Heidi looked at him. Astonishment flashed in her eyes for a split second, replaced by the chill that hardened her features.

Silent and stiff, she turned the door's handle and left the car.

On the vast dark street, she stood by the roadside, her hands folded across her chest, her features cascaded with a coldness that cracked his heart.

Lucas took in a deep breath, fighting down his rage.

“You know it's a silly idea.” He left the car and stood in front of her. “Neither Killian nor your cousin loves each other.”

His words were greeted with silence. Heidi looked sideways, blinking rapidly. He'd prefer she yell at him and express her anger rather than her silence.
