Alpha Dominic Knight...

Dominic's POV

"F*uck off!" My voice echoed in the empty hall.

The maid shivered with fear, and the tray fell from her hands, crashing to the floor.

"How many times do I need to tell you I don't want to be distracted at this hour?" My eyes glowed red, and my dominating pheromones almost made her choke on the fear.

"But Alpha, you haven't eaten anything since yesterday,” she replied, her eyes welling with pending tears.

I released a deep sigh, realizing I’d scared the poor woman for no reason. I worked to calm myself. My wolf, Carden, roared furiously within me. "Leave," I said to the maid, needing her to get out of my sight. My temper and the aggression were getting out of hand. I needed to keep my dominating hormones in check, and I’d failed to do so.

It was not having a mate by my side. That’s what was making me act like an animal, what was allowing Carden to override me, to make impulsive decisions in my place.

I turned to look at the painting of my beautiful late luna, Isabella, smiling brightly. It had been three years since she died in a massacre initiated by her father. The thought of it made my blood boil.

She had fought for our borders as a soldier, and the pain of losing her was still unbearable. I couldn't forget her scent and the way her eyes shone whenever I kissed her.

I had promised myself I would always keep her in my memory and that I wouldn’t find another mate. But keeping that promise was becoming impossible.

Isabella and I had chosen each other on our eighteen birthdays. But she hadn’t been my destined mate, nor I hers. And now that she was gone, my wolf was growing impatient. Carden needed to find his destined mate. He wouldn’t tolerate remaining single while his real mate was alive.

For me, things were different. I didn't want to break the promise I’d made. I would never love anyone as much I loved Isabella.

However, to ensure the safety of my pack and to keep my sanity, I needed to find a mate. My wolf needed it. If I didn’t mate by the next full moon, Carden would overtake me and go on a killing spree to release his aggression. As it was, there were already times where I had to take my anger out on the prisoners to calm Carden.

Even fucking the mistresses and different betas didn't seem to help. I was never satisfied, and the voices in my head never ceased.

Still seething, I kicked the door of my bedroom open and walked outside. The soldiers standing guard flinched. They’d grown scared of my temper. No one in the pack seemed happy. All were on edge, fearing my next move. All prayed I’d find a mate soon.

"Alpha Dominic," the mistress said with wide eyes when she found me standing at her door. I had f*ucked her senseless just a few hours before, and she didn't want me again. I was too cruel to her.

She kept a neutral expression, but I sensed her fear. Carden sensed her fear, and it only excited him more.

At the same time, she wasn’t what he wanted. "Argh!” I slammed the door to her chamber in frustration.

I slumped into the chair beside me. My only chance to find a mate was at the yearly ball organized by the Stone Moon Pack. Though I didn't like the Stone Moon Pack’s fat, arrogant alpha, almost all alphas, betas and gammas attended with their beautiful daughters. After a year of living in aggression and denial, I had to admit I had no choice but to go.

The night of the ball, the carriages were prepared and filled with gifts. I got dressed in my best clothes. Between my cologne and my blond hair set with gel, I would attract every female I came across.

On the path to the Stone Moon pack, my wolf began behaving weirdly. He took over, making me growl and shift halfway into my wolf’s form without any control. I hurried out of the carriage to ensure the safety of my members.

Then I stopped resisting and allowed the full shift into my magnificent giant wolf. I was successor of the moon goddess, which lent me a powerful demeanor different from most. No alpha could compete against me. My paws pushed the ground beneath me, and I let my wolf run free in the woods. After an hour of hunting innocent foxes, my wolf finally calmed.

The nearby sound of flowing water met my ears. With slow steps, I padded toward the noise. A sweet smell drifted on the air, an almost maddening and addictive scent. I ran after it like it was an oasis in the desert. Carden’s aggression calmed, replaced by a different sort of excitement. I jumped on a large rock that stood over a body of water and found the most beautiful girl I had ever seen.

Her long hair draped over her shoulders, and she appeared to be entranced, or maybe soothing herself. Her soft pink lips were parted, and her eyes were closed. She was half immersed in the water, with the other half exposed, granting me a wonderful view of her beautiful breasts. Her pink nipples were erect, and I wanted to shift and suck on them. My wolf wanted her more than anything in the world.

Carden circled within my mind, filled with excitement. The sweet scent captured him.

Mate...

The sight of bruises on her body angered me, though. Who could do that to her?

My wolf growled. I froze at the sound.

Her eyes opened. For a second, she paused, peering at my giant wolf. She looked equally as mesmerized by him as I was by her. Then she scented the air. She could smell my scent, too. As mates, we both released pheromones that would attract one another in the most erotic way.

I padded forward with a thought of touching her, but her expression changed to one of fear. Next thing I knew, she shifted to a beautiful, small wolf and ran. I couldn't take my eyes off her, but my wolf panicked when she almost vanished from his sight.

I couldn't lose my mate after finally having found her, so I followed. Compared to me, she was slow, but she didn't look back. Not once.

Instead, she ran until she reached what looked like a secret passage into a palace. A palace? My senses came back, and I realized where she’d gone. She was a member of the Stone Moon Pack.

“Hide for now," I said, shifting back to my human form. "I will make you mine soon enough.”

I entered the palace through the main entrance, then went to the guest room. The soldiers were already waiting there. I mind-linked with my beta, telling him to meet me. The maids appeared jittery, likely afraid I would snap at them.

Instead, I smiled. Confused looks passed over their faces.

"Why don't you all go and check the place?" I said, straightening my clothes as I looked into the mirror.

"Yes... Yes, Alpha." They ran from the chamber.

My beta, Alexander, entered the room and greeted me.

"Alpha, you look in a good mood today." He smiled, noticing my happy demeanor.

"Yes, because I found a luna for the pack," I replied.

"What? Really! That's great news." Beta Alexander looked both shocked and pleased. "Who is she?" he asked.

"Don't know yet. But I’m sure she’ll join the ball. Even if she doesn’t, my wolf can smell her from a distance."

"Yes, even mine can smell Carolina,” said Beta Alexander, blushing when mentioning his mate.

"We will leave as soon as I find her. So don't open too many bags," I told him.

The beta nodded and left me to rest. The pack was finally going to have a luna. It was indeed great news for them.
