Strangers with memories

I keep my head on the broken steering shaft for a while before suddenly remembering that I was trying to track down Adrian’s location so I take out my phone and launch my snap chat

From my Snapchat, I realize that Adrian’s location is around Evergreen resting place, the cemetery that Embers late sister was buried three years ago.

I start my car to check impact that my anger issue has on the steering and I realize that the car still drives fine , just that it feels horrible and the horn honks when i turn so everyone thinks i'm honking at them but apart from that , every other thing is fine.

I set out for the resting place hoping that the journey there will as smooth as possible and no one will recognize me and put me up on social

Media because I can’t promise that things won’t get ugly with Adrian .

I finally get to the resting place after driving for more than forty five minutes , so I park my car and I head straight to where Embers twin sister was buried three years ago.

"Adrian sawyer" I call out to him and he freezes in shock, typical of somebody that has lots of skeleton in their cupboard.

"Yo double dealer" I call out loudly this time around because that is exactly the vibe that I am getting from the whole situation.

"Brian?" He asks with an inquiry tone as his eyes wandered back before he recovers with a nervous twitch.

"Surprised?"I inquire but he gives me a dazed look of bewilderment

"What are you doing here?"He asks

"What am I doing here?" He scoff walking around Adrian like a predator examining its prey.

“You are supposed to be in the hospital now so I am surprised as to what brought you to this part of the city” he points out and I

"After searching the whole of silver city to see for myself how you are able to live with yourself after being a double dealer over the past two weeks" I express in anger but he only scratches his head slightly pretending to be ignorant of what is going on .

" is this about what happened in the hospital with Rhea?” He tries to change the subject which I find more than disrespectful but I am really curious as to how long he can go with acting clueless about what is going on

"Not really, but it is part of it"I answer carefully studying his body language as he sighs and touches the base of his neck, something that he does when he is extremely nervous.

"Honestly speaking, you just misunderstood me and I get that I have the kind of impression of an unsupportive friend, but everything that happened is one hell of a misunderstanding” He starts to defend himself while I watch him in horror

"I did?"I ask him because at this point , Adrian us starting to get me confused more like we are both not on the same page.

"Yeaaa, you did" he answers almost immediately

“can you go ahead to explain yourself because I came all the way here to give you that benefit of doubt before jumping into any conclusion" I say folding my arms together.

“I had no idea of how to start talking to you again after communication was strained between both of us but…..”he trails off

“May I ask how ‘communication’ got strained between us?”I inquire and he pauses for a while, as if his words got stuck in his throat

“I didn’t react properly to the news of your engagement with Ember and honestly, it wasn’t because I didn’t want to be happy for you, the whole engagement news just came to me as a huge shock because I wasn’t Expecting that you were ever going to have anything to do with Ember”he answers going back to the event that Happened over the past two weeks

“Of course you didn’t expect to see me with Ember after taking advantage of her innocence and sleeping with her under which ever condition it is that you did it and then have the news of Embers engagement delivered to you a night after”I accuse in a cold and distant voice watching as his mouth drops open in shock

“You’re shocked?”I scoff watching him stand rotted in his position

“There is really no need to be shocked neither do you need to ask yourself the question of how your secret came to my knowledge”I inform increasing the sizzling amount of electricity that must have been traveling through is body from how shocked he is is at my sudden discovery

“It will interest you to know that not just me,but the whole of silver city is aware that the woman that I am getting married to is pregnant with my best friends child” I announce but he keeps on s staring at me wide eyed

“Ev…eryBo…dy kn…ows ?” his words breakup and all I could make out from what he just said are stuttering sounds.

“One minute , I was in my engagement hall thinking I was getting engaged to the woman of my dreams…….infact, I even got engaged to her”

“The next minute, we were rushing her to the hospital and after waiting to hear the progress report on her health after hours of being worried sick about her,I find out on national television that she is pregnant and of course the thorn pregnancy report and a video recording of Ember admitting that you are her Baby’s father pops up”I express with my my face etching in sadness

“I won’t ask what you take me for because obviously, you think that I am such a big joke but how can it be Ember of all girls?” I ask hinting closer to him

“That is not the case at all”he tries to explain but his voice becomes shaky and his breathing pattern becomes irregular.

“The one night stand happened on a Thursday night and the next day the news of your arranged marriage to Ember pops up…” he trails off

“Let’s assume that the whole one night stand thing happened before the news of me getting engaged to Ember came up ,why didn’t you feel the need to give me a first hand knowledge?” I ask him and watch him as he tries to form words in vain.

“According to the pregnancy report, Ember is two weeks pregnant and in those two weeks,You had every opportunity to come out to tell me about everything that was going on if you respected me enough, but you didn’t so let’s not dwell soo much on that”I refuse to listen to him

“At least, allow me explain my side of the story” he tries to defend himself.

“……isn’t that the reason why you came to find me?”he asks as I inch closer to him almost faltering

“I came to find you for so many reasons”I express with pain in my voice

“first of all, I am not the kind of friend that will see something online about you and just believe it without consulting you about it so I left the hospital to search for you hoping to hear the truth from you” I start

“Secondly, I was hopping that everything that I saw online will be one hell of a mix up and everything will be fine after you clarify it, but right now I feel really stupid for still believing in you despite everything I saw online” I blame myself

“on my way here I decided to analyze everything that has happened in the past two weeks and somehow everything seemed to fit in more so you are not even denying it”I say with a deep and desolate sigh

“I can’t deny it because something actually happened between Ember and I” he says but that doesn’t make me feel any better

“That was all I needed you to say and since that is done, let’s analyze your act of betrayal” I say with sadness flitting across my face

“But…..”he tries to intervene but I cut him off

“I don’t need to hear your excuses because your actions over the past one week has clearly demonstrated how you feel about me and the friendship that I thought we shared” I express with sadness gathering in my eyes and filling it

“You knew exactly what you were doing to me, you just didn’t give a fuck” I express raising my voice and pointing an accusatory finger at him.

“I just didn’t know how to come to you with the truth that was why I didn’t say anything”he tires to justify his actions but I stop him from going any further.

“truths hurt and secret kill but you Wanna know what the saddest part about everything that happened is?” I ask with a dramatic pause

“It is calling you my best friend instead of another fake friend”I pronounce a sting of melancholy and confusion.

“I am not a fake friend I swear and sleeping with Ember only happened in a moment of weakness” I tries to explain but his defensive stance despite everything that Is happening so far is just oddly upsetting so I throw a punch at him.

“Ouch” he yells in pain as my fist makes contact with his cheeks staring at me like he can’t believe what just happened

“You don’t even deserve to mention her name” I glare at him as I continue to hit him,but he just absorbs the blows and it’s entirety so I get off him

“I hope you will able to live with yourself after what you have done to me because we are not friends again, just strangers with memories” I inform after finally letting him go and he slumps on the ground

“ strangers with memories?” He pronounced as his hands fly to his chest, but I just turn my back on him and walk away without looking back.
