I went to see her again and found her crying as she cradled her son, who was now crying, too. “I’m sorry,” I whispered sincerely.

She looked up, tears streaming down her face, but there was a glimmer of something in her eyes, “You forgive me?” she asked, surprise lacing her tone.

I approached slowly, “I don’t know many things. Never knew about... about what happened in your life. I am sorry I got angry. I am sorry that I blamed you for what you did without giving things a thought. I’m very sorry for your loss.”

Her shoulders trembled as she held her son tighter. “Losing him changed everything.”

“You still have me,” I said, my eyes watered.

I felt a hand on my head and I turned, seeing Jake smiling down at me. “You’re very brave.” His grey eyes held warmth and admiration. “Now, do you want to hug your mother?”
