I was up early as always this morning. I tried to be quiet as I started making breakfast. I just had the overhead light of the stove on to keep the tranquil darkness in the house. Sloan was asleep on the couch with her laptop still open on the coffee table. She must have been up late trying to help us and passed out instead of going to her room. That was ok, I didn’t mind.

As I made our food, my phone went off on the counter with a text from Jasper saying, “We are headed out. We will be there in four hours if I’m lucky.”

I texted him back saying, “Alright. I’ll be around. Probably at my house.”

“Ok.”

I put my phone down on the counter and went back to making breakfast. As I finished cooking, I heard Sloan stir from her sleep on the couch. I stopped and looked back at her. She was stretching with her eyes still closed and I found it adorable as hell to watch.

I turned back to the stove and cut off the burner so I could put everything on the plates. I l
