***Natalie's POV***Two days after, the sound of chirping birds woke me up. It was Monday and I was to get ready for work. Checking the alarm clock that stood close to my bed, I roved my eyes to see the time. Thank God it was 5:30 am! I needed more sleep and I definitely wasn't ready to step my foot in Venus Group today. I was simply avoiding Maurice. I tossed on my bed, clinging tightly to my giant pink teddy bear and even when I tried to catch some sleep, sleep never came. My thoughts wandered on Maurice, to Kevin and then to Jane. ‘Was I a bad person to have soiled her plans on having Maurice as her man?'I still couldn't bring myself to answer that. The alarm clock came blaring soon, and it was only then I discovered I had been tossing for an hour. “Urrrrgggh!" I groaned, covering my ears with my pillow and trying to put off the damn clock with my left hand. The alarm clock seemed far and I kept stretching my arm till I landed on the floor. “Oucch! Shit!"That same moment,
****Kevin's POV****Natalie was beaming with smiles, alongside my mom at a corner in my room. In three days, I will be getting married to the only woman who had been able to capture my heart. For the past years, I never retained any woman I slept with, but Natalie was different. The first time I found out about her, her identity and face struck my fancy and then it multiplied when I realised she was my first love in High School, and we were oportuned to meet again.I sighed, ‘I should have put an end to my plan then, right?' Hapless as I was, I couldn't.Natalie had built a very cordial relationship with my mom, the very moment they met at my place. Today was their second time meeting. “My pretty pretty daughter in law!" My mom teased. Natalie smiled widely in return, I could tell from where I stood that she was blushing. “Let me leave you both to get the privacy that you need" my mom continued, winking playfully. Natalie and I shared eye contacts. “Catch y'all later, okay?!"
****Natalie's POV****Avoiding Maurice since the event at the beach was successful until today. It was the eve of my wedding and despite badly wanting to avoid the office, I needed to clear an important document on my desk. The building the Fidell's had offered us were sparsely furnished with smart technology like theirs, bigger and better than the former company. As I worked on my document briskly, I heard the low level staffs discussing in low tunes. “This office is way bigger than the one we earlier worked from! Should we be happy the fire had razed the former office instead?" A staff jocularly asked and the others roared out laughing. I knew it came from Judas, the stout long haired messenger. He had worked in Venus Group for straight five years. Why would he say that to his colleagues? No wonder he was named Judas!. The masses had expressed their surprise on how we were able to bounce back in a couple of days. What was there to hide? My dad attended a few interviews and th
****Kevin's POV****Maurice stood looking at me, his eyes bright with fury. I saw him tight his fist and loosen it. “Let's get this damn meeting done!" He said, heading towards where I sat. “Of course we should, loser!"“Sit!" I ordered. Maurice stared menacingly at me for a few seconds, before he began to head to the empty bistro chair at my side. ‘Was this pauper thinking he could do anything stupid?!' I scoffed, sipping from my glass again before calling to one of my men. “Get another glass, Bill!" I ordered. Bill went in and in a flash he arrived with a glass in his hands, opening the bottle of spirit and pouring it to the empty glass. “I don't drink during business meetings" Maurice said. “Touché!" I chuckled, waving Bill away. Raising my glass, I spoke to Maurice “I'm only drinking because I am in a happy mood, boy! I mean... who won't be happy he's getting married to an absolute pearl like Natalie Escobar?!" I laughed, almost choking on my drink.Natalie's POV Quit
****Natalie's POV****The eerie sound kept ringing in my ears. ‘What just happened?' It took me a few minutes to realize Maurice who I thought had rode safely out of Kevin's abode was lying unconsciously in front of us, in the pool of his own blood. Everyone stood transfixed as I staggered to Maurice. Slowly, I began to whimper before my tears began to flow freely down my cheeks. “Mau... Mau...rice" I stuttered, shaking in utter confusion. “Mau...rice!" I shrieked, my voice piercing through the dark night. I jerked him repeatedly as I cried. Two of Kevin's aides moved forward to where I sat, already soiled by Maurice's blood. They took me out even when I was reluctant as Kevin has ordered, and began to lift Maurice up to place him in one of Kevin's car. The ambulance was yet to arrive. The moment the two men began to proceed to Kevin's car, we heard the sound of running footsteps. “Chase him! Make sure you catch that nincompoop!" Kevin ordered. Three of his other aides ran i
****Natalie's POV****The V.I.P ward of the The Oaks Medical Center was greatly sparse, neatly arranged and painted in white. While I walked to Maurice's bed, I found out that four other patients were present in the room. With two patients, placed on an oxygen machine and another on the farthest end who convulsed rigorously causing the people around her to panic and call for the doctor. Two nurses clad in blue scrubs came in first, a female and a male. The male made to check the equipment connected to the female patient, before the doctor arrived to find out what was amiss. I diverted my attention, glancing at the reason I had walked into the room in the first place. Maurice laid still without his glasses on. I could see the trace of his frame line at the side of his eyes. I fondled his hair tenderly, recollecting my time as a patient in the hospital. I took his hands in mine patting them warmly, still staring intently at his shut eyes. An hour later, Maurice's mother, Louisa Br
“Sir!" A tactical officer called the attention of Sebastian Wills. Standing at his door, which was widely opened. He was tall and huge and had the demeanor of a bouncer. Sebastian diverted his gaze from the file he had been peering at, and beckoned on him to get in. “Alvan..." He said, granting him permission to go on. Alvan began, “Just like I presumed, sir" he said. “The event that happened two nights ago has confirmed my research"“What research, Alvan?" Sebastian asked, folding his arms. “The heir of Zurich Corporations, Kevin Fidell, is the prime suspect. I think he is the gang leader we have been trying to get our hands on" Alvan continued. “Mmmmh..." Sebastian exclaimed, rubbing the side of his face and sucking his teeth. “That's true, I have been making my findings too"“However, he won't be the only one to be investigated on this issue" Sebastian continued. “There's more work for you and the boys, Alvan..."“Get the gun man too" Sebastian added, looking back to the
****Natalie's POV****On my way to the hospital, I had decided to get beverages for Maurice, alongside a bouquet of flowers as Maurice had always done. Inhaling the flowers when I got close to the VIP ward of the hospital, I was reminded of Maurice's predicament and current state of health. The sweet scent of the peonies were not enough to assuage the guilt I felt or my pity towards Maurice. I had said a short prayer with Mrs. MayFair, the favor I requested from her, and I strongly believed that even before I got to the hospital Maurice would regain his consciousness atleast. Main reason I had bought the beverages. My pace began to diminish and my smile faded when I discovered Jane was still very much around, sitting very close to Louisa. Her arms tucked in hers. It seemed like they had a very good relationship earlier on and she had been having a heart to heart conversation with her. My eyes scrolled through the hospital cabinet that was already loaded with fruit drinks, water
