KALILA POV
CRESCENT MOON PACKI frowned as I heard the voice repeatedly in my head. It sounded near yet far away.I staggered towards the door and halted as I passed by a vanity mirror.Trudging towards it dazedly, my hands came up to my face. My eyes rounded, and whoever was in the mirror made the same movement as me."No," I murmured. Then, I let out a loud shriek running back to the bed.Whoever was staring at me in the mirror wasn't me!I had caramel skin, a typical round face with dark-brown hair, and an upturned nose, but the person I had seen in the mirror was a dark-haired beauty with alabaster skin. Freckles dotted her face, and it didn't take away the beauty. She had a cute button nose and rose-bud lips. Her cheekbones were high. She was the most beautiful person I had seen besides Millicent, but it seemed she was me.How was it possible?!"Kalila,""Who are you?""I am your wolf, Nova," The voice repeated, clearer this time. It was then I realised she was speaking in my head."What is a wolf, and where the hell am I?"The door opened, and someone burst into the room. I gripped the duvet, clutching it to my chest as if to use it as protection.A chocolate skin woman came into the room holding a large bowl in her hands. "L-u-Luna Dahlia!" She squealed.I winced as her voice pierced my eardrums; it was too loud.I was never sensitive to sound until now."You are awake!" She said again. "This good news needs to be shared with the Alpha." As soon as she said it, she dashed out of the room."What's going on?" I groaned, rubbing my temple as I sensed a headache brewing."As I said, Kalila, you are in the werewolf world and Crescent Moon pack, to be precise."I shook my head and shut my eyes tightly to assimilate what Nova was saying as she continued. Nothing seems to make sense.I was a werewolf, but how didn't I know that until now?I tried recalling all my years in TRINITY ORPHANAGE and DANDELION ACADEMY, but I couldn't remember ever exhibiting any animalistic behaviour.More questions wandered into my head, but it was blank, and I got no answers. But then Nova wouldn't lie to me, would she?Goddess Selene had told me to trust her and that she'd lead me.My eyes wandered around the large room I was in to see if I could recognise the environment, but I couldn't.Nothing seemed familiar, and it seemed I was in a master suite."You accepted the goddess's mission; it is why you woke up here." Nova began calmly. It was as if she knew how confused I was and was patiently explaining so I wouldn't go crazy.I sighed, staring at the bland paintings on the wall. It was an eyesore, and I wonder who in their right mind would stay long in this room without dying of boredom. Also, it exuded some coldness, and I guess whoever room it was, they didn't like lights."Protect the Alpha. That's is the mission."Nova had mentioned the Alpha was the most powerful werewolf in the pack. He was a leader, and everyone often harkened to him, but how could I protect someone like that if he was already strong?"First and foremost, you must overlook his meals starting today.""Wouldn't it be dangerous to overlook someone's influential meal without even being part of the family?" I asked."Trust me, Kalila. It is even more dangerous if you do nothing." Said Nova.I nodded. I didn't need to ask what she meant by that.Even as the time was ticking too fast and I was silently counting the three months duration I was given by the goddess if I failed to complete my missions. It was still my first, and I didn't know the rest, but I'd be as quick as possible. Yet, I knew it wouldn't be as easy as that.I accepted my fate already, and dying again for real wasn't part of what was on my wish list.As hard as everything seemed, I needed to do it. I needed to return to the human world and know why Millicent killed me even though I did nothing wrong to her.I climbed down from my bed and walked towards the door; I gripped the handle, trying it.I let out a breath as it opened. I slipped out of the room and walked down the narrow hallway; I heard voices in each room I passed by and halted as one caught my attention.I guess it led to the kitchen because various aromas wafted through my nostrils as I stayed by the door before opening it."Good morning Luna." I shrieked, slamming my back into the door as several voices said.I saw over twenty people-men and women- in drab clothing and aprons tied about their waists."I-I'm sorry." I stuttered. "I shouldn't be here."I tried leaving the room even though it wasn't what I wanted, but how would I stay in a room with over twenty people who seemed like maids and ask them to leave?I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts before a voice spoke up."It's fine, Luna. We are happy with your presence."I frowned, glancing behind me as the maid bowed slightly. She said the same name the first woman said.Nova told me Luna was the mate of the Alpha, and I didn't think anyone was there beside me.I brushed off the thoughts and gathered up the courage. "What's for the guards today?""It's a herb omelette with fried tomato and tea.""I'll do it," I said."No, my lady..." She began shaking her head. "You are not meant to do any chores. It has always been the work of the omega; the Alpha will have my head, not only me, all our heads if he finds you working in the kitchen." She said fearfully.I smiled briefly, although I didn't know who the alpha was and what his connection with me was; I guess if he knew I was trying to save his life, he would not create a fuss."I'll take responsibility." I blurted out and bit my lower lip.The maid stared at me intently as if trying to see if I would back down on my words later, and soon after, she shrugged.I got down to business to prepare the meal myself. I added the peppermint I felt in my pocket earlier to keep the guards alert. The reason for serving them tea was that Nova told me that an attack would happen at an early hour when no one expected, and the guards were asleep at that time. So, I needed to serve them that tea mixed with herbs so that their body would stay hyper and awake throughout the night. When I was done, I was almost exhausted. I had barely rested, but then, I was doing this for myself. I needed to save him from keeping myself alive.I grasped the tray and asked the maids to help with the rest.As soon as I entered the guards' quarter, they stared at me.It was as if I had fallen from the sky. They stood abruptly as I approached them and bowed to me."Luna!" They said simultaneously. That name again?I turned to see the maids were in the same position as the guards, confusing me more.As soon as I was done, I left the quarters after they bade me farewell."Nova," I murmured when I returned to the room I had been in. "Why is everyone referring to me as the Luna? That is strange.""It is because you are the Luna of the Crescent moon pack. You are the mate of the Alpha." Nova said."Wait, what?!" I gasped."You got mated to the Alpha three months ago," Nova said.I opened my mouth to speak, and just then, the door flung open, and in strode a man.My mouth opened agape as my eyes collided with his sea-green ones."Apollo?!"KALILA POVI could not be mistaken. I pinched myself to see if I was dreaming. I had seen him die. I saw him stop breathing. I saw them trying to revive him!I stumbled towards him and ran into him, not minding if he wasn't fully prepared for my attack.I wrapped my arms around him and clutched his shirt tightly. My lower lips trembled, and I blinked back the tears at the back of my eyes, but it was useless. It came pouring down hard and fast, blinding my vision. I didn't need to see anyway; I only desired to feel his strong arms around me."I'm sorry, Apollo. I am so sorry. I didn't mean for that to happen to you!" I cried.I was in his arms for a few seconds until I felt him extract my arms away from my body.He stared at me coldly, and he let out a grunt."I-I...""Save it." He said gruffly. "And who the hell is Apollo?!"He seemed to be mad for some reason I didn't understand.I tried walking towards him, but his voice halted me again."How dare you mention another man's name under
ARES POVDahliaThat was the thought in my head as I walked toward her room. I had gotten information that she had woken up suddenly.Dahlia was my Luna, and she had gotten into a coma when Rogues attacked my pack. I wasn't present; I had gone for pack's business, and only the Alpha needed to be present, so I had put my Beta, Jeremy, in charge. But they had gotten attacked almost immediately after I left.I learnt that Dahlia had gotten injured, so she fell unconscious immediately. I didn't know how that happened because I knew she was weak, and she barely took part in any pack training. She enjoyed staying indoors and would never fight, even to defend herself.I guessed she was targeted- since I wasn't present, whatever was mine would always be a target- and was perhaps forced to defend herself due to the situation."Good morning, Alpha." A maid said with a bow.I grimaced, brushing a hand through my hair as I nodded to respond to the greeting.I couldn't help but think back to the r
KALILA POVSince Ares left, I had not seen him. Also, I heard the rumour going about, and I was glad I had been of great help. But then I had done what I needed to do. Although Ares was cruel to me, I had saved him."What is the next task, Nova? I can't believe this will be as easy as this." I gushed and waited for her to connect- I learnt the connection between Nova and I was mind-linking."If Alpha Ares had died, the mission would have ended, and you would have died a real death. Some missions won't be completed without preparation; this is just one. And it is nothing compared to what's ahead of you."What was ahead of me?! I didn't know what it was, but I was sure it wouldn't be as complex as this. "Am I serving a million cups of tea to more guards to keep Alpha Ares alive? That's the easiest thing ever, and I think I have a knack for making teas now.""Barely that," Nova said. And I pictured her rolling her eyes inside my head.Nova continued. "The coronation of Alpha Ares is a fe
KALILA POVMy breath hitched in my throat; the hair at the back of my neck prickled, and I groaned as goosebumps suddenly rose on my skin.I didn't know why but Ares incited such a response from me. It was weird, and I could not say I enjoyed what his presence was doing to me.I huffed out a breath as Ares neared. He narrowed his eyes on mine, and he halted just a distance before me."Dahlia..." He murmured and then paused. It was as if he was trying to choose his words carefully.Though I knew it was far from it.Ares stroked the five O'clock shadow cheeks. My hands itched to do the same, but I held them by my side because I knew he wouldn't appreciate it.He looked insanely hot yet angry.Perhaps, my presence in the office wasn't needed, as the blond with blue eyes had said. "Dahlia..." Ares murmured again.I wanted to tell him to call me Kalila instead, but I refrained from doing so as I remembered Nova's warning."You cursed me the last time I forced you here. You swear never to
ARES POVMy brows furrowed as I passed the third room in the training centre. It was situated underneath the Crescent Moon Pack building. It comprises several rooms, at least ten in number, with different functions. It wasn't the state of the training centre, which was in chaos, that bothered me; it was Dahlia. She was with a Delta, sparring. No, she was attempting to spar.Seeing her in the training centre was even weirder seeing her training. The Delta stood to their feet when they noticed me and bowed their head slightly."Alpha Ares," Thaddeus said my name with a loud voice and I sighed. So much for wanting to come to the training centre unannounced. He did that all the time, not that it bothered me, or maybe it did, but that was only due to the presence of Dahlia.I didn't understand what was going on with her.My intention wasn't to come down here in the first place. I seldom went except when I wanted to inspect. But I have some members I had put in charge, and I often send them
KALILA POVAfter the day job at the infirmary, I returned to my room while avoiding Ares.I knew he had been following me; I had caught him staring at me oddly while I was with Jensen.Although I could barely read the expression on his face, I knew he wasn't pleased. He had furrowed his brows and scrunched up his face in the way I now find annoying.Breathing out, I sat on the bed and gripped one of the pillows on it.I leapt to my feet as I felt Nova trying to connect with me.Since I arrived at the Crescent Moon Pack a week now, I knew how Nova communicated with me.It had been challenging in the beginning, she had made me have a blinding headache, and Nova had attributed it to me adjusting to accommodate her.Even though I had not accommodated her fully, I could at least control the amount of power she used."Hi, Kalila,""Nova," I said, rolling my eyes.Even after learning she couldn't see me except I let her switch, which I hadn't grasped fully.Nova told me I'd be able to soon.
KALILA POVChecking out my outfit once more, I did my hair in a high bun.I stared at my bare makeup face in the mirror before dabbing it with the brush in my hand.I straightened as a maid stepped into the room."Luna Dahlia, the Alpha is waiting." Angela, as I learnt her name, said, and she bowed.Ares had agreed to me following him, even after walking out on him last night.Although I hadn't seen him today, he had written a notice informing me.I slipped into the black ballet flats near the foot of the bed before snatching my purse, sitting on the chair and running out of the room.I bumped into Ares; he was by the foot of the stairs. He donned a plaid shirt and jeans. He was overly casual, and it was my first time seeing someone causally dressed as hot as this.Ares eyed me, his eyes not giving what he felt, and he stepped away from me as soon as I got to the last step.I rolled my eyes as I followed behind him.I attempted to make small talk, but all I said and did, I got no resp
KALILA POVThe sound of Ares clearing his throat brought me out of my thoughts; Staring at him, I tilted my head; "Is there something else I should know?"My eyes glided around the dark room before staring at him again.Ares shrugged, "It would be nice if I could be friends with him.""How would that benefit you?" I asked, sitting on the vanity table."I'll be as powerful as he is.""Won't that mean you'll resort to killing innocent people just to take charge of them? Also, don't you think he can kill you since you're an Alpha? I mean, he kills alphas to attain more powers. Is that not so?"Ares shrugged again, "I'm not one of the alphas he can kill easily."Ares sounded so confident that for a minute, I wanted to believe he was right, but I couldn't. He had described the Alpha of the Black Moon as vicious; I didn't think the Alpha would want to be his faithful friend. Perhaps, a faux friend to get what he wanted from Ares. And that was his soul.Or maybe I was thinking wrongly. But I
