The gut feeling of being watched overwhelmed me, I looked up and saw two pairs of eyes staring at me, I got awkward and fled the building after paying for my meal. "Min Jun," I called out to the stranger. He looked at me and began to walk away again.
I quickly stood up and chased after him. "Hey," I called out to him. He continued to ignore me and kept walking away. "Hey," I yelled and ran after him, I grabbed his hand and he turned to look at me. "What!" He yelled. His voice attracted people, they turned to look at us and I got shy. I hid my head avoiding their gazes, I didn't want anyone to recognize me.Min Jun dragged me into a flower store away from the questioning eyes. "What do you want?" He asked me. "You never called me, I just wanted to know if you wanted to be with me or not," I said. While I blurted out my thoughts, I stared at my hands and admired them to ignore his eyes."Be with you?" He asked, I nodded still staring at my hand. "Didn't know you were that desperate to be a wife, I am not going to be with you, it's just a contract," he said harshly. His words pierced my heart but it was the truth. I tried to hold my tears and swallowed an imaginary lump in my throat. "Yes, it's just a contract, a stupid contract. I am sorry. I was just being desperate," I said and headed for the door. Why did his words hurt so much, it was the truth. "Wait," he said but I wasn't listening, why should I wait? He wasn't interested in being with me, why wait for more insulting truth?"I don't even know your name," He said and I stopped. "Mei Xing," I replied. "Mei Xing," he called out. I hummed a reply and held the door. "I accept the contract," he said. I didn't know how to react, do I really want this or do I just walk out the door, he already insulted me and made it clear that this was going to be a contracted marriage. Do I play hard to get or just accept that I needed him desperately?"You don't want me anymore?" He questioned. He was standing close to me now, when did he get there? "I didn't say anything," I murmured. "So do we have a deal?" He asked me and I nodded in acceptance."You will have to meet my parents. I already told them I am getting married," I said. He looked at me speechless. "I barely know you and you want me to meet your parents?" He asked me. "No, no, no," I shook my head. "We can go on a date first, then you get to know me and I get to know you and then you can meet my parents," I said."Hmm," he said. "When do I get paid?" He asked me."You get paid fifty thousand after the date with me and after you get to know me," I said and looked at him to see his reaction. "And the other half?" he asked. "After the...," he rudely interrupted me pouring out his thoughts. "Is it after the marriage contract ends?" He asked. I looked at him speechless and he must have read my facial expressions wrongly and was questioning me with his eyes. "One year, you want me to wait one year for the other half?" He asked, not waiting for an answer, he continued to question me. "You don't trust me?" He asked me. I shook my head dismissing his questions but he wasn't listening. "No wait!" I said forcefully. He looked at me with the same questioning eyes waiting for an answer."I will pay you the other half after the meeting with my parents," I said. "I was willing to wait one year but I like the contract already," he said smiling."When am I meeting your parents?" He asked me. "Aren't you concerned about knowing me first?" I asked him. "Of course I want to know you," he said, paused and looked at me. "On Saturday, are you free Saturday, I will give you a call and we can go on the date," he said. I smiled brightly and nodded."See you Saturday," he smirked and opened the door. "Ladies first," he said bowing, I blushed lightly and walked out the door. "Wait, " I said and handed him my personal number. "It should be easier to reach me there," I said."Okay babe," he said and walked away, I smiled slightly and walked back to my car. "Miss," the driver said when he opened the door. "No questions and please do not tell my dad what you saw today," I said when I got in. "What happened today?" He asked me and winked. I laughed and thanked him. He got into the car and we drove back home.I kept smiling through out the day until I met dad and he said…Rebelling was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Every time I looked at my driver, he seemed to want to drive me back home but I wasn't ready to leave, dad gave me an hour but I can be out here for as I want to be. "Miss your dad is worried," my driver informed me. "Don't worry about him, he'll get over it," I said alright I knew that wasn't true. Dad never gets over anything, he was always so serious. "I may lose my job miss," the driver said and I nodded. "We can leave now," I said and got into the car. I didn't want him to lose his job because of me and I didn't want to get another driver, he has been my driver for as long as I can remember and he understands me. I wouldn't want him to lose his job and make dad get me another driver who'll always report my affairs to dad. As I stood facing the front door, my heart kept beating fast, was I ready to face dad after ignoring his calls all day and coming home later than I was meant to? I raised my hands to pull the door open bu
He looked at me and I should have known what his answer was going to be. He was my dad, he was impossible and never changed his mind. Why was I sad that he said no? He does this all the time, he always wanted to be in control of my life, well not anymore because from now on I was going to determine how my life was going to go. I stared at my phone waiting for Min Jun to call me. Maybe I made a mistake, I never should have given him my business card, I should have gotten his number and reached out to him on my own. But that would be desperate and I didn't want to look desperate although I really am. I took a deep breath and kept waiting for my phone to ring, a new number to flash across the screen, something, anything. No one ever called me so I knew immediately it rang, it had to be Min Jun. But there was nothing, not a mistake dial. An error or a prank call nothing. Should I have offered more money, if he didn't take a hundred thousand, how was I sure he was willing to be trapped
I stared at my blank phone and wondered if he would pick up the call if I called him again. I was going to try to talk to him this tie and not panic. I took a deep breath and dialled his number. It kept ringing but he wasn't picking up. I can't blame him for not wanting to pick up the call after I called him twice and didn't say anything. He was clearly not as desperate as I was. He didn't need me to marry him but I needed to marry him and I needed to do it soon.My second appointment with the doctors were coming soon and although I don't plan on ever going to any of the appointments, I needed to make sure my parents accepted him with no questions asked. "I guess I can wait a while you think," I heard a familiar voice and immediately snapped me out of my thoughts. I stared at my screen unable to form words and making sure I didn't end the call. "I guess you are still thinking," he said again and I smiled. Why was I smiling? He couldn't see me smile. "I guess I will have to call you ag
I lay on my bed and pretended to be asleep while Dad kept calling my name. I have no idea why I laid on my bed but I wanted to avoid Dad. If I had to sit with him and talk like we did earlier it could lead to me exposing my secrets and telling him everything about Jin Min. "Mei Xing," he called out again. His voice got louder and calmer as he got closer to my room and I could finally hear his footsteps.I wasn't good at acting so I turned to the wall, he wouldn't be able to see my face and I could pretend to be asleep and not get caught. A faint knock on the door, a barely audible creaking sound of my room door opening, and a weird feeling of being watched. Dad was in my room "Mei Xing," he called out again and I hummed. Was that too loud? Did he catch me in the act? Does he think I'm asleep? Or is he trying to wake me up? I ignored him and my thoughts and tightly shut my eyes while trying not to move. "Mei Xing," he called out softly.I ignored his request to wake me up and patiently
Friday was in three days, I was going to meet Min Jun for the third time, I was scared and nervous. I know I have met him twice but this time it is different, we are going on a date. I do not have to impress him, it's not a normal date, it is a business date, I shouldn't be so nervous. You have to impress your client in a business date, right? My thoughts were throwing me into a state of panic. I groaned and went to my bed. Sleeping was my only escape from my thoughts and I just had to take the easy way out."Min Jun," I yelled. "What?" he asked me with an angry face. "Why are you so upset?" I asked him. He looked at me like I just said something stupid. "Why are you staring at me like that?" I asked him. "You really do not know, you really don't understand what you did wrong?" he asked me getting angrier. He was yelling and I was on the verge of tears, I had no idea what I was doing wrong. "You know what, this is pointless, if you do not know what you did, then I suggest you forget a
I was not going to compromise my date with my Min Jun just because my dad decided to be as stubborn as always. As I turned to walk away from my parents with a bunch of blueberry in my hands, I waited for my parents to call me back. I didn't want to leave yet, I needed more blueberries."Mei," mom and dad called. Well mom called me sweetly and dad yelled my name. "Do whatever you want to do Mei," Dad replied. "Thank you sir," I yelled. I turned back to the table and grabbed another bunch. "I just needed another one," I smiled and ran up the stairs before dad decided to change his mind.My bed was always my best friend but I finally appreciated her when I got diagnosed. "I should have gotten more blueberries or at least ate dinner before I decided to leave the dining table, I am so stupid," I groaned and laid on my bed popping berries into my mouth. Friday better be worth my stupid behaviours.I screamed when I found mom by the door. "Mom you scared me," I said. "Sorry, I brought you be
I had no idea how a date was going to go. I have never been on a date, never been out with a man, at least not alone with a man. I have been on a family date with Mom and Dad. The only man I am allowed to go out with. I should be more worried about my appointment with the doctor, my first cancer treatment "Yippee!!" my life couldn't get any wor… I paused and thought of how things ended up worse whenever you thought they couldn't. Things couldn't get any better. My alarm started ringing and I knew it was time to get out of bed. I stared at it and watched it ring, "You really aren't doing your job you know," I said and remained on my bed. The alarm kept ringing and as much as I tried to pretend it wasn't ringing, it kept getting louder and more annoying. "What does a girl do to have some time to herself?" I whispered and finally stood up to turn off the alarm. There goes my sleep.I walked into my bathroom and washed my sleepy face and brushed my teeth. "Miss Mei, breakfast is ready," I
His immediate response to my text made me feel tingly. The little act made me feel important. I was about to read the message when the doctor's office door came open and the people in it came out. What were my parents doing here? How did they get here before me? "What are you guys doing here?" I blurted my question. My parents caught my gaze and ignored me. "Miss Mei," the doctor called my name and invited me into his office. I put my phone in my bag and walked into the office. The doctor pointed at a seat but remained by the door. "Why are my parents here?" I asked him curiously. I was more concerned about my parent's presence than where he wanted to stand. "They are here for an appointment with you," he said and my parents walked in.I was not going to admit that I wanted them here but I was so happy they were here. I was starting to contemplate my decision of telling them not to tag along but my intrusive parents just had to tag along anyway. I didn't complain about their presenc
