Chapter 4

“Well, it looks like we will be needing another breakfast for you”, the man’s voice rang loudly in Lily’s head.

How on earth was her one night stand her new boss! She followed his gaze to the beignets that had fallen out of her bag when it dropped from her hand in shock.

She bent down and picked up her bag and the contents that had fallen out except the beignets.

“ I didn’t know that _”

“_I’m your boss and my name is Ryder Banks”, he cut her short and stretched out a hand to her.

She walked over to his desk and received his hand, hers trembling and cold. She wanted to say something but her tongue was tied, she couldn’t get herself to say anything.

“You look like you’ve seen a ghost miss”, he said to her.

“We’ll it’s just that _”, she cut herself short “No sir, it’s nothing.”

“Those beignets, I’m sure you would’ve loved them. I love beignets.”

Lily wanted to say something but again, her words failed her. What was most interesting to her was the fact that Ryder’s acting was so perfect, she would almost believe that the one night stand was a dream if not that her vagina still ached when she walked.

“Well welcome to BANKS CORP!” He said heartily. This certainly couldn’t be the man with no emotions that had shared the same bed with her last night, took her virginity and ran off in the morning. This should be his twin , she thought. Most certainly.

“I am the second son of two sons of my parents and I just got this job as president in place of my older brother who is still in a competition with me for it so I’ll be needing all the help I can to secure it. Hope I can count on you?”

“Yes sir” she almost whispered. He was certainly not a twin then.

If Ryder was truly the man she had spent the past hours with, why did he have to pretend now, not like there was anyone else in the office with them.

She glanced at the phone on his desk. It had the same gold rim with the phone her one night stand had and the suitcase? Exactly the same. It definitely was him.

“Did you hear me”, his voice pulled her spirit back to the room.

“Sir?” 

“ I said I was going to get breakfast. I don’t usually eat with anyone but I’m guessing my face had scared you and you lost your breakfast so you could join me downstairs.”

“ Oh um_”, she stuttered,” No thank you sir. I’m fine”

“ Alright.” He stared at her, “ Well you can start work officially tomorrow. It seems like you had quite a night.”

She could swear that she saw him try to suppress a giggle,” Yes sir. I’ll start tomorrow.”  “I had a bad night “, she added.

“At least you got beignets this morning. Beignets make everything better “, he smiled.

Lily wanted to shove the pen in her hand down his throat. So beignets were the reward for sex?? He was clearly making fun of her, she blinked back angry tears.

“No sir. I’m glad that I didn’t have them.”

“Interesting” his eyes trailed down her shoulders “ When you start work from tomorrow, I’ll like your hair in a bun please. The color is catchy.”

“Yes sir.”

“Your office is the one right before this one. I’m not always around but you will take directions from Jane.”

“Yes sir”

“Jane said you’re 21”

“Yes sir”

“Do you have any siblings? Family?”

“No sir”, she answered, “ My parents are late, I lived in an orphanage for two years before I set out on my own. The closest person to a family I have is my best friend, Ashley.”

He didn’t respond for a long while. He was flipping through a file , giving Lily enough time to actually study his face.

His eyes had a sharpness to them, they were swift and focused, calculating, like he always knew how to handle any situation brought before him.

His nose looked strong and straight. It was so defined, his nostrils were very tiny slits. His brown hair swept to the right in a stylish fashion, shining from the layers of lotion she was sure he always used.

His lips were full, adding to his assertive appearance. She embraced flashbacks of kissing them, just moments ago.

He looked up at her finally,” That should be all for today, I’ll give instructions to Jane later today on the things you’ll need to do. Any questions you ever have, tell them to her and she’ll relay them to me.”

“Yes sir”, she replied. Although, she wondered why she couldn’t just take a few steps to his office and ask him her questions since he was going to be a few feet away than Jane who was three floors below.

“I’ll get a cleaner to clean that”, he said pointing over to the beignets.” You can leave now”

Lily nodded as she felt her cheeks flush red. Those were the same beignets she had refused from him in the morning, only for her to pack it in her bag when he had left. How embarrassing!

She turned to leave, walking as swiftly as possible. She wished she could run even. The office was so large that the door seemed so far away.

She turned the door knob immediately she  reached the door and disappeared right behind it. It was only she was out of Ryder’s office that she realized she had been holding her breath.

She drew lots of air into her lungs before she finally found her feet again. Her heart raced wildly as she thought of the drama her life was about to become.

At her new job she had already had sex with her boss? She knew it was going to be difficult to play the pretend card he was playing for long and she didn’t want to bring up what they had either.

The elevator chimed and she got in, she felt choked up and couldn’t wait to breathe fresh air outside.

Once she was outside she reached for her phone in her bag. She needed to see Ash immediately.

Luckily she had gotten a text.

Only, the text wasn’t from Ash, it was from an unknown number. It was written in bold letters.

‘I FOLLOWED YOU LAST NIGHT, I KNOW WHO YOU ARE. WATCH YOUR BACK!’
