Dmitry wasn’t lying when he said he would be in late. When I came home last night, the house was empty. I placed the envelope full of money on his dresser. He’d given me enough money for a life time. I hated taking charity from anyone, but Dmitry made it hard to say no. He swopped in at all the right times. Exactly when I needed him.

I showered, washed my hair, and pulled out a small book I borrowed from the school library a few weeks ago.

I laid across a chaise sofa in his small library. I found that of all the room in his house, this was the one I liked the best. It had a chaise chair large enough to comfortably fall asleep. The longest wall in the room was full of books. I already had my eye on the next book I intended on reading.

I lay there going from chapter to chapter as the night grew closer to morning and the only time I heard from him was a single text. “Don’t worry. I’ll be ready to take you to your interview in the morning.”

I replied with a simple, “Thanks.”
