Do you think Aolis will forgive her? She's obviously not going to make it on time. Updates daily.
I knew she wouldn’t come. I knew it, and yet, my heart aches that she doesn’t want me, that she isn’t here. I lay in my bed, knowing that tomorrow, I’ll be leaving for Eventide. I close my eyes and steel myself for what is to come. Lorelai is a good woman. She is strong, beautiful, her people love her and she will make a good queen. I try to keep her in my head, but it’s Lily’s face that keeps pushing its way in. Finally, I get up. I won’t get any sleep tonight. I go walking in the woods, my place of solace and peace. The stars in the sky are shining brightly tonight, as if they are mocking me and my pain. I pass the axolytol pool, glowing in the moonlight with all the different colors of the animals sleeping in the pond. As I get deeper into the woods, I hear more shuffling sounds, startled animals bolting away from me. We have deer here, similar to humans, but our deer are more majestic. The leader of our herd is the Ceryneian Hind, the deer of the humans’ Greek mythology. She h
As soon as I wake on Day 7, I grabb a quick bite of food and we start running again. We’re probably five to six hours away from Araphyra when we have to stop for the night. I’m antsy, knowing that today is my deadline. I’d rather run through the night, but considering the attack last night, we decide that it would be better to rest, take shifts and be prepared just in case. When the sun rises, I’m anxious to get going. Leana and Drake can sense my stress and they hurry to pack so we can begin running. We run until we’re on the outskirts of Araphyra. We stop to briefly to eat a quick snack before running to the front entrance of their country. When we get close enough to the gate, we shift and put clothes on. The entrance to Araphyra is in the middle of nowhere, a field with a gate that looks like it belongs on a farm. If you didn’t know better, you’d think it was a remanent of a previous dwelling. I walk up to the gate, impatiently waiting for the guard to come to the gate. I’ve bee
When I left the forest, I had gone back to the castle and gotten my bag. trying to leave without letting anyone know. But it feels like the entire castle knows that I’ve been rejected by my mate. Several of my warriors and many working around the castle stopped me to wish me well on my trip. I strap my sword to my back, putting my knives into the belt of my travel clothes, before pulling the strap of my bag across my chest and over my shoulder. I adjust everything so nothing is tugging and my sword is easily accessible if needed. Once I’m off the immediate grounds surrounding the castle, I begin to run, fast. I need to get away from here, away from the pain of Lily’s rejection and my own dashed hope that she’d show up. I pull on the elements, using the air and earth to speed my footsteps. It’s late afternoon when I arrive in Eventide. I approach the guard gate at the entrance of Eventide's lands. “Prince Aolis to see Duchess Lorelai.” I announce myself to them. “My Prince.” They sa
I have no idea where Eventide is, but I know Aolis’s scent. The longer I run, the stronger his scent becomes. When darkness settles over the forest, Hera finds a place to sleep, under a large tree. We are not familiar with these lands or the animals that inhabit them, so I have no intention of running blindly through a forest of creatures that may attack us. I’m nearly asleep when I feel Hera stiffen. She slowly opens her eyes and casually looks around without moving her head. ‘What is it, Hera?’ ‘We’re being watched.’ ‘Can you see them?’ ‘No, but I can smell them.’ I feel through our bond, noting that while she’s on alert, she’s not sensing any danger. “See, Jodan, I told you she was a Guardian. You can tell by their eyes.” “Only the Guardians have golden eyes.” “What do you think she’s doing here?” “I don’t know, should we ask her?” “Dominic never likes it when we bother him.” “He almost bit me last time I got too close.” “What do you think woke her up?” “You mean besid
In an elvish wedding, there’s a lot of discussion about our bonds, sharing our light, living together for centuries, and much more before the actual ceremony. I'm trying hard to focus, it’s my wedding day after all, but I just can’t seem to. We’re about to start saying our vows when we hear shouting in the hallway. I turn and look at Lord Elas. “Do we need to be concerned?” I ask him. My sword is in my room. I didn’t think I’d have a need for it here. “I’ll go see what this is about. Please continue.” He says. Just as he stands, the doors burst open. “Aolis, WAIT!” It takes me a moment. I’ve never seen Lily look like this. Her hair is a knotted mess, she’s wearing, no, not wearing, covered with what looks like one of the decorations from the hallway and she looks terrified. I pull my hands from Lorelai’s, noticing the tug as she tries to hold on to me. “Lily, what’s happened? Are you okay?” Has she been injured? I don’t smell blood, but what would have put her in this sort of co
As Hera runs out of Eventide, I couldn’t help but think of that kiss. How in the world had I ever thought of Aolis as a brother? The moment his lips had touched mine, the bond had flared, sending tingles throughout my body. It was as if they had been pent up and waiting to finally be able to show me what I’d been missing. My body had reacted to his touch, his mouth and I want more. ‘And now he smells like us.’ Hera says smugly as she runs. ‘Yeah. I’m not sure that is a good thing going back in to tell the woman he was about to marry that the wedding is off, smelling like us.’ ‘He is ours! She should never have touched what was ours.’ Hera snarls in my head. ‘Okay. Okay. Calm down.’ As Hera runs, the familiar rhythm of her paws hitting the ground soothes me. I wish I could have stayed with Aolis. I want nothing more than to complete the bond, making him mine. I’m reminded of a quote from one of the human movies Cayd is so fond of. “When you realize you want to spend the rest of you
When I walked back into the wedding room, Lorelai’s mother is on the alter sitting with her daughter, her arms wrapped around her. “Leave us.” I announce to the room quietly. Lorelai’s eyes raise to mine, and I know that she knows. Lord Elas comes to me as the others begin working their way out of the room. “Prince Aolis, please, we can figure something out.” I glance at him briefly. “I will speak with you after I have spoken to your daughter.” I stand, watching Lorelai until the room empties. When it does, she looks up at me with tears in her eyes. “She’s decided she wants you, hasn’t she?” She asks. “Yes.” She nods. “And you, being you, are willing to accept her, just like that.” “She’s my fated mate, Lorelai.” She stands, clasping her hands in front of her. “Why now? Why, when you had finally let her go, does she get to have this sway in your life?” It’s a good question for anyone that hasn’t found their fated mate. But I found mine. You can’t explain how much you feel fo
When I found Buppig, I shifted back. “Hey, I was hoping I’d find you. Can you help me get back to Araphyra?” I ask him. “I can. If you tell me what you’re doing here instead of with our Prince and how you got here so fast. I mean, I know your wolf is fast, but not that fast.” As we’re talking the other woodland creatures begin coming from all directions, saying hello to me. After saying my hellos back, I turn to Buppig. “So, how did you get here so fast?” He asks me again, his arms crossed. “Oh, I had the trolls help me.” All the chittering stops and they all stare at me. Buppig’s arms fall to his sides. “What do you mean, you had the trolls help you?” He asks me. I realize everyone is watching me. “Well, the bridge looked like it was about to fall down, so I asked Shengis and Heijen if they would help me and they did.” “Who are Shengis and Heijen?” A fairy asks me. “The trolls.” I say slowly, frowning. “They have names?” Buppig practically shouts. “Yes.” “And they spoke
