Emilia's POV.
"I don't want to go to school today mummy." My five-year-old daughter, Aria said from where she was safely belted in the back seat of my car. I honestly do not have the strength nor the time to do this with her right now. We have been at this for the past week now, it has suddenly become one of her favorite things to do. She comes up with different reasons and excuses to not go to school and I always end up bribing her with either extra chocolates or promising to let her stay up for extra thirty minutes after bedtime."What is this about again, baby?" I asked softly cause God forbid I raise my voice at her at this very crucial moment. I pulled over in her school's parking lot and turned in my seat to face her. She had her face turned down and she kept twirling her hair around her tiny fingers."Aria baby, Tell mummy what is wrong. Why do you not want to go to school today?" I asked her. She mumbled a few words in response but I couldn't make out what she was saying."You are going to have to speak louder than that, baby," I said softly."I want my daddy." She said so softly that I would have missed it if I wasn't paying attention. My heart literally stopped working for like a minute or thereabout. I have always known this day was coming. The day she would want to know why every other kid has a father and she doesn't and no matter how hard I have tried to prepare myself since the past year...I definitely don't see myself handling this properly. All of a sudden, all the speech and words I had planned to say when this day comes has deserted me."Aria...what..."She raised her head then and my heart tightened in pain. She has been crying, she has tears mark on her face and her eyes were a little bit red and swollen. How long has she been sitting there crying while I was busy driving and being unaware? I should have known something was wrong from the moment when she didn't react when her favorite song came on. I reached out to her and unbuckled the seatbelt and lifted her out of her seat and into my lap. She wrapped her hands around my neck and held on tightly—as tight as she could."Aria honey...""Everybody in class has a daddy and mummy, and everyone is going to come to school with their daddy's today and I don't want to go cause I will be the only one without a daddy. Don't make me go mummy, please." She cried into my neck and I could feel her tears dropping on my neck."But baby..." I started and she interrupted me yet again. She pulled back and looked at me with those huge eyes that were filled with tears and sadness. "Please mummy, don't make me go." She pleaded. Those eyes. I couldn't say no to them. I am yet to meet anyone that could say no to those eyes."Okay baby, you are not going. I won't make you go. You are going to come with me to work and we get to spend the day together. You and me." I said with the brightest smile I could manage."And Aunty Patty?" She asked sniffling."Yes, Aunty Patty will be there," I answered and she gave me a watery smile before kissing my cheeks."Thank you, mummy. I love you." She said while hugging me."I love you too baby. More than you can ever imagine." I answered and we stayed like that for about three minutes before I pulled back and placed her in the passenger seat beside me and helped her to fasten her seatbelt until she was secured."You ready to go?" I asked her.She nodded eagerly. "Yep."I pulled out of the parking lot and started heading for my workplace while Aria's favorite song was going off in the car and she was singing and dancing along.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"We are here," I announced when we arrived at my workplace about twenty minutes later. Aria made quick work of removing her seatbelt and literally jumped out of the car. I turned off the engine and grabbed my handbag and Aria's school bag—she is going to need something to keep her busy. I walked around to the other side and found her bouncing on her feet eagerly.I smiled at that cuteness, if I hadn't witnessed it I wouldn't be able to tell that she was busy crying her eyes out a few minutes ago. "Come on, Peanuts. Mummy is getting late." I told her while handing her her bag to put on."Race you." She announced before taking off in the direction of my office."Aria, no running," I called after her but it was already too late. I quickly followed her into the building.I am my own boss. I own a beauty shop where you can get anything done—hair, nails, lash extensions, makeup—literally everything. Putting this business together was not an easy feat...this building right here is my second baby...cause Aria will always come first. I walked inside and found Aria in the arms of her second favorite person in the world— according to her, although that position can change anytime. "Mummy, Aunty Patty is going to style my hair for me and we are going to have a manicure and pedicure session, just the two of us," Aria announced beaming at her Aunty Patty."Just the two of you? I thought we were spending the day together." I exclaimed jokingly."Oh right...do you think we have space for one more person, Aunty?" She said turning away from me."Yes, I think we have space for your mum," Patricia answered."Great. See mummy, you can join us.""Thank you, baby. First thing first though, mummy and Aunty Patty have to work and you can make your way to your playroom and keep yourself amused." I said. She pouted "But...I want to spend the day with you." She whined."Mummy has to work, honey. How about we do it this way? If you don't get into any trouble today, you get a special treat. Do we have a deal?" I asked. She remained silent for a while and look as if she was thinking it through."Can I have boba?" She finally asked."Sure thing," I answered."And Ice cream? With pizza?" She added.I raised my brows slightly at Patricia who looked like she was struggling to keep her laughter in. Aria knows very well that we don't do ice cream and boba on the same day but trust my daughter to try and make a deal out of it."Anything you want, princess," I answered and she squealed and kissed Patricia on the cheek before running over to me and hugging me."See you later, Mummy." She said.I bent down and kissed her forehead. "See you later baby," I replied and she took off running to her playroom. I didn't bother asking her not to run this time."Hello there, best friend," Patricia said in greeting and I smiled."Good morning, Patty," I answered. She rolled her eyes at the nickname. Aria gave her that name when she was two and the name just kinda stuck and everyone has been calling her that since even though she has warned us all against calling her that but we still do it anyway."Why did it look like she has been crying?" She asked.Nothing ever gets past Patricia. Nothing.I looked in the direction that Aria went to and sighed before taking a seat on one of the seats in the reception."She wanted her daddy," I said simply and Patricia sighed before sitting beside me."What prompted that?"I shrugged. "Apparently, they have a father-daughter thing going on at school today and she did not want to go because she would have been the only one without a daddy and that is very understandable. It is just disturbing that she didn't even mention it to me until this morning. She was crying, Pat. She begged me not to let her go to school.""What would you have done if she had informed you earlier?" Patricia asked."I would have asked Aiden to go with her. He would have been happy to do that."I know you are probably wondering who Aiden is. Aiden is my boyfriend and we have been together for close to two years now.Patricia scoffed. "We both know Aria doesn't like Aiden one bit and that is probably why she didn't mention it to you."I nodded slowly. "I know. It is not like you like Aiden either." I said."I refuse to reply to that. So...did you tell her?" She asked."Tell her what?""About her father, of course.""No, she forgot about it the moment I agreed that she won't be going to school today," I said."You know a day will come that she will want to know about him and you will have no choice but to tell her about him," Patricia said."Yes but until that day comes, Pat, I won't be mentioning him to her and I am going to be here hoping she never asks about him," I answered."Whatever you say, hon. I am going to start getting things ready for our first appointment." She said and I nodded and watched her leave the reception.I know a day will come when Aria will want to know about her father and I have been dreading and hoping that day would never come since she was born. It is why I left Italy in the first place. I don't want my daughter involved in that kind of life, so until she asks, I won't be saying a word to her.Riccardo's POV.It has been a while since I used the gym room so I woke up today and decided to do a little workout before I attend to the shit that has probably piled up on my table. I have been at it for close to an hour now or more, I can't tell cause I lost track of time already and I was enjoying myself a little too much to care. Four days later and I am yet to hear a word from Enzo. I trust him to be doing his work and I am not going to admit that the silence on his end is a little bit deafening. I want to get this task over and done with. How hard can it be to find a woman anyways? It couldn't be that heard. There is also the fact that I haven't heard from Roberto since the day he dropped that bomb on me, he just disappeared off the face of the earth and that is disturbing too but you won't see me admitting that either. I increased the speed of the treadmill in an attempt to clear my thoughts. I have better things to do than to be thinking about Roberto's empty but not-so-emp
Riccardo's POV. "Congratulations Amico. You have a daughter!" That can't be right. I have a daughter, one that is this grown up and I had no idea that she even existed. I still find it hard to believe that. How is it that I have a daughter somewhere on this earth and I don't even remember...creating her?"No...that can't be right," I mumbled under my breath but Enzo heard anyway. "I knew you would be in denial even after seeing her picture and that is why I ran a paternity test." He said proudly and he does appear super proud of himself. "How did you even get that done?" I asked him. He shrugged. "I pulled some strings." He answered before bringing out the test result of that multipurpose bag of his. I took the result from him and opened it, my eyes immediately went to where it confirmed that she was indeed my daughter before her name caught my eye. "Aria." I read out loud. "Aria Salvatore. She is five. She lives with her mother in NYC. She was born April 11, 2027, and her fa
Emilia's POV. I have been trying to get Aria ready for our date with Aiden but she wasn't having it. She has rejected every single dress I have picked out for her. It was either too tight or too heavy or too itchy. All of a sudden she seems to have different excuses to not put on her dress. She even claimed her favorite dress was too boring. I went into her closet again and picked out one of my favorite dresses of hers. It was purple and had this huge bow thing at the back and tiny sparkling diamonds on the sleeves and the neck side. I believe this dress is not too heavy, itchy, or too tight and it wasn't tight either. Although I am looking forward to the excuse the little chit will come up with this time around. I walked out of the closet and found her typing away on her phone. "Put down the phone and come try this dress on. I am pretty sure you will love this one." I tried to infuse as much excitement as I could into my voice. She put down the phone and walked up to where I was
Riccardo's POV."Do you think it is a good idea to show up at her doorstep this late?" Enzo asked. It probably is not a good idea to show up at her doorstep this late but I did not fly for almost nine hours only for me to not come straight to my destination. Besides, I have not been settled throughout our flight. I want to know if she remembers me and I also want to know why she chose not to inform me about the baby when she found out she was pregnant. I mean there is a high chance that she forgot about me the same way I forgot about that night but the difference between the both of us is the fact that she carried the proof of that night for nine months and she has nurtured and raised that baby for five years. I find it hard to believe that she raised her for that long without wondering about me— the baby's daddy. What if I am not even the father and this whole thing is just one big coincidence?—This is a ridiculous thought since I already saw the paternity test result. It is not li
Emilia's POV. I think I once mentioned that I have imagined different scenarios of Ric showing up one day. You have no idea how wild my imagination has gotten and the ridiculous scenes I came up with in my head but nothing, nothing prepared me for this and I definitely did not see this coming. All of a sudden, the ridiculousness of his statement seemed to melt my anxiousness and fear away."Do you mind repeating that?" I asked him. "I don't repeat myself, Princess." He said. He has used close to three different endearments in the space of forty minutes. I don't know this man well enough. Apart from today, we have spent only twelve hours together and we spent a good part of that time doing unholy things to ourselves— things that I remember vividly like it happened yesterday. I know the things he is capable of, I have heard things and seen a good amount of unflattering things about him in the news. I know the kind of crowd he moves with, the kind of thing he does, and just how dange
Riccardo's POV. I called her my soon-to-be wife. I don't know what kind of devil possessed me to do that but I am loving it anyway.Last night was a lot more than I expected. I wasn't sure about what I was going to say her when I stopped in front of her apartment but that didn't stop me from knocking on that door anyway and I hate to admit it but I am glad I did. I don't know why but I find this super exciting. I didn't spend much time with them but I saw and noticed just how close Aria and Emilia are which is expected since they only have each other and I know I might come off as a cruel person, scratch that, I am cruel most of the time but I am not cruel enough to separate them. Not that Emilia would let me take her daughter away from her without a fight. She looked like she was ready to pull my hair out and claw my eyes out of its socket last night and maybe that was what prompted me to say what I said. A marriage to Emilia? I have never even thought about getting married to an
Emilia's POV. So much for wanting to sleep my morning away, I could not even sleep the entire night. I kept tossing and turning and reaching out to Aria just to make sure she was still in bed with me. I managed to doze off for a bit but I soon woke up when I had a really short dream that Aria was taken away from me- I know it wasn't a dream but rather my fears and mind were busy playing a sick game with me. I did not bother trying to sleep after that and just stayed awake the entire night with Aria sleeping in my arms. Asides from my fear that Ric might take my baby away from me, there is the fact that I have to tell Aria about him. I don't even know how to go about it. I didn't expect this day to come so soon. I didn't even expect Ric to show up at my door. I have always known that it won't take him much to find me that is if he ever looked for me. I wasn't very worried about him finding me though because he was way too drunk that night that I doubt he even remembered what happened
Riccardo's POV. I don't know the kind of reaction I expected from Aria but it definitely wasn't this attitude thing she had going on. Okay, scratch that, I know what I was expecting. I thought she would be excited, you know, I thought she would go 'Oh yay! I have a dad now' but obviously I thought wrong. My first mess-up was showing up late to a doughnut date that I did not even realize I had signed up for and she was already giving me so much attitude and I also don't understand why I am so concerned about her attitude. I am Riccardo De Luca. I should not be getting concerned over a tiny five-year-old giving me attitude and shit. I don't even get concerned about anything other than the issues that have to do with the Mafia. "You might want to slow down here. The doughnut shop is right around that corner." Emilia said snapping me out of my thoughts. Aria was silent throughout the entire ride. Her silence either has something to do with me or she was just really interested in whatev
