Chapter 6- Caden

Chapter 6- Caden

After a long drive and a detour to the nearest Tim Horton’s, I finally make it to the location of The Run. It looks like I just missed Ancient Eli’s speech about the rogue vampires judging by the time and the way a stage setup is being dismantled but my father thankfully gave me the information earlier in his office. Fledglings were nothing to take lightly, their bloodlust causing the fall of many cities for centuries when not trained in a coven. Their presence will bring a greater challenge this year if anyone were to run into one.

With careful driving, I manoeuvre my truck around the parking spaces provided for those who drove as I think about what antics to expect this year other than the fledgling. Last year a group of rogues called Raggers kidnapped many omegas and rogue she-wolves as they were the weakest among those attending, hiding them and raping them to their hearts content. Unfortunately no one was able to find their hiding spot and many she-wolves were proclaimed missing when the event ended. And their families left with unanswered questions of what the Royal Pack will do. One of my goals this year is to find the place the Ragers hide and bring this to the co-ordinators so a trap can be made.

Luckily, I find a parking spot next to my pack mate Zander who waves nonchalantly at me. As I park ad step out of my vehicle, the first thing that hits me is the scents of so many wolves in one area. With just a quick glance I can tell the formation of cliques already formed from those that arrived early. Those of higher rank stuck together staying closer to the front to eye the she-wolves up for grabs. Those who are weaker - like the Omegas- are careful not to get between the higher ranked wolves and stay closer to the back of the wolves gathering if they are males. She wolves stick to the very front, closest to the forest and not to get in the way of the whores doing their best to gain the attention of the powerful males before them.

“You get volun-told to come here?” I ask my friend, walking over and giving him a hug.

“It was either come here or be forced on a suicide mission by your father. I think coming here is safer than dealing with your father.” Zander answers, his eyes unfocused as he looks towards the forest, ignoring the she-wolves prostrating themselves trying to gain his attention. I sigh, patting my chosen Beta on the back and letting him grieve. He may be here on my father’s orders, but I know he will do his best to save every unmated she wolves from a cruel fate. It’s what his mate would have wanted. The only reason he even came is to prevent my father from giving him a cruel death, having me lose my best friend and support in the pack, even knowing that Zander lost his mate and unborn pup to an accident that could have been avoided and was not ready to have another my father still gave him two unfair ultimatums.

“I plan to kill him.” I state, leaning against my truck. My friend looks at me in surprise, his eyes filled with unshed tears.

                “Kill who?”

“My father. He needs to go if we are to have a better future.” With this, I go into details of my plan, how I did not want Felix to take hold of the title that belongs to me and how I need to take over as Alpha the moment I reach the lodge. I could not allow my father to rule any longer. Changes need to be made.

“You have my support, and many others too.” Zander reassures me, hatred in his eyes. My father is the reason his mate was killed and I know he wants that bastard dead just as much as I do.

“Do me a favour. Keep an eye out for Karina if you see her. She was forced here too.” I inform my friend before we go our separate ways. Walking towards the cages lined and waiting to release their captors, I growl loudly at the males who torment the she-wolves inside, taunting them and explaining the explicit details of how they will be raped and claimed. Idiots if you ask me. These she-wolves are the ones who refuse to be here. Although killing is prohibited from The Run, fighting and injuring someone is fine as long as it is in self defense. These men will have their hands full if they try anything against these she wolves.  Deciding to walk away, I turn to go back to my truck and wait, maybe catch a nap before we are to enter the forest. But then I see her.

A silver wolf curled into a ball resting in her cage. Her fur shimmers with ever breath reminding me of silver glitter used for crafts. She is indifferent to her surroundings as if she is anywhere and not at The Run. A soft smile spreads across my lips. Unlike the she-wolves growling and snarling at any male that draws near, she conserves her energy and strength, not bothering with any male that draws close to her even as they comment about how boring or weak she is. They want someone to break, someone they could slap around. But what they do not see with this silver wolf is the way her tail twitches with each new male that comes near her. The way her ears move towards a certain sound. They could not see the power hidden in her blood as the way she behaves makes her inconspicuous but I feel the power in her blood. Taking a deep breath, I focus on her scent of mint and lavender and chuckle. This silver wolf is of Alpha and Beta blood. She is strong and she is planning her movements. I have a feeling that this she-wolf will make it out of the forest un-mated and leave a trail of blood and destruction if any male tries to get their hands on her. While others mingle around me or pass their time taunting the aggressive she-wolves locked away, I silently watch the siler wolf in the cage. I want to get to know her. Learn why she is here and what her view of The Run is. Even help her make it out of the forest un-mated so that I can ask her on a date and see what the future hold. I have a feeling that I will find myself flat on my ass the moment we run into each other in the forest, but I am fine with that. So long as she gives me a chance. I have never been intrigued by a she-wolf since coming to the event six years ago when I turned eighteen and knowing that this Lady Silver has my attention makes me chuckle.

“He Caden, I learned from a co-ordinator that Karina is a nurse this year. She is waiting to help with the injured so you don’t have to worry about her.” Zander appears at my side, taking a seat on the ground beside me.

“Good.” My answer is short with my attention still on Lady Silver.

“Something catch your attention?” My best friend chuckles and I smile, pointing towards the first cage in line. He lets out a low whistle before nudging my shoulder with a chuckle.

“A silver wolf to match your golden wolf. Nice.”

“Yeah, but I plan to get to know her. Take her on a few dates and see where things go .” With that, the two of us decide to head back to our cars and wait. We decided that when the time comes, we would go our separate ways into the forest. Keep our pack mates in check and make sure that we make it to the lodge on our last day. He will find those that are loyal to us and inform them of my plan while I find Lady Silver and get to know her. She won’t need my protection but having an ally may help keep those males at bay. When midnight soon started creeping in, both of us exited my truck and grabbed our bags. Wolves were already shifting, taking in the scent of the female they desire. I chuckle, realizing that Lady Silver had stood up, preparing herself to run. Zander gives me one last hug before heading to a different area.

Ten minutes later a shift in the air happens and the silver moon above me begins to turn a sapphire blue. The she wolves that have been growling and snarling non stop slowly quiet down, moving their focus to the exit of their cage but still sending warning growls to the males that get to close. And then it happens. Then the gun shot rings and the she wolves are released. We all watch in awe as the she wolf in the first cage, the one my eyes have never left, bolts like a bullet. Her silver fur is nothing but a blur, a streak of silver cutting through the blue surroundings. All eyes are on her as she enters the forest at a break neck speed long before the others have even made it half way. These males never paid attention to her docile act and now they lost their chances to gain her scent with the wind blowing in the she-wolves favour. With a chuckle. I wait for our chance to enter, the ten minute head star feeling like an eternity. The moment the second gunshot rang out, I watch as the males rush into the forest, hoping to find the she-wolf of they want. In no rush, I leisurely walk in. I know I will meet this Lady Silver in no time at all.
