Chapter 5

The funny part was that she made the second route for a completely different purpose and now it was coming to very good use.

She smiled to herself as she walked through the turns.

She finally got to her room and got ready for work, noting that today she had to just bear with her parents before leaving for work and then she'd see them again later by the time she returned from work.

She just hoped that they didn't decide to show up in her office once again because no one would stop her from just outrightly screaming at them once things got too much.

Eleonora finished her usual morning routine and had a shower before quickly drying up and slipping into her retro dark blue suit pants with a matching dark blue turtleneck long-sleeve shirt.

With some diamonds spluttered here and there but not too much for an official outfit, she wore her jacket and snatched her eight-inch stiletto heels from the floor where she placed them.

Wearing her shoes and making her hair into a simple sleeked back ponytail, Eleonora adorned her ears with stud diamond earrings and sprayed her cologne before looking at herself and nodding her head in satisfaction with her appearance.

She walked to her room and just when she reached the door, she remembered that she left her wristwatch and her phone so she went back to get them.

"Got it,"

Eleonora whispered to herself as she turned around to walk out of her room and straight down the stairs, into the kitchen where she usually waited for Josephine to finish cooking so that they could eat together.

She walked into the kitchen and instead of seeing the long black hair she was used to, Eleonora saw chestnut brown hair as she stopped.

There was only one person who had that colour of hair in the house at the moment and that person was none other than her mother.

She looked around stunned and saw that the kitchen had used items here and there but overall it looked clean.

Rosaline felt a burning hole at the back of her head so she decided to check it out she turned around coming face to face with her daughter who looked surprised by everything she was seeing.

"What are you doing?!"

Entering the kitchen, Eleonora was stunned to see her mother messing around with kitchen utensils as she moved from one place to another.

Well, maybe messing around was not quite the right word but that was what it looked like to the young woman because she had never seen her mother in an actual kitchen her whole life.

It was such an odd scene that she just had to stand still for a while as she watched the woman clang the pots against each other.

Her mother had always been the typical classy lady who never ventured into the kitchen because the chefs and maids were there to take care of all her needs.

Eleonora was even sure the lady didn't know to turn on a gas stove so what was she doing in her kitchen?

The young lady had to take a step back and actually rearrange her thoughts before forcing some words out.

"What are you doing here, mother?"

Eleanora squinted her eyes at her

mother trying to figure her out.

Her mother stared back at her with slightly widened eyes as though she wasn't expecting her to be here.

"She's making breakfast for me obviously," Mr Vito answered Eleonora as he walked into the kitchen and walked round the island in the centre.

"Since when do you know how to cook? Wait, don't answer that. I don't care," she huffed.

Eleonora wanted to smack herself in the face for asking such a question but you couldn't blame the young woman as she really didn't know her mother could cook.

She didn't want to deal with the early morning drama so she turned around and went to sit in the dining room while she waited for Josephine.

Josephine walked into the dining room a few minutes later with plates in her hands and Eleonora had a full-blown smile on her face as she watched the woman place the plates neatly on the table.

"Sorry, I'm late. I had to take a quick shower after preparing breakfast," Josephine explained as she sat down next to the young woman.

"I have told you and will keep telling you, you do not have to apologize for anything, mum, and besides, I totally understand so please do not apologize again or I will have to rethink my sleep schedule,"

Eleonora smirked as she said the last part because she knew she had struck somewhere deep and that Josephine would go all mama bear mode on her in just a few seconds.

She slowly counted in her head.

One. Two. And three.

"YOUNG LADY, ARE YOU TRYING TO BLACKMAIL ME?" Josephine's eyes glared at Eleonora as she belted out.

The young lady was unbothered as she simply shrugged her shoulders unapologetically.

"Mayyybe." The woman dragged as she purposely wanted to annoy Josephine

What caught her off guard was that the woman was just watching her as she arranged her cutleries to eat.

"I know what you are trying to do but I have to say, it won't work, Missy. Now, eat up and go to work,"

Eleonora feigned hurt as she clenched her chest.

"I am innocent in this. And why are you sending me packing, mother?

I did nothing wrong," she pouted.

Eleonora stared at Josephine with innocent eyes but the woman was trying hard not to fall into temptation because her puppy eyes had their way of melting her heart.

"It is definitely not working this time so hurry up, girl. I gotta clean up the house soon and you need to go to work soon enough after all you mentioned that you don't like going late. Whatever happened to that, huh?"

Josephine looked at Eleonora who just cleared her throat while concentrating on her food and just when Josephine thought that the lady had finally given up, she just had to prove her wrong once again.

"When my favourite person in the whole world cooks for me and also makes time for breakfast with me, I have all the reasons to go late to work and besides don't forget. I am the boss," Eleonora smirked just as Josephine face palmed herself.

There was no point in correcting the cheeky young woman as she had thick skin that could shatter knives made of steel.

Josephine smacked the woman behind her head and Eleonora rubbed the spot with a pout on her face.

"Ouch Jossy that hurt," she sighed.

The woman shrugged while putting food on her plate and answering with a nonchalant comment.

"I know,"

"Hmph!"

Eleonora disregarded the action that happened earlier because she knew there was no use pursuing a case with the elder woman.

After serving the amount of food she thought she could stomach, she focused on the food in front of her and grabbed her cutlery to dig in but just as the food got to the entrance of her mouth the door opened and she looked up at the entrance.

Of course, she sent the food in her mouth as she looked at the commotion happening or about to happen in front of her.

"Don't eat yet!"

"Don't eat yet!" Rosaline rushed in from the kitchen as she quickly placed the food she prepared on the table.

Eleonora stared at the woman in shock as she swallowed the food in her mouth even after her mother interrupted.

She was seated in her luxury dining room which had its walls drowned with a pristine white paint with a few intricates of golden strikes as ornaments.

There were a few ancient paintings and artefacts hanging on the walls giving the room a deep rich feeling.

The huge chandelier dangling from the ceiling directly above the long oak table brought rays of light over the place.

Eleonora thought she could at least have her breakfast in peace but it seemed she was wrong about that.

"What is this, mother?" Eleonora gritted, sounding irritated already.

"I thought father said you were preparing the meal for him? What is it doing on the dining table in front of me then?"

Eleonora asked again, without giving Rosaline time to answer the first one before firing another one.

"I was not preparing the meal for him. I was making it for you, on the contrary,"

Rosaline muttered as she felt nervous around her daughter.

Her father walked in at this moment and stopped next to her mother.

"Like I asked before, since when did you know how to cook and besides, are you attempting to poison me? I thought I already said yes to the betrothal and accepted my fate or was that not good enough for you and father?"

Eleonora stared at her mother and father straight on as the man was trying to contain himself from just blowing up.
