Chapter 14: This Is Our New Maid

Sarah’s POV

"Goodbye, Sarah." The words from Henry feel foreign in my ear, but I don't have to play along. I quickly turn back and rush towards the black car.

As I walk briskly, I can't shake off the unease that settles within me. I glance back at Henry and then look at the car. I have managed to keep myself away from them, but I cannot; I have to keep my puppet role, which Victor surely notices, and I fear the sneaky eyes that always stay on my back.

I reach Victor's side as I get in the car, my breath slightly ragged from the hurried pace. His piercing glance meets mine, and his eyes are filled with wonder and distrust.

"What's the rush?" he asks, his voice tinged with anger.

I ignore his question and fix my gaze on my feet. "Nothing."
