Rhoda got dressed and walked out of her husband's house. He had gone to work and since she had no work to do, she spent most of her time with her boyfriend who had no idea about her sudden marriage yet.
Nas, her boyfriend, also arrived in the country a few days after her marriage. Rhoda knew she should keep no secret from him, but not something like marriage. She knew him well enough. He was quick to make decisions. He was very quick to jump to conclusions. She could lose him and that was the least thing she wanted. She pressed the ignition button on her car and drove out of the compound, making her way onto the road. She could not stop grinning from ear to ear and humming throughout the drive to Nas' house. She slighted from her car and walked into the house. She must confess that she loved the house even though it was nowhere near her husband's. Jeff was a billionaire, but her boyfriend wasn't and that was perfectly fine. She still finds it hard to believe that he was the owner of the house. He had made it a surprise and had not talked to her about it until the first time she was here. And he had revealed his intention of them moving in after their marriage. Not that he was going to marry her soon, though. He was studying to become a chartered accountant. According to him, he wanted to become more established before getting married. Nas was goal-driven and that was a good thing for her. Perhaps, she would have found a way to get herself out of the mess of a marriage she had gotten herself into. Rhoda saw him in the living room and her smile broadened. She rushed over and hugged him. "Hey, baby!" She said, "I missed you."Rhoda pouted her lips. "So, you don't believe me?"Nas chuckled. "I do, ma'am," he said and held her hands, placing gentle kisses on the back of her hands. Rhoda suddenly started feeling guilty about everything. Maybe she should tell him about the marriage. He might understand. No. He would understand because he loved her. And who knows? He might be able to come up with the perfect solution to get out of the marriage. She sighed. She should gather every ounce of courage she had.Nas leaned over and kissed her on the lips a few times before standing up with a smile. "I should get you a drink."Rhoda sighed again. Maybe she should tell him later. "Rho?" Nas called. She glanced up. "Huh?"He sat back down. "What's wrong? You keep sighing."Rhoda felt more guilty. He was too kind to be hurt. She suppressed another sigh. She was about to tell him nothing was wrong, but he cut in before she could utter a word."Rho," he knew she loved being called Rho. "Don't tell me nothing is wrong. You know I won't buy that."She nodded. She should just spill the beans. "Okay. Do you trust me?"Nas smiled. "You know I do.""Okay. You also know I love you, right?" She asked, fighting the urge to cry.Nas smiled and held her hands. "I know. We've been together for four years. How could I not know that? Just tell me what the problem is, babe.""I… uhm… I feel so terrible right now, babe. But I do not want to lose you. I really don't want to," she cried.Nas drew her closer to him and gave her a hug. "You won't lose me, baby. I promise."That calmed her down a little. Nas was always a man of his word. She just hoped that would be the case at the moment. She pulled back and looked at him. He wiped her tears with his thumbs."My parents got me married the day I arrived in the country," she confessed and stared keenly at him to see his reaction. His face went blank. His fingers froze on her cheeks before dropping. "What?" He asked, but she said nothing. "What do you mean? I mean, uh… I don't understand you. I must have heard you wrong," he said and smiled briefly.Rhoda started crying. "You did. I… am... married,"she sobbed and explained everything to him, without leaving out a single detail. It took him a while before he opened his mouth and recovered from the shock. But what he said shocked her more."Let's break up, Rhoda."Rhoda was shocked. He only called her by her full name when he was talking about something serious. But how could he be serious about breaking up? Maybe she heard wrong. "Wh.. what?" Her voice came out as a broken whisper. He stood up. That meant the end of their discussion, but Rhoda wasn't done. "No!" She sprang to her feet and went to stand before him. "Please. You can't do this to me.""Really? Well, I clearly did not expect you to get married to someone else and lied that it was arranged, either.""No, babe. It's not a lie. Please, don't break up with me, I beg you." She got on her knees and pleaded. "Nas, I love you, please. You promised that I won't lose you.""I never thought it would be a drama."She looked up at him from the ground. "Dr..drama?""Yeah. It's obvious you've been cheating on me and that's why you didn't tell me about it. I just don't understand why you would make up a story like that, you cheat!" He screamed."Nas, no! Listen to me, I…""You know I should have never trusted you in the first place. What commitment was I expecting from someone who was deprived of parental love? I am so disappointed in you, babe. And I hate you so much for this. You're just a whore!" With that, he dragged his leg from her grip and walked out on her, but not before saying, "See yourself out and never come back.""Mum, please. Get me out of the marriage. I don't want it, please," Rhoda pleaded with her mother. She had decided to go to her parents' house since they were the one who could get her out of the mess she was in. She could not bear to lose her boyfriend. Not after building a strong relationship with him for years. Not after their plans to get married. Not after everything they had been through together. She understood him. She could have done worse in his shoes. He would come to his senses and take her back. She knew he would. He was just angry at the moment. He wouldn't just throw away everything they had just like that. Her mother hugged her and patted her back. "I am sorry, Rhoda, but there is nothing I can do about this. We talked about this and you agreed to it, remember?"Why was she talking as if she agreed because she wanted it? Did she even care about her happiness at all? "How about dad?""His business is just starting to do well, my dear. We're also doing this for you."
Jeffery's eyes became wide open in shock at the kiss. What had gotten over her? Before he could push her back, she withdrew and faced Karen's burning eyes. "How dare you!" Karen roared before glaring at Jeff for not doing anything about it. Rhoda smiled. "You wanted to know who I am. I am his wife. She opened her purse secretly as she talked and put on her wedding ring and showed it to her. "We're married, so…"Jeff covered her mouth with his palm. "Shut the fuck up or else…" He watched as Karen walked in and was back within seconds. With her bag. He held her hand and tried to explain what had just happened, but she wasn't ready to listen."It would have been a different case if she was your girlfriend. But… your wife? Like, marriage?" Karen shouted. "How could you do this to me? You got married to someone else while I was out of town and you even have the nerve to keep it from me and… and… Just fuck off, Jeffrey." She started walking down the stairs, still in his shirt, but that di
Rhoda got out of bed, went to the shower and started getting ready for the day. Not that she had anything to do in particular. She was going to watch TV series, read and sleep all day. She was trying her best and was giving it her all not to stay heartbroken. She would do whatever she had to in order to get Nas off her mind.Even if she had to take it all on her husband. She walked out of her room and passed by Jeff's door to go to the living down the stairs, but the door which was slightly opened made her stop and take a few steps back to give her enough view of what he was doing. She saw him as he answered his call, looking all serious as he talked into the phone. "Asshole" was all that came out of her mouth. She watched intently as he walked in and out of his live-in closet, bringing out different suits to put on. ""Yeah. I'll be there in an hour. Sure, I'll be there. It's an important deal," she heard him say and had started walking away before an idea struck her.The best way
"Believe me, I'll run to New York if I can right now. That's how much I missed you, Aunt Martha," Rhoda smiled as she said into the phone. After having the heated argument with Jeff, he had angrily walked out of her sight into his room and had not come out ever since. That was about four hours ago, but did she care about that? Heck no!"So, how is it going in your marriage, my dear?" Her aunt asked, making her adjust on her seat and sighed. She smiled as she replied. "It is annoying, but… ugh! I can't complain," she said and shrugged. "I understand you, darling. And I am very sorry that happened to you —," she was still talking when Rhoda saw her husband walking out of his room and started walking towards her when he sighted her. Her mouth became wide open at the sight of Jeff's skin and very pale face. What was wrong with him? All of his visible skin was swollen and sore except his face.Rhoda jumped to her feet. "I'll give you a call back. My husband seems sick," she said. "Alri
Branson smiled as he looked from his son to his wife. He got to where they were standing and hugged them both. "Why are your faces like that? Are you that surprised to see me?" He asked them."No, not that. We just didn't expect to meet you here," Jeff replied and his wife nodded in agreement. "Yeah," Rhoda agreed with her husband as she got closer to him. "We didn't expect to see you here, sir.""I went in to see the boy," he told Jeff, referring to Doctor Matt. "He said I need to watch my sugar intake.""Oh! That's good. Uhm…. If he tells you that, then I think you really should watch it," Jeff said, hoping they would leave soon before he put them in an uncomfortable situation. His father would not be too pleased to know that they haven't been getting along. That would be disastrous for the two of them."Hold on—" Branson cut in. "What are those red and ugly spots in your body, son? Is that why you're here?" Branson asked, making Rhoda scratch the back of her neck."Yes. I made a m
Jeff made calls to all of the friends he knew he had and asked them to invite everyone they knew, including strangers, to the sudden party he would be having overnight in his house. And as he made the call discreetly in the kitchen to Francis, he asked him why he suddenly wanted to throw an overnight party. Before he could reply, his wife walked into the kitchen and poured herself a glass of water. "Why are you asking me that? I don't have to tell you… uhm..now. We'll talk better in person," he said as he met Rhoda's eyes. She refused to look away as she gulped down the glass of water. That annoyed him, so he added, "Don't forget, buddy, everyone you know. I mean, everyone you can think of."Since Rhoda didn't understand what he was saying, she excused herself and walked out of the kitchen.Jeff gave her a deadly glare as she went. He was ready to pay her back and what he was about to do was just a tip of an iceberg. He would never let her rest. He was more than willing to show her t
Weeks went by and their bantering didn't stop. Jeff had even lost count. There was no hope of them ever getting along. And they were both fine about that. Or so, they thought. Rhoda glared at her husband as he descended down the stairs in his business suit with his suitcase in one hand. He did not have his tie tied, and she would have helped him out if he was his wife. But unfortunately, she wasn't. That was something she would have loved to help her husband with if she had married for love. If she hadn't found herself marrying an asshole. She might have even considered helping him if they got along quite well, but no. So, it was not necessary. They were not close to the extent of helping him with something like that. Not even close to the extent of giving him breakfast, lunch or dinner. They were not even close enough to exchange numbers. At least, they knew each other's names."Rhoda," her husband called."Jeffery," she replied sarcastically.Jeffrey looked at her with the way she
That was the smoothest lie Jeffrey had ever heard. He looked at Rhoda before biting his lower lip. "I am sorry I disturbed your…. Uhm," he stretched his hand towards the sofa. "Feel free to continue. Don't mind me. I'll be upstairs," he said and walked out of their presence. He had to come back home since the trip he was planning on going on had been canceled. He decided to come home early and take the day off instead of resuming back to work. But walking in on Rhoda like that made him remember why they had to get married again. That was all bullshit to him, though. Especially the fact that he got to know the reason he married after the wedding. Her family business was going down the drain and if his father wanted to help, he should do so without getting something as huge as a marriage in return. That was all bullshit to him. Especially the fact that he got to know the reason he married after the wedding. He should have told him the reason beforehand. He shouldn't have blackmailed
