It is the Rabbi

Something feels forthcoming when she woke up that Sunday.

Jouri woke up on the boat. The last thing I remembered is the people inside the car saying that a German woman who promised us shelter did not help us in the end. She is a head of an orphanage, but she was under surveillance. Promises really, are meant to be broken, because we are just humans who lie every time.

She didn’t allow them in the orphanage. So, we travelled all the way to the dock, wishing we would not run out of gas.

From afar, I can see smoke coming out of that high metal structure. It smelled like burning flesh. The odour reached even this far.

How dare you people. May you all rot in hell. Forever. I will never forget you all for what you have done to my family.

Where did God go in these trying times?

Jouri's memory is in chaos, disarranged, and unable to distinguish fantasy from reality. Topsy-turvy recollections.

She lied in her small cot, hugging an embroidered blanket he gave her, tears falling in her cheeks.
