Margret stared at the man she had loved her entire life, the man she had given the presidency of Jing Entertainment, the man she had sacrificed her potential fame for, Daniel Scot, her ex-lover whom abandoned her the time she needed him the most.
Margret sneered, "Daniel, why would I explain what happened fifteen years ago? Were you not the one who refused to listen to me then?"
Daniel hung his head in shame, "I am sorry, Margret. I was young and stupid then. I want to listen now. Please, tell me what happened."
Margret scoffed, realizing how foolish Daniel had been. "Why would I do that? It's been fifteen years, and I have moved on. Please, you should do the same."
She turned away and began walking briskly when Daniel called out, "Wait..." Margret paused in her steps. "Don't you still love me?"
Margret refused to turn around. "I no longer love you, Daniel. The love I had for you died fifteen years ago, and it's not coming back."
Margret left, leaving Daniel standing there with a maniacal expression on his face.
"I can still see it in your eyes, Margret. You still love me. I made a mistake in marrying your sister, Brenda, but that doesn't mean we can't be together!" Daniel yelled and kicked a trash can.
As Margret got into her car, tears clogged her vision and she buried her head in her hands and silently sobbed. She raised her head and wiped the tears away, her expression now resolute. Starting the car, she drove off.
Inside the banquet hall, Charlie Snr looked around for Margret, and when he couldn't find her he called his PA, John."John, look for Margret Owen and bring her to me," Charlie ordered.
John replied, "Sir Charlie Snr, Margret Owen has left the banquet hall using the back door."
A smile appeared on Charlie Snr's face, "Go after her. I want to know where she lives and how she is doing."
John nodded and left the banquet hall.
Following her, John realized she had entered the biggest shopping mall in the city. He parked his car near hers and waited patiently.
Unknown to him, Margret had already put on a facial mask and changed her clothing to blend in as a shopper.
Picking up a few items, she returned to her another of her car and drove home, leaving John behind confused.
When Margret reached home, she was startled to find her two sons, Caleb and Celestine, curled together in the same bed.
As Caleb stirred in his sleep, he muttered sleepily, "I love you, mommy."
Margret smiled, and returned to her bedroom. Sleep claimed her soon after, until she was woken up by a loud noise the next morning.
She rubbed her puffy eyes in exhaustion, when suddenly the door burst open and Caleb ran in, carrying a laptop. Celestine followed him."Caleb, give me my laptop back, or I'll make you sorry!" Celestine yelled.
Margret smiled and hugged Caleb, who had his tongue stuck out at his brother and was clinging tightly to his laptop.
"Why are the two of you fighting by this time? Is this not what I've taught you?," Margret queried.Caleb and Celestine hung their heads guiltily and said in unison, "We're sorry, mommy. Good morning, best mother in the world."
A smile appeared on her beautiful face. "Good kids, come give mommy a hug."
Caleb, being the closest one, was the first to reach Margret. He put his small frame between her and Celestine in a slight barricade.
"Caleb, let your brother hug me too," Margret said, and Caleb retreated with a victorious smile spread across his face.
"I'm the first to hug you mom," he said and he ran out of the room, leaving Celestine's laptop on the bed.
Celestine hugged his mom and picked up his laptop. Hand in hand they left her bedroom and saw Caleb practising military exercises.
Celestine teased him, "What are you doing? You look so ugly in that posture!"
Caleb frowned and retorted, "What do you know? This is a standard military sit-up posture!"
Celestine reposted in midst of laughter "you want to be a soldier?"
Margret knew they will start bickering if she didn't stop them "there is no need for that, the both of you go and have your bath, I will be taking you out to register for a new high school so that the both of you could take the college entrance examination a few weeks from now"
"Okay, mommy" the both of them responded in unison.
Margret went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, after she was done serving the breakfast, Margret and her two sons sat down for breakfast. While Caleb was finished eating first, he jumped up and went to the door.
"Caleb, why are you in a hurry? I'm not yet done with my breakfast." Margret asked.
Caleb stopped at the door and replied, "I'm with your car keys, mom. I don't want stinky Celestine sitting at the front today."
He opened the door and left, leading Celestine to purse his lips tightly in displeasure. Margret comforted, "Don't take your brother's words seriously."
Celestine helped clear the plates, and soon enough, the three of them were on their way to their new high school.
When they arrived, they were directed to the registrar's block. Inside, a nerd middle-aged woman was busy sorting files when Margret and her sons arrived.
"Good morning, ma'am. I'd like to register my two sons," Margret said.
The nerd middle-aged woman didn't look up from her tasks. "What are their names?"
"Caleb and Celestine," Margret responded immediately.
The nerd middle-aged woman raised her head and her entire body froze in surprise. She looked directly at Caleb and greeted, "Sir Charlie Jr., good morning."
Caleb gave the woman a confused look, and she became more nervous. He craned his head behind before he turned back to the woman and asked, "Are you referring to me, madam?"
Margret squinted her eyes in understanding as she realized why the woman was so frightened, her son was mistaken for Charlie Jnr from the night before. "Ma'am, this is not Charlie Jnr, this is my son," Margret said in a calming tone. The nerd middle-aged woman stiffly sat on her seat and quickly registered Caleb and Celestine with her full attention. "Where should I pay the fees?" Margret asked. The woman waved her hand and shook her head, "There is no need for that, this school owes a lot to your family." Margret hesitated, Celestine chimed in "mom, if she doesn't want the fee, there is no need to force her to accept, lets go, we will be late for our classes if we continue staying here" she agreed and finished the necessary paperwork. After waving goodbye to their teachers, she left the school. The moment she sat in her car and started the engine her phone rang. "Klaus, is anything the matter?" she asked, expecting the worse. The voice on the other line said, "Margret darlin
Margret extinguished the rebellious thought she was nursing.with a palpable sense of dread, she kept her head covered and endured the long car ride. The fleet of cars came to a halt in a magnificent mansion, "get out!" the man at the backside with Margret ordered coldly.Margret alighted from the car using her sharpened instincts by martial arts, because her sight was covered, she couldn't see the endearing beauty of the mansion.A man in his late sixties led two burly men wearing white suits out of the mansion, they met with Margret. The Butler of the White family bowed his head and said apologetically "sorry Miss Margret Owen, our protocol is very rigid that doesn't mean, you are not our distinguished guest."corners of Margret's lips twitched, the Butler didn't see the change in her facial expression because her face was covered."Come with me," the Butler said and motioned the two burly men wearing white suits to bring Margret along.Margret followed them into the magnificent man
Charlie Snr. furrowed his eyebrows in contemplation, his mind racing as he tried to remember any sons he knew who attended Garden High School. After a few moments, he finally turned to John and said in a demanding tone, "John, I need you to find out who the children are and how they are related to me. Do whatever it takes, but I need an answer by dusk. Is that clear?" John nodded his head and replied in a subdued but determined manner, "Yes, sir. I will work as quickly as I can." He bowed his head respectfully before turning and quickly leaving to fulfil the task. Charlie Snr. watched him leave and sighed, leaning back in his chair as he allowed himself to ponder the mystery. His eyes flickered with a faint glimmer of hope as he thought of the possibility of a new family member. ******* Margret arrived at Garden High School, the moment she stepped out of her car, she heard loud voices. To her surprise, her two sons, Caleb and Celestine, were running towards her. Margret smiled
Margret looked on in helplessness as Caleb stood in front of a little girl sitting beneath a tree. The teenager raised her head, squinting her eyes at the intruder's face, which was barely visible due to the bright sunlight.Caleb reached out and knocked the bread the girl was eating to the ground. The girl stared at the fallen bread with regret and sorrow. "Why are you eating spoiled bread? Why don't you go home and ask your mommy for food?" Caleb spoke to the girl with a smile.Tears welled up in the girl's eyes, and she cried, "That is the only food I've eaten for days. My mom is sick, and no one wants to employ me because I'm underage. A kind woman gave me the spoiled bread, and now you've thrown it away."Caleb frowned, realizing the situation was direr than he thought. He took a deep breath and said, "Here, take this." Caleb held out a wad of money, and the girl's eyes widened in shock.Margret called out to Caleb in concern, "Caleb, what are you doing over there? Who are you ta
Margret entered the coffee store with a disguised appearance and made her way directly to the only private room in the establishment. She knocked twice on the door, and a deep voice from within granted her permission to enter. Upon opening the door, she found a man with a stoic facial expression seated firmly in a chair. "You're here, Margaret. I ordered some coffee for us," he said to her. She politely declined, shaking her head and explaining that she had already consumed too much for the day and wouldn't be partaking in any more. Silver chuckled in response to Margret's rejection and quipped, "You're still wary of me, Margret. Why don't you trust me? We've known each other for years now, and you're like a sister to me." Margret forced a smile and replied in a perfunctory manner, "I'm not wary of you. I just have an upset stomach. Can we talk now?" Silver nodded, and his demeanour shifted drastically. Margret placed photos of Millicent Ferguson on the table. "I've been searchin
Celestine hailed a taxi and instructed the driver to take him to his home address. Upon arriving, he stepped out of the vehicle and saw Caleb emerging from the gate. Caleb's tone was accusatory as he confronted Celestine, "Why didn't you answer your phone? Mom was worried sick about you."In a haughty manner, Celestine retorted, "Why are you scolding me? I didn't even know it was you who called."Caleb rolled his eyes and turned to leave, saying, "I can't be bothered with you."Celestine immediately pulled out his phone and dialled his mother's number. "Mom, I'm home. Where did you go?"Margret's voice came through the phone's speaker, "Thank goodness! I'll be right back."After ending the call, Celestine walked into the house, oblivious to the fact that a girl was hiding and watching him.Caleb and Celestine were sitting in front of the television when Margret came back home. As soon as they saw her, they stood up and welcomed her with open arms, "Welcome, mommy!"Margret smiled brig
As Mrs. Charlie Snr tried to approach Margret and her sons, her Senior Personal Assistant spoke up, "Madam, the boy standing over there is not your son, Sir Charlie Jr."Mrs. Charlie gave him a cold glare, causing him to shrink his neck. She asked in a stern tone, "And who said I am not aware of that fact?"The mall manager began to sweat profusely, having heard of the infamous temper of the daughter-in-law of the Whites family. Just as Mrs. Charlie was about to give an order, her phone rang. One of her bodyguards holding her phone stepped forward and said, "Madam, it's a call from Madame Agnes."As soon as Mrs. Charlie Snr heard who the caller is, her face turned pale with fear. Without wasting any time, she hastily picked up the phone and answered the call."Mom," she said in a fawning tone.Madame Agnes' voice came through the phone's speaker, "Chloe, I know you're at the mall and that you have seen a woman with her sons who looks exactly like your husband. Is that correct?"Chloe
As Celestine turned around, he was surprised to see a familiar face. He squinted his eyes and recognized the girl whom Caleb had met under the tree the other day."Hi, my name is Caleb," he introduced himself."Nice to meet you, I'm Stella," she responded and extended her slender arm for a handshake.Although hesitant at first, Celestine shook her hand and they began to chat. Eventually, Stella suggested they move away from the street, and invited Celestine to her house to meet her mother. After giving it some thought, Celestine agreed. He saw no harm in making friends with a beautiful girl who lived in the neighbourhood.Stella and Celestine made their way towards a run-down bungalow, its rusted gate creaking as they pushed it open. Stella's nerves were evident as she spoke, "Please don't be put off by the state of the place. It's not always like this. I hope you'll be comfortable here."As they walked, Stella couldn't help but compare Caleb's living conditions with her own. Her self
