Sophie watched as Mitchell walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and answered the phone.

As he turned to the side, the light cast shadows on his chiseled face. Still, he was handsome enough to mesmerize anyone and make their hearts race with joy.

But Sophie felt no joy in her heart at that moment. That familiar phone number haunted her mind. Although she had only seen a few digits, she had a gut feeling that it was Mandy.

As if to confirm her suspicions, Mitchell's expression suddenly softened after listening to the voice on the other end of the line.

Though Sophie couldn't discern the emotions in his eyes, she could imagine they were filled with tenderness, a sight she had never seen before.

When Mitchell returned to the table, the sweetness that had risen in Sophie's heart earlier vanished, leaving behind only bitterness. Even the food in her mouth tasted sour.
