My favourite smile.

Dev Khurrana

I was walking towards my car with her hand in mine.

"Mr. Khurrana! What the hell are you trying to do?" She asked irritated.

I just opened the passenger side door of my car and gestured her to get in.

She just folded her hands on her chest & said

"I won't get it in. You can't order me around like this." She said glaring at me.

Pinching the bridge of my nose, I was really trying hard to control my anger.

I would burst anytime!

"I think you owe me that much!" I said irritated by her behaviour.

She is behaving as if I never existed in her life.

"I don't owe you anything." She said still glaring at me.

"Are you getting in? Or should I do the honours? Because I have hell lot of things to talk about." I said trying to control myself.

I can't handle my emotions!

On one hand, I am just angry & hurt after seeing her but another part of me is just dancing madly that I've finally met her.

She slipped in the passenger side huffing and I walked towards the driver side while closing the door for her.

There was a drastic change in her.

She was never this poise. She was always the one who would do anything & everything she likes.

Things do change!

"Why do you not want to take up Karan's wedding planning?" I asked her.

"That's none of your business." She said shrugging.

"Don't you think you're talking too much?

I am trying to be a bit civil with you." I said annoyed.

Did she forget, it was her who ranaway?

"Why are you trying to be civil with me? Why are we having a conversation at the first place!" She yelled frustrated.

"What the hell is your problem? It was you who just vanished without reasoning. And you ask me why are we conversing? Are you hearing yourself?" I said looking at her and she looked as if she was trying hard to control her emotions she was not even looking at me.

"It's not that hard." She muttered to herself.

Huh?

What's not hard?

"I don't want to plan Karan's wedding because the bride is your sister." She said still looking out of the window.

"So? I can't see the problem." I asked confused.

"I will have to come across to you more frequently." She said in a low voice.

"Anushka." I called softly and she snapped her head towards me.

"I think we've reached your office." She said and got out of the car.

I held her hand and we started walking towards my office. Everyone stopped dead on their tracks looking at her.

Ofcourse they would be shocked to see her.

It's been two years since the last time she walked in this office with her hands in mine.

Everyone started talking among themselves and I could see Anushka getting uncomfortable. She put her head down and walked along with me.

"Get back to work!" I said with a stern tone and everyone took their places still staring at her.

I pulled her towards me and held her sideways by her waist.

She looked at me shocked and I whispered

"You need not walk with your head down. Keep your head high. No one would dare say anything about you."

She just gave me a smile.

Ahhh..!

There it is!

My favourite smile.

We entered my cabin and she looked around with a smile.

"It is still the same." She said with a smile.

"Everything is still the same, Anushka. The way it was when you left." I said with a sigh.

"Why are you not bitter about me running away?" She asked frowning.

"I really tried to be angry on you, hate you but I couldn't do it." I said shrugging.

I can never do it!

"I just want to know why did you do it. I've been searching you for years, to ask you this question." I said holding her shoulders.

"I have no explanations for what I did, Dev. I wrote everything on the letter. That was the only reason I had. I was young back then, I did not wanted to be trapped in a marriage." She said not looking at me.

Letter?

What letter?

"Anushka— I started but she cut me off.

"Dev! Can we not just move past it? I don't want to go back to those days." She said removing my hands from her shoulder.

"Why? Why not? You can't just leave me because you felt trapped. You could've talked to me. I always made sure that we were on the same page." I said raising my voice a bit.

"No, Dev. You made sure we were on the same page but how long was I going to act that I was happy?" She said irritated with tears in her eyes.

I held her hand and pulled her towards me. Holding her chin, I made her look up at me

"You weren't happy?" I asked softly.

"You are a great person, Dev. But my happiness was not about you. I— I don't know what to say." She said stammering at the end when a tear fell from her eye.

She wiped her tear hastily & said

"Anyways it shouldn't matter anymore. You're engaged to someone else."

" Everything that is related to you has always mattered to me. And I am not engaged." I said pulling her more to me.

She looked up to me & said

"I don't want to think about anything that happened in the past. It was not as if we were deeply in love & I left you. We were just friends, great friends."

"Yeah! We were just friends." I said shrugging and left her.

Just friends!

"If we are just friends, then why do you have a problem planning my sister's wedding?"

I asked her narrowing my eyes

"I don't want to face your family." She said wiping her tears.

"Ohhh! So now you are ashamed of the fact that you ranaway?" I asked sarcastically.

"Keep your tone in check, Dev. You know what, I stayed for 6 months in that hell just for you. Thinking that you are nothing like them and that was just a phase. If only I would've known getting married to you was going to cost me my life, I would've never got married to you."

She yelled and left banging my cabin door.

Hell?

Cost her life?

Why is everything soo fucking confusing?
