Chapter 5: Dark Coffee Bean Eyes

.

Opening the door, he tried his best not to make any sounds as he pokes his head in the room, seeing the male sprawled on the bed still fast asleep. He then tiptoed towards the sleeping figure and hovers over him. Observing, Iandor’s mouth was parted a little with dried drool that was visible at the corner of his lips. The dishevelled hair makes him look more like a child, not to mention his face was puffy yet it has this glowing essence radiating from it. Alfie wanted to pinch his cheeks so bad.

Kneeling beside the bed, he leans in forward till he was close enough to whisper in Iandor’s ear. "Ian."

"Mhmmm.", Iandor groaned after he felt the warm breath tickling his earlobe. Feeling annoyed, he pulls back the covers up to his face.

"Ian, wake up.", he whispered a little louder this time, shaking along the auburn-haired male's arm. Unfortunately, he earned nothing but another groan from beneath the covers.

Alfie huffed out, he tried every trick in the book but nothing worked. From the classic tickling to the obnoxious sound of plastic plates being banged loudly near his ears, it all lead to a more frustrated Alfie and a still dead Iandor. Alright, desperate times calls for desperate measures. The younger made his way to the tempered glass windows and tugs on the curtains letting the light shine through it, directly hitting Iandor’s face. Okay, Iandor flinched.

But he still needs to be fully awake.

Alfie then opens the sliding windows and instantly a breeze of cool morning air enters the bedroom.

"Its cold!", he cried out all the while stretching and yawning like a kitten. The streaks of sun lights up the dark room. Warm balls of light filtered through his thin eyelids finally awoke him. Rays of brightness cast a square shape onto the oak floor, reflecting onto several objects in the room.

Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he blinked a few times, trying to adjust to his surroundings and he immediately spots Alfie who was standing at the end of the bed with his hands on his hips. "Wait..why are you wearing your jacket?", he groggily speaks.

"Good morning to you too, princess. Get up and get dress.", he commands but its funny how he crawls onto the bed, draping himself over Iandor’s legs.

"Where are we going?", he asked as he ruffles the honey blonde locks.

"You'll see. Just hurry and meet me downstairs.", Alfie gets up and heads towards the door.

After ten minutes of waiting, the sound of the front door opening caught his attention.

"Jay’s scarf looks really good on you.", Alfie stated when he sees Iandor fumbling with the loose thread. His boots crunching over the snow on the steps as he comes down the house.

Hearing the simple compliment, Iandor immediately stopped dead in his tracks. Even though they were only a few feet apart, Alfie could see the blush that was starting to bloom over Iandor’s pale face. "Huh? Oh..Jay said i could wear it since i don't have a scarf of my own.", he walks closer towards the taller after regaining composure.

Alfie only gave him his endearing boxy smile, Iandor just looks utterly adorable in that scarf. Not just the scarf, he was bundled up in Frankie’s old green sweater which was way too big for his size and a black beanie over his head. "Lets go!"

They walk together in a comfortable silence. Iandor looks back for a second, the house gradually gets smaller and smaller as they walk further into the white forest. Feeling like its been twenty minutes of walking, Iandor noticed that the forest was getting denser when Alfie pushed away some lower branches of the pine trees revealing some small bushes and shrubs. "Uhm..Alfie..where are we exactly?", he said in a panicked tone.

"Come on, we just need to pass through here.", he said as he crawled under the shrubs that has a small opening. It was quite obvious that the small gap was there for some time, you could tell by how the small branches were meshed together.

Iandor was hesitant for a moment, but when he sees Alfie’s slim body was completely engulfed by the snow covered greens, he had no options but to just follow the latter.

And what he sees next was definitely not what he had expected. It was far beyond his expectations really.

Before him was another snowy forest, no, it was actually a small marshmallow-white paradise. The pine tress were lined up in a circle with an opening in the center where sunlight just generously pours in. The ground was covered in blankets of snow, where it was literally just pure white snow throughout the whole perimeter.

Despite all that, what really took Iandor’s breath away was the frozen pond in the middle. From a distance, the edges of the pond was glittering with sparkles from the ice that has the sun shining through them. The scenery was simple, yet in Iandor’s eyes they were elegant and it was truly a magical place.

Alfie grabbed Iandor’s hand, it was then the latter realized that his jaw had dropped the whole time. "This is actually our secret hideout.", he said as he pulled Iandor to a hammock that was tied to two bigger pine tress. Brushing away the snow (its been a while since he has been here), Alfie sits Iandor down on it.

"Our?"

"Me and Jay.", he smiled, sitting next to Iandor in the suspended bed.

Iandor held his head up, breathing in the marvellous view. "Its beautiful, Alfie."

He smiled. "To tell you the truth, none of us are related by blood. All of us were together thanks to Frankie, Christopher and then Zachary.", Alfie suddenly said. "Frankie and Zachary were like childhood friends, they grew up together after their parents were killed in a fire in their home. Both of them survived the tragic disaster and stayed together till they then met Christopher.", Alfie shifted his arm over Iandor’s shoulders when he felt him snuggling in closer, seeking warmth.

"Get this, Frankie and Christopher met because of Nicholas.", he grinned.

"No way.", Iandor said in awe after silently absorbing himself in Alfie’s story.

"Believe it. Actually, Nicholas came from a rich and powerful family. A big house, endless stock of food, a father and mother to rely on, basically everything that was needed. Only their family lacks one thing, and that is love. What's even sad was, it’s the fact Nicholas was an only child and it made him even more desperate for love and care as he grows up."

Iandor nods, encouraging the other to continue the story. "Then Nicholas met Zachary in a convenient store when they actually swapped the things they bought. It was even more hillarious that Zachary was the one who notices it and has to run after Nicholas who was already walking out the store. He instantly runs in front of Nicholas and blocks his way, claiming they had exchanged purchases. And in that moment, both of them looked into each other's eyes and instantly fell in love.", Alfie cringed a little, hearing himself telling the sappy story.

"Tell me more!", Iandor exclaimed, followed by a giggle.

"After fighting with his parents, convincing them that Zachary was a nice guy and could provide him with the love his parents couldn't give, Nicholas finally got his parents approval to be with Zachary. At the time, the house that we currently live in was an old abandon cabin but Nicholas’s parents helped out in refurbishing the old place, making it a two-storey house."

"The part where he got Frankie and Christopher together was really sweet and it gets me every time. It took them a while to see that they actually harbor mutual feelings for each other, and with Nicholas’s help they were able to finally confess."

"What did he do?", Iandor asked curiously.

Alfie gave him a lopsided smile. "Nicholas  trapped them in a closet and shouted 'I know you like each other, confess and get on with it!'.", Alfie immediately burst out into a laughing mess when he remembers the way Frankie glared at Nicholas for telling him the story before.

Iandor was left dumbfounded by the twist in Alfie’s storyline. Never would he imagine Nicholas to be very straightforward and Iandor couldn't help it when he joins the taller in a fit of giggles.

"What the..i would never thought that Nicholas would be so evil.", Iandor said as he wipes the tear at the corner of his eyes from too much laughing.

"I know right. Okay..okay. Moving on, you probably know this already but Jay was the last one to enter our family. Before he came, he was lost, wondering in the forest alone with nothing but himself.", Taehyung paused. "Zachary found him. He was so skinny and malnourished that Zachary didn't have the heart to leave him. He had a really hard time with us at first because he wasn't really the type to mingle with others. That is, except  for Zachary though.", the honey blonde male chuckled. "He won’t eat unless it was Zachary who fed him, he wouldn’t take a bath unless Zachary bathe him and he wont let anyone come near him in a five mile radius if that person wasn't Zachary.", he turns to face Iandor. "Try and imagine, Zachary being all gentle and soft.",

Iandor’s face instantly contorted in a mixture of somewhat confusion and horror.

Alfie lets out an amused laugh. "I get you and yes, that would never happen, not even in a billion years. But try adding Jay in the picture and you might just get the perfect view. Zachary doted and spoiled him so much that Jay once called him 'dad'. Of course Zachary was shocked by the slip of tongue but that never stopped him from loving Jay even more. So i guess that's why he has this fatherly bond with him."

"After Zachary coerced him to open up, Jay found himself getting more comfortable with all of us. Especially me and Frankie.", he adds.

"Does Jay not have his parents?", Iandor inquired. Eager to know more about the younger's background.

"He does, but he got outcast from them.", Alfie displayed a sad smile.

Iandor stopped playing with the ends of Jay’s scarf. "W-why?", he stuttered out.

"You see.", he started slowly. "His family doesn't accept same gender relationships, and being a teenager who was still trying to figure out himself, they found out Jay was more attracted to the same gender and was immediately thrown out from the family."

Iandor’s heart suddenly felt like it was wrapped in barbed wires. He could feel blood dripping out from the stabbed wounds. He knows the feeling. He knows what it felt like to be rejected by his own flesh and blood and even society itself. "Why are you telling me all this?"

Alfie stayed quite before he answered. "Its because we're a family now.", he simply stated.

A storm of emotions was rumbling inside of him. "Alfie, did it ever occur to you why i agree on staying with your family?", he gazed at the said male.

Confusion was written all over Alfie’s face, but soon replaced with realization. "Oh my god! Did we kept you away from your family or something?! Christopher should have known, why in the world would he-", Iandor cupped the former's cheeks, making him stop with his rambling.

"I'm glad i made the right choice for staying. Jay isn't the only one who suffered from that kind of loss. Thank you. Thank you for taking me in as one of your own.", Iandor was a sobbing mess, tears of mixed up emotions rolled down the expanses of his crimson cheeks.

Alfie felt sad at Iandor’s confession yet at the same time he never felt so relieved to be able to gain another family member and he wasted no time by pulling the auburn-haired male into a hug.

"I'm glad too, Ian."

--

"We're back!", Alfie exclaimed, seeing the others in the front yard having lunch on the bench. The sun was shining pretty strong, so the ice turned into a slushy mess and Frankie opted to have a mini picnic.

"Where did you guys went to?", Frankie asked worriedly.

"I took Ian somewhere.", he shrugged, but his eyes landed at Jay’s own, giving the younger a knowing look. Jay nods, secretly beckoning Iandor to sit next him.

The latter, however was oblivious, and Alfie seemingly suggested him to sit next to brown-haired male.

"How's the hideout?", Jay questioned the elder as soon as he lands his butt on the woody surface.

Iandor was startled for a second but manage to reply him. "It was gorgeous."

"So is it okay if we were to go there, together?", he confidently says.

Iandor turns his whole body so he was facing Jay. "You mean..", he gestures pointing to himself then back at Jay.

"Yep.", he chuckled.

--

And truth be told, Jay did brought Iandor back to the hideout the next morning.

"well Alfie was right, you do look really good in my scarf.", Jay informed, tightening the scarf around Iandor’s neck.

The rosy colour on his cheeks was his only response towards the younger. Little do they know, snowflakes were dancing around them in the wind, getting some in both Jay and Iandor’s hair.

The elder dips his head backwards and closes his eyes as he enjoys the cool icy frost lands over his face.

"Ian, you're gonna strain your neck if you keep doing like that.", Jay said in a matter-of-fact tone, as his breath came out in puffs of clouds. He gently places his hand behind Iandor’s head and pulls him forward. The younger was suddenly breathless as he drinks in the stunning sight in front of him. Iandor’s bangs were sticking out from there original place, his face was all rosy but his cheeks were more of a burgundy shade, bits of snowflakes were all over the place and oh?

Jay leans in closer into the elder's personal place, they were mere inches apart where hot breaths were exchanged with a hint of lavender invading their nostrils. "Hey..you have a few snowflakes on your nose.", Jay hushed out with his husky voice that was much more lower and kinda sensual then his original voice.

Oddly for Iandor, he didn't do anything drastic except the fact that he fluttered his eyes close and leans in a little bit more.

He could feel the sudden warmth. The warmth of Jay’s lips were brushing over his nose, melting the delicate frost till it turns into a droplet of water that was absorb into the younger's pink lips.

His heart hammered in his chest, his hands were curled up into fists and he swears the blood had stop circulating in his veins. "Jay-"

A rustling sound suddenly came from the bushes that they entered before. Low growls and a high pitched howl rang in their ears. Jay instantly pushes Iandor behind his back, protecting him from the sudden visitors. "Shit. This place is really secluded, how did they found out?", Jay said, more like talking to himself.

In a blink of an eye, one wolf lunges forward and was aiming for Iandor but Jay was faster. He shielded the elder as the nails of the wolf digs into Jay’s right shoulder, causing him to utter out strings of profanities.

The elder tightens his hold on Jay’s other arm, as he tried to stand up straight and tries his best to be on his toes, unsuspectedly another blow was given but it didn't hit the younger.

It hit Iandor, right over his thigh. Jay was stunned, seeing the petite male falling to the ground as blood was gushing out from his wound.

The feeling of shocked promptly changed into anger.

Jay who was kneeling over the elder lets out a sharp cry which gradually turns into a low guttural growl, bones cracking and skin was replaced with a thick coat of grey and white, fangs were poking out as he growls, not forgetting both hands and feet were turned into paws and its eyes.

Dark coffee bean eyes was extinguished as a fiery amber gold glowing in its wake, ready to kill.
