Broken Trust

Emilio woke up to the sound of Skylar’s loud voice, yelling at the children. He quickly made his way down the stairs and to the kitchen where he could here her heavy footsteps pacing back and forth in the kitchen. As he entered, he noticed her slumped shoulders and puffy eyes, a stark contrast to her usual bubbly self. The children, were now quietly sitter at the table, surprise marring their faces, with the exception of Lorenzo who looked ready to cry.

“Morning, Skylar. Everything okay?” Emilio asked, concern evident in his voice.

Skylar forced a weak smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “Yeah, just tired,” she replied, her voice devoid of its usual enthusiasm.

But Emilio wasn’t convinced. He watched as Skylar snapped at the kids several times, for being too loud, something she never did. Concern turned to alarm. “Skylar, what’s going on? You’re not yourself today.”
