Chapter Four

Ethan had kept true to his words, he had locked me in that room all night and he had brought home a different woman to keep his company every night as well.

After that Monday, I hadn't even thought about going to work again. Our cycle just continued, he'd bring me food and lock the door whenever I was done eating.

He had taken my phone away from the first night I had gotten to this house, that was why Jake had not been able to reach me all those times and since that fateful Monday as well, Jake hadn't come back to ask about me.

It hurt because he believed everything I had said and the look on his face as I was crushing him haunts me every time I try to sleep in the night.

I couldn't believe this was what my life had now been reduced to, I was now more or less a prisoner in what was supposed to be my husband's house.

Today was Saturday and Ethan's new guest kept him busy all through the night as well. I didn't know how he was getting those girls, well I did. He was Ethan Robinson, he had the looks and money, but were they not aware that he was now married?

I was still in bed when I heard the lock start to turn, I sat up, he was here to drop breakfast for me. The door was opened and he came in with the tray that contained my food.

He smiled gently at me and for a minute, I was stunned, if only he wasn't an asshole, and if only all of this was real.

"Good morning Mrs. Robinson." He greeted me with happiness.

"Good morning Ethan." I had learned to answer him every time he talked, failure to do so always set him off.

"How was your night? Did you have a lovely night? I sure enjoyed my night." He went on further to gloat, but I couldn't do anything, so I just nodded in response.

"I brought you breakfast, so go ahead and eat it before it gets cold, we have a lot to discuss." He told me and set the tray down on my nightstand.

Although the food always repulsed me, I always forced myself to eat it. I started eating and he started walking about the room. There wasn't anything in the room, it was empty and bare, just like my life was at the moment.

"There's a party this evening," Ethan started, "my mum is organizing it and it's to celebrate our wedding ceremony." He finished and I spat out the contents of my mouth immediately, staring at him wide-eyed.

"What?" I asked dumbly.

He looked at me and the mess I had made in disgust and took a step away from me, "I said my mother is organizing a party for us to celebrate our wedding. Since we had a private wedding, she's now inviting more people to this one."

"And we're going?" I asked again without thinking.

He groaned and rolled his eyes, "Of course, we're going, Kate. It's to celebrate our wedding, isn't it?"

"Of course. I'm sorry, I spoke without thinking." I apologized.

"You always speak without thinking, I don't know why I'm still surprised at this point. Hurry up anyways, we leave immediately after breakfast." He barked at me and left the room.

I was happy to finally step out of the house, I hadn't been outside in two weeks. I was suffocated and I knew a little sunlight and fresh air would lift my mood.

I quickly ate the rest of my food and I was ready in the next twenty minutes.

I went downstairs and I sat in the living area waiting for Ethan. He joined me downstairs not long after and he looked at me disapprovingly when he saw me.

"Couldn't you have gotten anything better to wear?"

My once-happy mood turned sour immediately after his comment.

"I'm sorry," I mumbled an apology to him.

"Whatever. Let's go."

We went to the underground parking lot where a car was parked and ready for us. The car drove off once we were seated inside, and we began our day.

Ethan took me to this designer shop to get a fit and I tried different dresses but I eventually settled for a baby blue ball gown.

After we got a dress, he took me to a hair salon to get my hair and make-up done. The whole transformation took about four hours but when I saw myself at the end of it all, it was worth it.

We went straight to the venue where the party was going to hold and Ethan escorted me to the entrance, "Make sure you put on a good show and make sure nobody suspects anything. I can still do worse than just lock you up in that comfy room." He growled in my ear and I gulped harshly but nodded.

"Now smile and be the good wife you're expected to be."

I did as he said and when he was pleased, he nodded at the security detail stood by the door and they opened the door for us.

The ballroom was well-lit and beautifully decorated. People started greeting us the moment we stepped inside, we smiled politely and thanked them.

We spotted my dad and Stephanie first, Ethan pulled us in their direction and since there was nothing I could do, I just followed him.

"Good day, Mr and Mrs. Miller." He greeted them politely and we all exchanged pleasantries.

I don't know if I was expecting something but Dad was just standoffish towards me and it hurt me but I still maintained a brave face.

"How's Jake?" I asked Stephanie.

She turned to me, "Why are you asking about Jake when your husband is right here?" She asked accusingly.

"No, I haven't heard from him since the last time he showed up at the penthouse. I just want to make sure he's okay." I tried to explain myself.

"Thank you Kate but Jake is doing just fine. He's even managed to find a lovely girl for himself." Stephanie gloated at me.

"Oh, as long as he's happy," I told Stephanie and kept quiet after.

"Please excuse us, we have other guests to attend to." We left them and we were on our way after.

"Ethan!" Ethan's mum yelled and came charging toward us as soon as she spotted us. She pulled me in for a hug when she reached us.

"You look so beautiful, Kate." She told me.

I smiled politely at her and responded, "So do you Mrs Robinson."

Before the conversation could go further, we were called upon to come and dance. Ethan grabbed my hand and we made our way to the dancefloor.

We danced for what felt like hours and I excused myself from the stranger I was dancing with. I walked towards the balcony to get some fresh air.

"Tired?"

A voice asked behind me, making me jump in fright, "Relax, it's Liam, I'm Ethan's brother." He told me. I didn't completely lower my guard but I relaxed a little bit.

"So how does it feel to be married to the great Ethan Robinson?"

"It feels nice I guess. He's been so good to me and I couldn't ask for anything else." I felt bile rising to my throat as I spat out these lies but there was nothing I could do.

Liam sighed heavily, "He's been maltreating you, hasn't he?" I guess he saw right through my lies.

I teared up and nodded quietly, "Come here." Liam opened his arms for me and I stepped into the hug.

His presence comforted me, even though he was a stranger, I was still relaxed with him.

"I told him not to be a shitty husband to you. I know this doesn't excuse everything he has done, but Ethan has issues when it comes to trying to build relationships, especially with women."

"Why?"

"Because of Lucy."

"Who's Lucy?" I asked him.

"Someone Ethan had given his love to but she only ended up betraying him." He explained vaguely but I understood already.

"What happened between Ethan and Lucy?" I asked wanting to know more but before Liam could answer me, a voice interrupted us from behind.

"What did you just say?" I turned around and I saw Ethan looking between me and his brother, he was red in the face and I knew he was going to do something I wouldn't like tonight.
