitting on the couch eating chips. "God I thought you'd never get up, I'm starving."I nodded at her, "I know I couldn't sleep last night. You want room service or are you going to make me go get dressed?"Brooke gave me a look and I already knew her answer. Groaning I turned to head back into the room. I threw some jeans on with a shirt before I brushed my hair. I was not ready to mess with makeup, I would tackle that when we got back. Seth's concert started at 9 but we had to be there at 8 so I had all day to get ready.Walking in the living area Brooke was waiting for me. She had looked up a Chinese place we had wanted to try. The only downfall about not driving was we had to call an uber. I wasn't big on them but Brooke told me I would just have to get
Walking into our room I collapsed on the couch. "I'm tired and crunk all at the same time."Brooke made a face, "I'm about to take a shower, put my pj's on, and lay in the bed watching tv."I nodded at her, "ok, might as well make the most of it before we have to go back tomorrow huh."She laughed, "God I think you are starting to rub off on me."Watching her walk to her room and shut the door I went to my own and changed into some shorts and a tank top before twisting my hair back up in its messy bun. I thought about taking my makeup off but decided against it heading back to the main living room and turning on the tv. Part of me wanted to go watch tv with Brooke but we had opposite ideas of what was good on tv. She was a reality tv junkie where I wasn't a fan.Flipping the channels I stopped on Family Guy knowing Brooke hated it. Stretching out I scanned through Facebook seeing that Brooke had tagged us at the Concert. Shaking m
Monday turned out to be a day straight from hell. Brooke and I worked from the minute we got there until it was time to leave at 5. All I really wanted to do was go home, take a bath, and go to bed. That would never happen. I had several projects due for school and two lectures I was behind on listening to. I had assumed online was at your own pace, I had been sadly mistaken. On the drive home I kept trying to think of how awesome it would be in May when I had my degree. I had a feeling this whole week would be hellish. My birthday was Saturday and Brooke's Monday. We had planned on going out but right now I didn't know if I could make it.Brooke looked over at me sensing my inner frustration. "You stress too much. Call Seth, he always puts a smile on your face."I rolled my eyes at her grinning, "you need new material."She shrugged, "it's true. So have you talk to him since the other night?"I shook my head no. I was tempted to
I awoke to the sound of my door being swung wide open and bouncing off the wall. Groaning I peeked my head out from under the covers, "Brooke what the hell."She completely ignored my reaction climbing in the bed beside me forcing me to scoot over. I knew she hadn't been awake long just from the mere fact her hair was sticking straight up. I tried to squeeze my eyes back closed but her moving was m
Christine and Sarah were the only two reasons I was keeping my calm and not cussing Brooke out as we headed to Dallas. I had decided to sit in the back with Sarah just to give myself some space. Brooke knew I was mad at her but her attitude was better to ask for forgiveness rather than permission. In reality, I knew I would probably end up having fun but right now I felt the car close in around me.
Brooke and I ended up staying up all night talking, she was on cloud nine and I was still in shock myself. In less than three months I had met both Seth Greer and Dutch Creed. My coma theory was looking better and better by the day. The next morning we were all tired as we drove home. As much as Sarah and Christine had enjoyed themselves was as much as they missed their kids, Brooke and I on the other hand found ourselves going home to homework.
