I already told my mom I would be in my room, talking to Cole. Then why could she be calling me all of a sudden?

Just in case I didn't hear her the first time, my mother called me again, her voice unusually high-pitched. "Kathleen!"

I realized then that whatever it was, was urgent. My phone beeped at the same time, and it was a message from my mom, followed by a missed call. What the hell was even going on? I had never seen her being so paranoid like this before.
